Out of the box, my guitar had some high and uneven frets above the 12th fret which needed the action to be set too high for my tastes to be playable. After I got the frets fixed and dropped the action to where I like it, I have an amazing Les Paul for the price! The weight relief makes for a well balanced, extremely resonant instrument with great acoustic sustain, and the probucker pickups are very good once you get them adjusted to taste. They sound great both clean and dirty and I'm not inclined to replace them. Other than the frets, fit and finish is perfect with flawless paint and binding. The Grover locking tuners are great as well, and the wiring system works good and makes for a versatile guitar.

"The Swiss army knife of guitars!"

Been wanting this guitar since it came out, finally pulled the trigger on it. Going to explain each of my ratings line by line. Overall: 4.5/5 only because there was a few extremely very minor build issues that I need to do address which will be talked about later. Took all of 5 minutes to take care of so not a huge deal.Features: 5/5 because like I said in the title, it's the Swiss army knife of guitars. First off you're getting the Les Paul body style which is iconic. Not only are you getting that but you're getting the Modern which is nice because of the compound taper neck, the chambered weight relief, coil splitting, and phase switching. You can get single coil tones which aren't going to sound like a strat but they will definitely make a huge difference compared to regular humbucker tones, the phase switching is nice although it's fun to play with I don't really have a practical use for it but I do enjoy it, I love the heel joint cut away for getting to the higher frets, and the Probucker sound great. I mainly play metal so normally I would go for something a bit hotter but these sound more than fine plus that's what they make a gain knob for on your amp and that's what they make boost pedals for and that's why you can adjust the output level on your EQ pedal so I'm not going to be changing the pickups on this. Absolutely love the features. And let's not forget the factory locking Grovers, total game changer for quick string changes.Quality: 4/5 only for two reasons. One, when utilizing the coil splitting feature for the neck pickup, the knob was pulling off of the potentiometer. Extremely easy fix, spread out the split part of the shaft on the potentiometer and now the knob stays exactly where it's supposed to stay. Other issue was that the nut for the input jack was loose so I had to tighten that up right away but again, very minor. Set up, neck relief, and intonation didn't have to be touched even after pulling off the stock strings and putting my preferred string set on them (Ernie Ball beefy slinkies). Tuning stability is great, and aside from that one issue with that one potentiometer and the loose nut on the input jack, everything is fine so I can't give it a 5 out of 5 but I can definitely give it a 4 out of 5. Manufacturer: 5/5 only because I've owned and continue to own plenty of epiphone's and I have found their product support to be very good if I've bought new guitars that had issues that needed to be addressed by the manufacturer. Never had an issue with product support. Sound: 5/5 Just read back to what I said about overall and features. This thing sounds awesome and even though I play high gain metal and the Probuckers aren't as high output as some of my other guitars with aftermarket pickups, some very minor adjustments to gain and the input level on my EQ pedal was all it took to sound exactly the way I wanted it to sound. Sure, I could pull the stock pickups out of it and throw my preferred set of Seymour Duncan distortions in it but why? These sound just fine with some minor adjustments to my patches/pedals. As far as I'm concerned, having this lower output set gives me more versatility because now I can play stuff that isn't as aggressive if I want to and if I want to get dirty with it, just bump up the output level or the gain and we're good to go. Ease of use: 5/5 because it's a guitar with six strings, two-tone knobs, two volume knobs, coil splitting for each humbucker, phase switch and those features are push-pull. I did have to look up which pots controlled which features but that was like all of 10 seconds of Google searching and I'm pretty sure the literature that came with the instrument from Epiphone probably would have given me the same answer but I didn't even look at that But yeah, dual humbucker six string guitar with individual coil splitting for each pickup and a phase shift option. Easy to use once you know what does what. Value: 5/5 because after tax you're paying a little bit over 800 bucks USD but I truly feel like this guitar is worth way more given the beautiful finish, the way it feels, the fact that I didn't need to do any fret work, neck relief adjustment, intonation, or action adjustments and it plays perfect for me right out of the box. Change the shape of the headstock, throw the Gibson name on it and this would be a $2,500 guitar all day long. Wow factor: 5/5 because a guitar this beautiful, a guitar that feels this nice, a guitar that plays this nice, and a guitar that plays this nice should definitely cost way more than it does. I'm not complaining about it and that's why the wow factor gets a 5 out of five. Definitely blew me away and I own a lot of guitars and plan on owning many more but I think this one is the second guitar out of my whole collection that just blew me away with how nice it is compared to what I paid for it.
Sound
This instrument sounds awesome, it plays awesome, it works great for clean stuff, bluesy stuff, classic rock, '90s rock, modern rock, and if you have a decent amp or an EQ pedal that you can adjust the level on, this thing can do extremely aggressive modern metal all day long with the right amplifier/patch settings.
Features
I really love the heel cut out for access to the higher frets. I'm more of a rhythm guy but I've been dabbling in leads lately so that makes it very easy for me. For the type of metal we play, we do have occasional clean parts and my favorite thing to do with this guitar so far is to put it on the middle toggle switch setting (both pickups) with coil splitting engaged on both pickups and it's probably my ideal clean tone. I didn't even have to adjust my patch on my modeling amp, just put it to that setting and that coil splitting configuration, pure perfection. I can't really think of a practical use right now for the phase switching but I can definitely see myself sitting down with my modeler and having some fun noodling around experimenting with it and finding a use for it but for the time being, it's nice to have the feature but I really don't see myself using it too much.
Ease of Use
Once you figure out which controls split which coils and which one handles the phase switching... It's so user friendly and versatile. Very easy guitar to get comfortable with.
Quality
This instrument appears to be very well made. The only issues I had was that I had to spread apart one of the split pegs on the potentiometer for the neck pickup because when I was pulling it to engage the coil splitting, the knob kept coming off but that was all of a couple seconds of spreading it apart so the knob would stay on. Also I did have to tighten down the nut for the input jack because that was loose right out of the box but I found that to be extremely common with most guitars I purchase so not a huge deal.
Value
In short, I would have paid way more for this guitar than I paid for it. Definitely a true bang for your buck instrument.
Manufacturer Support
I've dealt with Epiphone a couple times with tech support issues/general concerns and they have always been really easy to deal with. There's a reason that I keep buying epiphone's as opposed to stepping up and buying a Gibson. Don't get me wrong, I would love a Gibson and I've played many Gibsons and love them, but I really do love my Epiphone's. I can buy three or four of them for the cost of one Gibson and with a little bit of minor adjustment, I can get them to sound and feel and play just as good if not better.
The Wow Factor
The Modern Epiphone mine really appealed to me. Beautiful finishes, the weight relief, the heel cut out at the neck joint, the coil splitting options? All excellent reasons to purchase this instrument.

