One person whining and crying about his new guitar needing a setup upon arrival does not make this a bad guitar. In fact, this is a GREAT guitar. My $3200 Gibson needed a setup upon arrival, too. (Duh, most new guitars do) This Wino Custom is really a winner for Epiphone. The neck feels a lot like some Gibsons I've played. Bigger than the 60's Slim Taper but smaller than the 50's. The pickups are fantastic, especially the new 98T in the bridge position. Sounds like the Gibson 498T, but a little warmer. The body, neck, fit and finish on mine are just great. If you're in doubt, read any other reviews for this beauty. It gets five stars from both pros and amateurs alike. For only $50 more than a regular LP Custom is a steal. The quality, playability, tone and even a nice hard-shell case make this a no Brainer. Even my snobby guitar tech is impressed. Any Les Paul fan will dig this guitar. I know my friends and I sure do. If you're reading this, you may be considering one, if you're considering one, just get it. You won't regret it.

I have been playing guitar on and off since probably around 1987. Started off with a cheap plastic string acoustic and after being sent to live with my grandparents in Milton Florida my grandfather surprised me with this black Les Paul that I had walked by and looked at in the window of some kind of not music store and I didn't know then it wasn't a real Les Paul and it didn't matter I loved it. Then much later after crazy times of my youth I was told about an Ace Frehley Epiphone Custom Les Paul in a town north of me and that thing was amazing. Had an Epiphone Collegiate Ole Miss Special sounded like crap but it's my favorite university. House fire took it all along with my Marshall and everything but the clothes on my back. I'd been eyeballing the Epiphone Silver Burst Custom Pro for years so I got one and I still have it. Since the Silver Burst I've gotten three of the better Standards the Plus Top Pro or whatever and I even got the Tommy Thayer Electric Blue and none of them came close to the Silver Burst and I never thought I'd find one unless I bought a Gibson but why would you buy a Gibson when this Jerry Cantrell Wino is so freaking awesome!? The strings are at the perfect height and it just sounds amazing. I know string height can be adjusted and the guitar set up but I would have to travel 80 miles or more one way from where I live. Anyway this guitar is amazing and all the standards and the Tommy Thayer were sold in a year or less. This one is staying with the Silver Burst. I know Gibson is better than Epiphone but not thousands of dollars better. If you are thinking about getting this guitar, you won't be disappointed. The looks are amazing, the sound and playability is incredible and the case is really freaking nice too. Oh and a very big thank you to zZounds for making it possible for me to get this guitar with their payment plan. You guys are awesome and I won't ever forget it. You have a new loyal customer.

This guitar is the absolute worst guitar I've unboxed...ever...Guitar is unplayable in it's current configuration. Action was .28" at 22 fret (that's over 1/4"). After lowering action at bridge, it's still unplayable because nut is cut too high, and it will need a fret dressing. Luckily, I can do it myself, but otherwise, you would need seek professional help to make this $900 guitar playable. It does look nice. Finish and fit are great, and after several hours of fret/neck work, I'm sure it will be a nice guitar. Out of the box, it's hot garbage.
