I purchased a new re-issue Gibson TV Yellow Special, some years ago for over 3x the price of this Epi Les Paul P90 Special, and it wasn’t at all, what it was cracked up to be! I sold her some time later and bought a used Hamer Special, which was spectacular guitar. Unfortunately, I sold it on impulse at the time, abd did regret it. This Epiphone TV Yellow Les Paul Special, exceeded all my expectations, and I find it hard to put this guitar down! The feel, the finish, the pick-ups and especially the fat beefy tone that responds to your own unique playing style, and cleans up nicely when you lower your volume control. Highly recommended, abd the price is right! Get one while you can!

I purchased this guitar from zZounds in Dec 2021. I am an avowed guitar snob, owning several Gibsons (including an ES330 with P90s), several Fenders, pre-Fender Guilds, etc. I got a hankering for a TV Yellow Les Paul and didn't feel like paying 1500K or more for what is essentially a painted slab of mahogany. I read the reviews on this Epi and pulled the trigger, figuring it would be a good guitar to mod with new pickups etc. I am so impressed with this guitar. It looks fantastic, sounds great, feels great, and is so much fun to play. This guitar can do jazz, AC/DC, and pretty much everything in between. I'm not even sure I'm going to mod it because I'm so satisfied with it. The quality for the price is out of this world. I pulled it out of the box, tuned it up, and to my amazement the intonation was perfect almost all the way up the neck, at least to 17th feet and who needs to play chords higher up than that? The P90s sound great. Are they as good as Gibson? Well, I can't tell the difference from my ES330 P90s. And the 330 was about 2K more expensive. I am so happy with this guitar and can't put it down. Highly recommended if you're into this color and vibe. A word about zZounds. I placed the order on a Sunday and they delivered it less than 48 hours later, by mid day Tuesday and shipping was free. Don't know how it's possible to get what is essentially less than 2 business day shipping for free. Kudos to everyone at zZounds. You are knocking it out of the park!

I'm absolutely in love with this instrument. From the moment I removed it from the box I knew I had something special I mean it was still in tune after 1200 miles on the road. The neck felt perfect I loved the weight and the strings rang out just like church bells. Then I plugged it into an early sixties Supro "Super" and had a religious experience the tone is to die for and this caused an explosive output of new material to flow effortlessly from my fingertips. I've owned several guitars with P-90's and I've always been kind of partial to them but none have ever pleased my ears as much as this beautifully crafted Les Paul. Everything about this guitar is just right for me I've found my new "Number One". This guitar will definitely go toe to toe with it's more exorbitantly priced Gibson counterpart.

I've been playing 52yrs. Played everywhere from bars to Stadiums. I spent 16yrs with Gibson Guitars, where I became friends with Les Paul. I've always had an affinity for LP's...especially those with P90's (Jr's and Specials). Last year after reading all the great reviews, I ordered an Epiphone LP Special TV for $399. Within an hour of opening the box, I had clipped the strings off, did a light buff on the frets, conditioned the fretboard and loosened the truss slightly. She's every bit of a Gibson '56. (I owned a '56 TV Jr). I planned on installing Grovers, but stock tuners are rock solid. The P90's are every bit as good as Gibsons. I am going to put Bumblebee caps in it (I have a couple laying around). I truly love this axe...the best $399 I ever spent! (Aside from the $225 I spent on a Gibson 59 Jr at a Pawn Shop in Cedar Rapids Iowa ...but that was 1976 and another story.

Got my Epiphone Les Paul Special and can't put it down. Plays great, right out of the box. Ten years ago, I bought the Gibson version for $1500, I loved it but, due to unforeseen circumstances had to sell it. This guitar is every bit as good for a fraction of the price.

Trust me guys, I really wanted the Gibson version, mostly for the nicer and more transparent nitro finish.... BUT.... i couldn't justify paying 1800 bucks for the Gibson when Epiphone has this version for sub-500. I'm glad I pulled the trigger on this Epiphone LP Special. Like others have said, this isn't just a great bang for the buck guitar, it's a GREAT guitar. The only mod I have done so far was replacing the lightning bar wraparound bridge with an adjustable Pigtail wraparound bridge - more of a preference than a necessity. Pros: nice weight - i like heavy guitars, and this has enough heft to it. Heavier than my SG but lighter than my LP Traditional. Pickups - these P90's sound really good! I thought I would want to replace them right away, but I'm gonna stick with these for awhile. Neck - chunky as described but still comfortable. Tuners- they feel really nice and have stayed in tune really well so far - maybe better than my Gibsons at times. TV Yellow finish - it actually looks really nice in person. Yeah it's a thick poly finish, not as nice as the Gibson nitro finishes, but it's fine. Cons - a few minor quirks in the paint job around the pickups and neck, some fret ends were a little sharp, fretboard was dry as a bone and the frets felt rough, so I oiled the fretboard and took some steel wool to the frets and all was well again. Normal stuff like that, but just letting you know what this guitar was like out of the box. Miscellaneous - since this doesn't come with a case, I got an SKB hardshell case - the 1SKB-56, which fits this guitar nice and snug.