First of all, I have extremely high expectations when an import guitar cost $700, so this review is written from a critical viewpoint. I ordered Thursday night and it was in my hands Saturday morning at 11! Great job. Epiphone box packaged inside of a bigger box albeit with no packing material between the two. Guitar arrived unscathed. Epiphone decals and warranty info but no truss rod tool. I was so happy that the pickguard wasn’t installed nor are there holes drilled in this beautiful finish, but it was included in the box. The fret ends are as smooth as silk! I was worried about this as my 2020 Epiphone Explorer felt like a cheese grater. Action was a little high with zero neck relief from the factory. Frets are actually pretty level. I gave it the slightest amount of relief and dropped it to 2/64 on both the low E and high Es. Predictably, it had some buzz up past the 12th fret. I raised it to my standard 4/64 and 3 /64 and there is zero fret buzz. Way to go a Epiphone factory! The Grover locking tuners are great but whoever put the strings on at then factory doesn’t know how to use them properly as they still wrapped them around the post. The electronics all function as they should and have a quality feel to them. They have a full range of motion and not just on/off like some cheaper guitars tend to have. The fit and finish is near perfect. I found just a very slight over spray on the binding on the treble side and a finish imperfect on the side of the nut. Other then those two things, nothing- it’s perfect! The Caribbean Fade is the prettiest did sg I’ve ever seen in person - the wow factor is huge on this guitar.
Sound
Pickups sound great with several different voicing available with the coil taps and phase switch.
Features
Just feels like a top shelf instrument.
Ease of Use
Playability was great out of the box , it is outstanding with a truss rod and bridge tweak.
Quality
Fells extremely well made.
Value
I think it is comparable to other guitars in this price range
Manufacturer Support
No
The Wow Factor
It is absolutely beautiful - the prettiest guitar I’ve owned and I’ve owned over 70 guitars!

"Great sound"
I've been playing this guitar and it's got excellent tone. The songs my band plays requires that I multiple guitars because our goal is to emulate the recordings as close as possible. The options with coil splitting and trebel bleed along with my amp I'm able to get really close to recording sound. The neck fits my hand perfectly. I use this guitar as much as my strat and PRS silver sky. It's a great guitar and fast. I did have to have the action adjusted out of the box. But that's to be expected. The B and G strings had dead notes from fret 12-16. Once the action was fixed it was perfect.

Meets all of my high expectations. Perfect intonation right out of the box. Show stopping looks and a vast palette of sounds. The ProBuckers are super clear allowing for them to sound great with any effects pedals. The weight relieved body adds some real tone. Asymmetrical neck is very easy to play even with my small hands. I am used to the small neck of Telecasters, this neck and fret spacing is perfect to eliminate help mistakes. For the cost of a Gibson Les Paul Modern, you could buy 3 of these. I would recommend this guitar to anyone looking for a Les Paul. Mine is the Caribbean Blue Fade, nothing but complements on the looks and sound. Massive sustain, awesome tone. Very versatile. Totally happy with the purchase.

Super wreaked neck and intonation and uneven not playable string height. Kinda unacceptable considering the price. But I love the guitar I’m thankfully a guitar geek and fixed it myself they also sent me parts that didn’t go to the specific guitar a pickguard with no holes in the body for it, and the bag had already been ripped open and the guitar wasn’t packaged correct it was just in a epiphone box no protector or foam or anything I can only imagine that had something to do with the used stuff in the new guitars box when I revived it in starting to think they sent me a used one. No sticker protectors on the pickups or truss rod cover some odd stuff. I’m just realizing it and it hasn’t been a month yet I got pneumonia so I been very ill, but past few days I was playing around on it and I ordered a Flying V with it also a epiphone and it had the same neck issues but it was properly packaged and had all the inside protectors and sticker clear seal protector on the guitars bridge pickguard and truss rod cover. So I may contact them tomorrow about this just to see what’s up with this, I may see if they can exchange it for another on my pay to play. We will see.

"Not a Gibson Les Paul...for the price though a very nice guitar."
Epiphone Les Paul Modern for under $700 is a beautiful guitar and well worth the price. The only negative I have found so far after a year of owning a playing one is the volume pots are not as precise or easy to use.

Everything you could want in a Les Paul. Beautiful ebony neck, figured full maple cap. Treble bleed circuits are a nice touch for when turning volume down. Phase and coil tap features are nice, however, I probably won’t use these features very much. Constant comments on the Caribbean Blue Fade finish. The additional cut away on the neck at the body eases the reach for the upper registers. The Kalamazoo headstock looks cool and it is not scalfed as are most Les Pauls. Grover locking tuners are icing on the cake. ProBuckers sound awesome. Very solidly built. The weight relieved body adds a nice tone and is easier on your back. This is a lifetime keeper.
