Okay so I buy Epiphones instead of Gibsons (usually) because I like hotrod guitars. Yes, I can afford Gibson but tearing apart a $3,000 guitar just seems wrong. So I usually gut Epis and swap stuff around until I’m happy (think 50s wiring with Super Distortion humbuckers). After reading up on giving Probuckers a chance I decided, what the heck, I’ll buy one and tweak my amp settings and see what happens. Well, I feel I owe an apology to Epiphone, this guitar has excellent electronics “as is” if looking for a PAF sound. Also the fit and finish (as with most of these Inspired By) is exceptional. Given the price point, the quality and these gorgeous tops and finishes, I wonder if Gibson isn’t canibalising their own line. The danged thing was nearly in tune out of the box. Needs an intonation job (obviously).
Sound
I’d put the fit and finish at least on par with Gibson. Unlike Gibson, the hardware is a little different, pickups a little different. I said “different” not worse or better. The differences are extremely subtle.
Features
It’s a Les Paul. It does Les Paul very, very well.
Ease of Use
Good amp? Setup, tune, plug, go.
Quality
Extremely well made. Excellent QA. Expect a minor setup (as with every new guitar).
Value
Probably a best buy, more value than you should expect for the price.
Manufacturer Support
Never dealt with Epiphone.
The Wow Factor
It is beautiful to look at.

Mine came with Wilkeson (korea) tuners, I had a set of grovers handy so I went ahead and switched em. No biggie. I ordered a case as well, and thankfully, the guitar was placed in the case for shipping, awesome. Epiphone continues to supply us with top notch craftsmamship, I would love to have a beer with the builders over there. And the top is stunning. Assembly was off a bit, sloppy bridge and pickup (neck) positions, again, no biggie I am used to setting these up upon arrival. One thing I notice upon pulling her out, is how flat and straight the neck is already, and it sounded really good all the way up. I did my work, polished the frets, oiled the board, added the Grovers, adjusted the bridge height, and tuned up a set if my hybrid slinkys. Ok so that is all I had done, she was ready ti be fine tuned to perfect intonation, as I said, she already was sounding real good all the way up, and then it happened, I went to check and somehow, someway, some chance of planet alignment and all good karma coming forth, without a Nashville inspection or set up, this guitar arrived to me, took my quick set up, and gave me pitch, each string was already intonated, how this is even possible is beyond me, I cam only say this, for this to happen, I'm this manner is a unexplainable occurrence that can at the very least assure you, these guitars are built right. Get one now do not wait. Shipping- great that they placed it in the case, however with no 'directions sticker the carrier brought mine upside down, was very nervous at what I might find once I saw that, thankfully all is well. Tuners- wilkeson is not grover, all my epis have come with grover unexpected change, luckily I had a set as the wilkeson did not feel good.Assembly- I get that these are on a rather quick line, but a bridge that's 10+mm in difference from high to low is just lazy, same with pickup. However, the fact that it came , took my changes, and was intonation miraculously, Exceeds any and all expectations, I love this guitar, I love epiphone, and I love zZounds. Get on those shipping labels though fragile and this end up are a pleasure to see on our packages.

Nice guitar and the electronics are fairly decent for the price. I was pleasantly surprised to find a full maple cap on the body, I assumed it was veneer. The cap is as thick as a Gibson! The neck and fretwork were both very nice, no twists or sharp edges. Fit and finish rival Gibson. The pups are what you'd expect on a guitar at this price point. The instrument arrived on time and was well packed. The guitar was still in tune when I unboxed it! The only discrepancy was the tuning machines. Grover 18:1 tuners are listed in the description. My guitar arrived with Wikinson tuning machines. I contacted zZounds about it and they responded quickly. I'll spare you the details, but zZounds worked quickly to make it right. As this was my first purchase from zZounds, I didn't know what to expect. Their fast service and commitment to customer satisfaction is impressive. I will do more business in the future. Very pleased with the guitar and the customer service.

I like it. It has better pickups than the ec256 i own. Fit and finish is good. Setup out of the box not bad it plays nice. Wish it had the grover tuners but it has wilkinson tuners. They aren't too bad though i'll know more about how well they hold up when the strings are broke in. Strings are dirty i played for a half hour and my hands were filthy. Lol the biggest downside to this guitar is the cheap knobs. They are a very cheap light plastic and one had come off during shipping lukily it was so cheap that it didn't scratch up the guitar. Lol i popped it back on and was good to go.. other than that i really like the guitar. I'll probably never be able to afford a gibson, but this guitar is quite the rocker. I would have paid another 25 bucks for some decent quality knobs though.

I will have to say, I am floored by the quality, looks, and sound of this guitar! I would say it’s right there with Gibson, but way cheaper on the price, don’t let the price fool you, and don’t let your pride stop you! This is a BadA!! Guitar, the finish is out of this world, as well as the sound!

I ordered this guitar it came with a crack from the nut about 1” into the neck also the 18th fret had a nick and scratch also it had glue on the fret board from the binding .Also the Epiphone case also had issues binding was not complete wrinkle in 2 spots of the vinyl .zZounds came thru sent a new case with no issues and overnighted a new guitar with no issues. Although it was a Epiphone Quality Controll problem zZounds customer service came thru fast and courteous service .I would recommend buying from them great company

I received mine yesterday and I am thoroughly impressed in all regards. This is the best looking guitar I have owned, and plays like a dream. Much nicer than my American Fender Strat in every way. I was afraid that the pictures were misleading but not the case here. The figured maple top glows. Frets and intonation are spot-on, and I see zero flaws in the fit and finish. I’ve played Gibsons and can say that this guitar is very bit as good at a fraction of the cost.

Compared side by side with Gibson same equipment etc. Gibson definitely should up their game! Much bigger sound and better playability with Epiphone! Sent the Gibson back! The AAA top is outstanding. Gotta spend $3000-$10,000 w Gibson to get even close to this. 498 ,490 pickups are very over rated just like Gibson! Sound thin, hollow like they are missing something..