I’m a hard-core Epiphone player/ fan/owner ad this makes the 4th Epi I now own and love to death! These P90’s are like mana from heaven to hear, they give me the sound I’ve been wanting for 54 years! Buttery sweet and smooth or screaming mad, whatever I want this little Epi gives it to me. My Epiphone Dot gives me the humbucker I want and need! I’m going to trade my Scheter Demon 6 for another Epi; haven’t decided on which one yet but it’ll be an Epiphone! I also have an Epiphone Masterbuilt AJ500 acoustic. Might go for another Epi acoustic, haven’t decided yet. Back to this new Epi I proudly own: Love at first sight and heard, I can’t put it down! It came ready to play, set-up perfect as was the physical condition. Once again Epiphone knocked the ball out of the park!BUY THIS GUITAR!!!

Got this for the P90s they rock. Took this to a friend who's a Luthier. He was impressed just had to adjust the action a little. He said it is a very sturdy neck and well built. He also setup my Epi LP 1960s and was impressed. He said that Epiphones are really good now. He has Gibsons. But said the newer Gibsons have lost some quality. I have small hands but have no problems w/the P90 neck. I'm very happy w/this guitar.

I love this thing! The neck is very comfortable for me and I wear a 2xxl glove. I could handle a bigger neck but this is by far way more comfortable than my Les Paul with the slim taper neck. I like the mustard color, I don't really want a bright yellow but be aware for whatever reason it does look more yellow in pics and video than in person. Sounds great, the P90s will bark but clean up nicely too. Set up was pretty decent out of the box, just had to drop the bridge a little to get it where I wanted it. Finish appears very good, no sharp or high frets. It's a great guitar and at $450 pretty hard to pass up if you're in the market. I ordered it at 4:59 pm eastern Wednesday and had it by Thursday afternoon with the standard free shipping! Depending on how close the wearhouse is to you that may vary. So far I'm a very happy customer.

I went 25 years of guitar playing with never owning a P90 equipped one. Decided for $400 this was worth a shot. It is my go to guitar now. If you'd told me even 6 months ago an Epiphone would be my number one I'd have said you were crazy. This guitar feels great, sounds great, and suits my style perfectly. You can cover a lot of ground with this guitar. The neck pickup is nice and clear and the bridge has great growl and bite. With them doing the 50's wiring you can dial in a lot of range on the bridge pickup without any loss of clarity. The setup was fine but they don't do a great job cleaning them up at the factory. Definitely change the strings and clean and oil the fretboard right away, my fingers were black for a couple days after just a few minutes playing it out of the box. But after that it's been 100% perfect.

My LP special arrived a few days after shipping, and was set up fairly well out of the box. Extremely comfortable neck with a perfect amount of chunk. P90s growl with authority. Very smooth fretwork especially at 399$. Epiphone stepped it up big time with these. I would've have no problem paying 500$ for this. It's worth it.

That a guitar basically “off the shelf” could be this impressive. I was fortunate enough earlier in my career to have an endorsement deal with Epiphone, and one of the major benefits (b/s free guitars) was the fact they went thru the G custom shop b4 delivery. Had to make adjustments here & there but always extremely happy w/results. These new “inspired by Gibson” models are already superior to those! The only problem I see is Gibson’s - seems Henry might’ve screwed himself in a bad for him good for us kind of way - why spend up to 15-2500.00 more for a name? Get one while you can!

