Epiphone LP PlusTop ProFX Customer Review

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Sound
the sound of this guitar is very meaty and straight forward. i was impressed from the first time i plugged it in. i was looking for a les paul sound and i got it! i know that many players may think that there is no way it sounds like a les paul but i spent the good part of the day switching from a "real" les paul to the epiphone. this guitar really screams! i really love the neck pick-up,so sweet and thick.
Features
when i was looking for another guitar i was not really interested in one with a tremelo but after playing it i was sold. another feature is the push pull pots which i was sold on immediately! the color, fit and finish were very nice. the top is beautiful..i got the honey burst. this guitar is built very well compared to other epiphones i have played and owned.
Ease of Use
it was a little tough getting used to...my main guitar is an ibanez rg550. the volume knobs are tough to get to because of the floyd rose but i'm getting used to it. be sure to use the tone controls..most guitars you don't get much range but this one really does. again coming from the slim taper neck of the ibanez this 60's style neck is really comfortable.
Quality
fit and finish seem very applaudable..this is what sold me. the honeyburst is just stunning with the flame top. so far this guitar has held up well and has become my main axe. i am very light on my equiptment so i'm hoping this will hold up just fine,it's very sturdy.
Value
this guitar is an outstanding value compared to it's american made version. like i said i played many "real" gibson les pauls that day and this one came out on top.
The Wow Factor
just play it...you'll want it...

"great sounding guitar!"

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I got this one in place of my Ibanez sa 260. The Epiphone sounds a lot bigger and better but it is a bit harder to play. I will buy a strat in the near future but this is a keaper and i will play gigs whit it. If it was stolen, i maybe would buy another one or try out different stuff just to compare.
Sound
Great sounding guitar. Suitable for just about anything. The pickups sound really great and just what you expect from a les paul, it has a really nice warm tone. Not a ten because the single-coil split function isn't sounding to a real single coil, but hey who buys a les paul to play fender clean stuff ?
Features
It has a mahagony body and neck (set), rosewood fingerboard that is nicely fretted. The floyd rose special stays in tune really great and my opinion is that it is a very good tremolo. The grover tuners are fantastic and really smooth/accurate. Mine has a great herritage sunburst finish and the neck supposed to be a fast one and it is a pretty comfortable neck but don't expect an Ibanez neck or something. The finish on the neck is red but not sticky like the body so it is pretty comfotable.
Ease of Use
just plug it in and crank it up! This guitar sounds awesome and you will not break your neck because of it's weight. I got mine Mark Knopfler les paul sound in no time and for sure Slash is easy to find as well.
Quality
My neck is a bit angled to the left (looking from the headstock down), however this is not a problem and i don't know if it suposed to. The guitar is certainly gig worthy but bring a back-up because if you break a string, the floyd goes out of tune. The grover tuners are great but i'm not so sure how long the pot meters will last. Anyway, it looks and feels great.
Value
It has a great value. It is really a les paul standard with a floyd rose and some hotter pickups. It is build with shredders in mind but belief me i'm not a shredder and i love this thing.
Manufacturer Support
didn't needed so far.
The Wow Factor
The guitar is practical and it looks freaking awesome ! if you see one, you want one because a floyd rose on a les paul.... really great! the finishes are fantastic, just try one out

I will probablykeep it for a long time, even if for just a conversation piece
Sound
since it's been a long time since i had a paul or a strat, been playing full bodied 6and string acouustics. I am finding hard on both ends of this guitar, I just had to have it,dont like the color though it's dessert burst, wish they made black or white. The coil taps are neat though and I am playing through a new vox valvetronics 40, so there are so many sounds of all types available. All I can say is to try it out at zzounds and if it is comfortable for you, the neck is a little strange too and of course you have the floyd rose. if you have the time and paitence give it a try. It is a heavy thing,it's no featherwieght cheap strat copy.almost sent it back, but my girl told that i'd just have practice with it.l so I am keeping it for now.
Features
came with straplocks, I haven;t took em out of the plastic bag yet
Ease of Use
like I said I need to work with it.if you.ve been sraying on a paul type I suggest you try it out, and you go from there
Quality
you could probably use this for anywhere or anything, see if the poots hold up
Value
very sturdy for the bucks, just try it out
Manufacturer Support
have never used or needed it as yet
The Wow Factor
I wanted it ,but that's me always wanted a paul with tremolo, and have had good exp with floyd rose in the past

