I heard a Texan USA made guitar, and the sound and finish blew me away, so did the price tag. I had heard great things about the Masterbilt, so I decided to get one through zZounds. At a great cost under a grand, this guitar arrived quickly. So I tuned her up and I was stunned at the amazing sound of this finely crafted guitar. Very rich low end, perfect mids, and just the right amount of sparkling highs. The finish is a satin/ Gloss that looks perfect. I did file the saddle a tiny bit, and adjusted the neck, restrung with elxier strings.... and I absolutely love it. Plays great, sounds better than any Gibson J45 I've played... This is a keeper guitar that rocks. The electronics sound great through my studio p.a system. This is the best sounding slope shoulder guitar I have ever heard!! I was a bit leary being a high end Martin and Gibson guy, but I'm not anymore. I WILL hit the stage with this one, Yes its that good!! Go try one, you'll see.

I got my first guitar in 1966, since then I have had over 50 guitars of all types. My number 1 is my fathers 1943 martin 00021. Out of all, this Epiphone is in the top, I have guitars that play better but this one is easily as nice sounding, looking and playing as ones that cost 5x as much. I now take it jigging and is my go to guitar for anywhere out side my home. I will buy the others in the masterbuilt series next.

"Epiphone Masterbilt Texan antique natural aged gloss."

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars

First impressions: Plays effortlessly, intonation very good, fit, finish and construction - including fretworlk - seemingly flawless, beautiful instrument with seemingly fine materials.Sound: Very good! Very special Voice, but I was hoping that, and expecting it to be so. Delicate top end, bass has yet to develop to its full potential, but shows promise for a brand-new instrument. And then the dry, but very musically pleasing Epi Texan midrange. Very vintage sounding dread.Action almost too low, will tweak truss rod across the next few days. Not giving top Marks all across the board, only because some tweaking night be required to make the High e ring out as Louis and true as the other strings but, even so: So far my expectations are fulfilled, indeed surpassed. This is a finely crafted instrument for not a lot of money.Fretboard is very dark, which was a nice surprise. Internal cabinetwork looks nice and clean, braces have been tuned by the looks of it. Finish is very elegant and gives off a vintage vibe. I’m Impressed.

I had been looking for a gigging guitar to replace my 1943 Martin that has become to valuable to drag out to clubs. I always loved the sound of the Texan on Beatles albums so thought i would try it. Perfect set up out of the box, onboard electronics work perfectly. I am buying a second to keep my son off of mine.

This is a great guitar. It will allow you to adventurous with your playing and grow as a picker. The craftsmanship is very good. The sound is amazing. Bright highs, deep lows, and clear mids. Prefect guitar for fingerpicking and strumming. Perfect for all types of musical genres. Being a Beatles/McCartney fan put this guitar on my radar, playing it made me love it as a musician. zZounds made the buying process easy with 12 month financing and the shipping was fast with accurate updates.

I am delighted with this instrument's sound quality. While I haven't tried the pickup, recording with a condenser mic into a Tascam 16-track recorder on my kitchen table sounds like the recording was made at Abbey Road. Stretch the strings, tune her up, and you are ready to rock. zZounds makes it easy to afford to purchase high-quality instruments. I wish they had a Gibson EJ 360e in stock and that they sold violins. I would order them straightaway.

Just received this instrument yesterday and am already loving it. I got the faded cherry burst, looks fantastic sounds even better. Top quality wood and workmanship. Tried a Texan a few years ago, standard production and it was horrible but this Masterbuilt, made in Indonesia, is superb. Haven't plugged it in yet but came with a feedback suppressor, nice touch. If you have been thinking about one of these but we're wary of the price let me tell you it's worth every penny and more. Take the plunge, you won't be sorry!

Out of the box the looks and appearance was fantastic. She is beautiful. At first tune the disappointment set in extremely cheap tuning keys actually worst I’ve ever felt. First strum more disappointed it sounds like a cheap plywood guitar. Actually I’ve owned an inexpensive Epiphone hummingbird that sounds the same The action absolutely terrible if I picked this up in a store I would have quickly put it down. But because I ordered it I had to give it a fair shot. Now I took a chance on this because I actually have 2 Epiphones in my collection that are unbelievable. A master built 500 and a Gibson inspired j45 both seriously impressive out of the box. The Texan not so much but I put it in rotation alternating between my j45 my Taylor 416 my Gibson j45 and Martin d18. I wanted to like this guitar so bad I had to do something. So I dropped the action put polyweb elixirs on did a trus rod adjustment and it’s playing extremely well. Sound has greatly improved but still has remanence of a cheep plywood guitar. But for its price it is cheap you get what you pay for. With that said play a Taylor or a Martin in this price point and this guitar will shine. Actually any American made guitars under 2k are worse so for it’s price it holds it’s own. Would I buy it again absolutely not. Will it stay in my collection maybe. It records well very distinct notes and ring add flavor without the nasty twang of a Martin. Bottom line it’s ok with work. If you can do the set up no extra expense but if not 75-200 for a good Luther to get it right is a must. My honest recommendation buy the Gibson inspired j45 it’s far superior. But we all like something different.

"NOT MY FAVORITE"

Sounds like some of you got one of the good ones. Not so for myself. Overview & Final Score: 7. Sound: Un-Plugged - 9, Plugged in , a real disappointment - 4, why? I own over 70 guitars of all makes and grades. I read a hugh number of reviews on the Sonitone pre-amp system, and price of the unit. A major selling point for me. A major disappointment, major. I have worked in a number of studios in my time and traveled all over this country playing music for over 40 years. I tried this system through 6 different amps and a ton of adjustments to get a good return. As for punch, every amp had to be pushed 75% volume to hear the amp over the natural guitar. Sitting 4 feet in front of the amp. NO, it was not the batteries. No matter the EQ , the sound was thin, cheap. Played natural, fantastic, so best results was to mic the guitar. Even tried a variety of strings. Very little help. Play-ability: 9, a pleasure to work anywhere on the neck. Attenuation at the 12th fret = fantastic -true/ spot-on. Finish & Construction: 10, Vintage Cherry. Beautiful. Value: 7.0 . Vintage Cherry =$799.00 average with no case. If this unit did not play so well natural, I would have already sold it. Because I was really looking forward to a great sounding electric/acoustic, and after I heard the voice playing un-plugged, could not wait to hear it thru good quality acoustic amps. And there came the let-down. Maybe I just the lemon. If i sell it, i don't want to sell it to a friend, that might be the end of that friendship.