Before I begin I want to shout out zZounds for being a great place to do business. They have never disappointed after years of being a customer. Thanks and i hope this comprehensive review helps people. I will try to be as objective as possible.EPIPHONE LES PAUL SPECIAL TV YELLOW Had this guitar for over two weeks now. Shipped from zZounds without incident and well packaged by epiphone. No major modifications were needed to get the guitar into a playable state. MAJOR ProsGood feel to the fretboard, I like the thicker neck, the scale of a guitar makes it easier to play for me. I found the action and overall playability from a fretting standpoint to be very good.P90 pickups in my opinion have a very good sound and the potentiometers from CTS do make a big difference. From a tonal standpoint this guitar does sound very good.I don't mind the color I found the finish and overall appearance of the guitar to be quite good for the money it's also quite light compared to some other Epiphone models or Fender Squier models.MAJOR CONSThe wraparound Bridge right out of the box had some issues in production. It clearly had not been properly seated into the body as there was wood residue around the holes where the studs are. The wraparound bridge is of poor quality and is actually leaning a little too far towards the headstock probably contributing to the tuning issues. This is a major issue for me because a replacement wrap around bridge is not cheap relative to the cost of the guitar. However it is a alteration I may be forced to make as the studs as stated earlier never seem to be seated properly so I may have to end up replacing the studs and wraparound Bridge with a better option. They could have charged $50 more and put a better bridge on in my opinion. There seems to be an issue with the nun of this guitar. I was getting the Hallmark ping sound from the G string which just so happened to be the string that always comes out of tune sometimes going flat after Bends..another times going sharp indicating it may be not slotted right. I think this is a major disappointment to advertise that you have a tusq or graph Tech nut and it not be slotted properly. The tuners seem to be okay but they're not the best they may be also adding to the tuning issue. I've heard on this website of another buyer who had problems with his g-string staying in tune. This is a major downfall of this guitar in my opinion because it sounds so good--but get into a rhythm--and get into a song and then all the sudden you go from hitting a Bend to playing a chord and it just sounds terrible because your strings are going out of tune. Especially frustrating as a player who's played professionally and for 20 years and I know I'm changing my strength properly I'm lubricating the points of contact including the nut I make sure to lock and stretch my strings and still no luck. But that's the thing with the guitar like this at 449 it sounds great but there are some compromises.Overall I give this guitar a 7 despite the tuning issues and the poor quality of the wrap around Bridge the electronics and the sound of the pickups in the overall playability of guitar are impressive to me and I probably will go ahead and make the investment to upgrade the wraparound bridge and replace the nut possibly even the tuners if need be. However I think from the factory there needs to be a better quality control in terms of installing the bridge and slotting and installing the nuts. So the Saving Grace for this guitar is it's playability and it's overall sound it adds to its Great Value but be prepared to have some possible tuning issues. Overall I think epiphone is very solid company, but there's a big difference between an epiphone that costs 400 to $450 and an epiphone that costs $650 to $750. Because I've owned the whole gamut of their price range.
Value
This guitar is definitely worth its price compared to other guitars in this price range at this price range you're going to run into tuning issues and some quality control things but the sound and the pickups in the electronics make up for that
Manufacturer Support
I've dealt briefly with epiphone to see if I could get some replacement parts they were someone helpful but I haven't had any major issues where I really had to reach out to them. I will say that I wish they had more on their website in terms of replacement Hardware
The Wow Factor
Epiphone is appealing to me and has always been appealing to me as a subsidiary of Gibson.. I think they by far make a better product than Fenders subsidiary Squire. I think the appeal is that their guitars are getting better for the money however there are some compromises I still think overall the sound of the guitar is close enough if you blindfolded some music fans they may not noticed the difference between the Gibson Les Paul special and the Epiphone

I thought I might have to modify and swap out pickups etc. NOPE! Epiphone really nailed the P-90s in this thing. Great playing and sounding guitar. Neck is bit meaty but I like it. I have a lot of guitars and been playing a lot of years. This adds another “voice” between strats and Les Paul’s with humbuckers.

For a P90 Lep Paul Special, this one is not to be missed. Sounds great. Changed out the tuners with Hiptshot Closed Locking Tuners (nothing wrong with them, added some more tuning stability to an already great guitar), switched to EB Beefy Slinkies, and added Dunlop Straplok's. Will probably take the neck finish down (hand sticks when I'm playing, should not be an issue with others), but overall, there's nothing else I would change with this at all. Great workmanship at nearly HALF THE PRICE of it's Gibson equivalent. And zZounds was the ONLY ONLINE RETAILER THAT HAD THIS MODEL IN STOCK (Even over Epi's own website!)

"A Keeper, in spite of some quality issues"

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars

I have had this guitar for about a month now, and have played it regularly. I love the P90s, they sound fantastic, with lots of character. The tuners are so-so, on mine the G-string is coming down ever so slightly after bendings. There also are some issues with the fretwork, as previous reviewers have mentioned. And the color... I am no specialist for vintage guitar colors, but I expected the guitar to come in a kind of brigth yellow, but it is more between yellow/olive/very light brownish. Also, the color is very thick, there is no woodgrain. That being said, the guitar plays nicely overall. Great sustain. I also like the fat neck. It came set up OK out of the box, with some minor adjustments to reduce said fret buzz required. It records really well. I may have to replace the tuners in the future. For $399, all things considered, it is still a great value. This is a serious guitar with great playability and tone!