"Absolutely beatiful!!!"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars

I gave it a 9 for overall because I love everything about it from its appearance, playabililty, quality, sex appeal, and color. It lost one point because of the pick ups. I still gave it a 9 because I know that the pick ups are no big deal as I can easily change them out to better ones.
Sound
Though extremely beautiful and I love it to death, I'm alittle disappointed with the sound. It's very muddy and does not sound full like a regular Gibson pick up. The clean is not very clean...I'd have to increase my treble and presence to sound brighter like my Gibson LP's. It does justice in overdrive but definitely not something I'm planning to keep as the main sound in my guitar. In low gain (crunch mode), it doesn't sound full and meaty...rather it sounds kinda cheap and buzzy. I do alot of recording and stage performance so I'm particularily picky about how it should sound...and this epiphone pick up cannot live up to the Gibson standard. However, the upside to this is, it's cheaper sound seems to work nicely for some of my other tunes that my Gibson models seem to lack. I gave a 6 because it's overall sound just not do justice for me. I want pure power, fat, and meaty sound. Oh and did I mention...when I tried playing "Sweet Child O Mine" using the neck pickup it really lacks the bite and aggressive attach that I can achieve on my Gibson LP standards. In fact, it sounds kinda digital.
Features
I gave this a 10 because it has everything I've been looking for in an LP with a floyd rose. I especially love the pull-up toggle switches for both the bridge and neck pick ups. Other guitarists may not find any use for it but I do very much. I can go from Rush, Van Halen, Ozzy, to CCR, The Eagles, to country and blues..so the switch really works well for me. I love it when it can reduce the fatness of the sound to something alittle thinner to mimic that sigle coil-like fender sound, and it really works well when I want to through in some cool blues or really need to soften up the rhythm section without needing to re-adjust my amp. The accessories are ok and I don't really care much for Epiphones strap locks. To me, it's kinda cheesy. I like the regular "quick lock" better. The best part is, this thing stays in tune like you would not believe. I can dive it to the max and come right back up to zero (staying in complete tune). Great job, Epiphone.
Ease of Use
Just like any double locking tremelo system...if you've never dealt with one before, you're going to stress alittle bit. But I'm an experience Floyd Rose locking system user, so this is simple for me to make adjustments, etc. It took me no time to set it up. Oh yeah, you'll need to make some neck and action adjustments right out of the box. It's not really set up. Have someone who knows what they're doing set it up for you...then this thing will turn into a high quality axe that will usually cost well over $1500 or more. Great value.
Quality
Craftmanship is excellent. Beautifully built...I can't believe it's an epiphone. This is my first Epiphone and thought I was going to be disappointed but I'm totally happy with it. The truth is, I actually like playing it better than my Gibsons...sorry Gibson, you're just too much for me at times...so I've found a substitution. Thanks Epiphone. This product is a quality built item. I love it...and I can't believe it only costs 1/5 of the Gibson Axxess. Whooohoo!!! By the way, I got the Desert Burst... the pictures that every uses doesn't even compare to its real colors. All the pix on the web shows the desert burst of this guitar to look flat, dark, and ugly...and I wasn't sure about this color at first, and was going to change it...but I'm glad I didn't. Its color and finish is beautiful. I'm glad I chose this color.
Value
This guitar is worth every penny. I'm really glad the price is so super friendly that I can actually own it at a moment noticed. Normally, I'd have to spend a year or so saving up for it. Great guitar, great quality, and it's super highly polished. It's now my favorite axe for everything.
Manufacturer Support
Can't comment much on this because I haven't had any issues. But I must say that Zzound is very fast in processing my order. Good packaging and my beast remained unharmed. Thanks.
The Wow Factor
Beautiful. Can't put it down. As soon I as place it on the stand and walk away..I'd turn back to look at it and end up coming back to pick it up. The color is gorgious. The pix on the web doesn't even capture its true beauty and colors.

"Epiphone - You hit the Bulls eye with this one. Exactly what I was looking for. Now I can leave my Van Halen Strat at home and"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I think this guitar will serve me very well for years to come. If someone stole it I would buy another just like it....and the person that stole it? Once I found them they would regret it only once....and that would be continuously.
Sound
These pickups are not quite as hot as I like but they do have their own nice character and you can really hear the wood in the guitar. The single coils while not like a strat come in handy on the jingly jangly stuff.
Features
Nice finish, nice Mahogany weight to it. It is a real Les Paul. Not chambered out like the studio models. The finish is absolutely beautiful! The FLOYD ROSE and COIL TAP HUMBUCKERS are exactly what you need if you are in a cover band and play a wide variety of music.
Ease of Use
Finally a LES PAUL that stays in tune, dive bombs like a super strat, sounds like a Les Paul and Jangles like a Strat when needed. This guitar gets a lot of great tones. Beware - The setup from the factory was HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. But after a You Tube Video on Kahler Set Ups from Mr. Kahler himself...this guitar ROCKS. The action is just like my 1970s Les Paul.
Quality
With the exception of the volume pots feeling "cheap".....everything else gets a 10. The volume pots work fine but I don't see them lasting 40 years like the ones on my original Gibson Les Paul.
Value
For the money this thing is worth every penny. I would not want to drag a vintage Gibson or a new $2500 Gibson Les Paul around the club circuit. This allows me the features of a LES PAUL without breaking the bank or being afraid of getting a vintage guitar stolen or damaged on the road.
Manufacturer Support
Have not had to deal with them yet.
The Wow Factor
This has great appeal. The desert burst finish is beautiful. With the Floyd Rose and coil tap pickups it can do the job of several types of guitars. This is a great guitar for the working musician....and you do not have to make any sacrifices in playability, price tag, quality.