BLUF: fun guitar to make noise with; good guitars have gotten much cheaper as of 2021, no need to spend more money unless you want something specific.Everything following is relative to the price of this guitar.I previously had a double cut away Epiphone LP special from the 90s that slipped away from me (i.e., I gave it to a friend). It was my first electric and I sort of disregarded it because of that. Recently, I reflected on how it was actually a pretty good electric guitar, so I endeavored to replace it with this current model. They are essentially completely different guitars, so the comparison is largely useless. The old model had great fingerboard wood, as most pre-2005-2010 guitars do.. rosewood was simply in more abundant supply back then. And the fit and finish of the guitar was a little better, specifically the fret finishing.Otherwise, this current model is, I feel, a much more useful guitar. The previous neck was tapered, whereas this is nice and full, which improves playability for me. The previous pickups were anemic, whereas these are more aggressive. I'm sure there are better P-90s in the world, but without a comparison available, I don't feel I'm missing anything. The overall feel of this model is more fun to play. I had to file down some fret edges, polish the frets, and sand the fret board smooth. Following that, I think it's great. I actually haven't even set it up yet, so the action is a little high and the intonation is off a bit; but, the hardware and construction are lined up straight, so I don't see any reason this will be a problem. It has the usual general stupidities of Les Pauls, such as the "rhythm / treble" marker on the pickup switch. Those terms are not opposites, or descriptive of what they do. This has always annoyed me. Just call it "neck / bridge" if you feel the need to put needless words on a guitar. Or, better yet, don't put words on it at all. It's well into the 21st century; we all know the paradigm by now. Additionally, I don't understand why the pick guard (unnecessary to begin with) needs to have 4 screws, all pushed to the edge. It's bad enough you can't removed it without seeing ugly holes; you can't even reshape it. But those are minor personal issues that don't really amount to much. All in all, a fun electric, with potential to fulfill all the essentials for live and studio work.

So I've been watching lots of clips on Youtube about this guitar and I finally decided I had to have one. I loved the nice clean yellow color, like a ray of sunshine. Loved the tone on both neck and bridge pickups. Loved everything about this guitar so I ordered one. When I took it out of the box I was shocked at how brown it really is. Don't expect it to be the same yellow color as in pictures you've seen, it's not. It's more the color of brown mustard, or if you mix brown, olive drab, and just a touch of yellow you'll get the actual color. I decided to return this guitar simply based on the misrepresentation of the color. I took a picture of the guitar so I could post what the real color was. When I looked at the picture I was surprised to see that lovely sunshine yellow come back! That must be what TV Yellow is, I guess. It's kinda dull in real life but comes to life on film. Whatever, it plays and sounds amazing, I'm keeping it! The intonation right out of the box was spot on. The action at the bridge as a little high, but the action at the nut was perfect, which was a pleasant surprise. The neck feels killer! Tuners are pretty good too, no need to change those. The frets could use a micro sanding and polish, but this is one sweet axe! Can't stop playing! Just gotta get past the brown mustard color.

Guitar is built well. Pickups could be a little more versatile depending on the style you play.Bound neck is very nice and a pretty feature to the instrument.Personally why anyone would want a 50's neck on any guitar is beyond me. Slim taper would have really made this a fun guitar to play.
Sound
Overall great guitar. Good looking and bound neck is a nice touch.
Features
I am not a 50's neck guy so the neck is clunky at best to me. The bound neck is a great touch for playing and looks. The P90's are fine if you are not a heavy gain player. But when you to drive the pickups they break up lousy through top high gain gear. This is a classic rock player or for some lower out put style playing.
Ease of Use
Sound is subjective to the player. I recommend pickup replacement if you lean towards a lot of high gain playing.
Quality
Made great no issues at all
Value
For the price range it is in the right place price wise for the build and playability.
Manufacturer Support
I have not dealt with Epi.
The Wow Factor
I rate this as a 4 as it is less than perfect all around.

Every one wants a Gibson, but these guitars $ for $ are the better guitars, I would have killed to had a guitar as good as this for the money when I started , the finish, the fretwork, the sound the electronics are all great, every one I’ve gotten have been great, I’ll take a top of line Epiphone over a lower end Gibson any day of the week!!! Keep it up Epiphone

Musical Background:

Just a VM player

Musical Style:

Epiphone strikes again, Great Guitar for a 1/4 of the price, if your not a professional player why would you pay for a Gibson, I can buy every one of the inspired models for what Id pay for 1 or 2 Gibsons, no disrespect to Gibson I own 2 but ILove guitars and the more the better, and Epiphone lets me do that!!
