These pickups actually do what they say. They nail Metallica's tone, but that is not all. If you are into any kind of rock, hard rock, or metal you will love these pups ! I installed these into a Gibson Les Paul studio faded ( chambered body ) and they breathed life into this very average guitar. All the grit and growl you could ever want but controllable . Roll the volume back a bit for beautiful cleans and they sustain for decades. They take a little to get used to but become addictive quickly. If you play country or Jazz you will be let down. These pups are not for the faint of heart. Install took about 30 minutes. One complaint is that the volume and tone pots come with short shafts, Les Pauls require long shafts . So you have to spend another 60 bucks on long shaft pots only available from EMG. So you are looking at over a $300.00 upgrade on a Les Paul. To me it was worth it, just depends on what you want. Again these pickups do exactly what EMG claims I just think that long/short shafts should be an option with a set of pickups pushing $300.00 but I am still very pleased with them.

"My favorite emgs"

I put these in a esp ltd ec256. I got both the pickups and the guitar from zZounds. I love both. I read several reviews saying the the pots that come with this set won't fit a les paul style guitar. Well that is false. These went into my ec 256 like they were made for it. I had no trouble at all. Installation was easy. I bought a prewired harness at first because of what those reviews said but the active harness distioted when I turned down the volume. So I thought I would try the stuff that ca.e with the pickups. I wish I would've tried that first. Sounds better. But as for the pickups. You can check out sound samples on you tube. I love them. They are my favorite emgs.

These are really nice pickups, the sound great on my gibson custom les paul. At first glance the seemed complicated to install but with the solderless system it was actually a breeze. The black nickel covers look really nice on my black class 5. The sustain and harmonics are now just crazy, big improvement over the burstbucker 2,3 The only complaint is for les pauls one pair of the volume/ tone pots where not long enough. I emailed emg hoping they would would just send me new ones but instead I was directed to their store to purchase the longer version ones, so another $40 bucks later I got the correct ones.

They're a great pickup to have as an option, more expressive than the typical 81/60 though I do really like those better than the 81/85 combo. I really enjoy the JH set and I've been playing on them for about a year, I don't use them for everything but when I need them they deliver.

These pickups are the real deals. Great punch, amazing clarity. I was a fan of Emg for years and over time the pickups started to get a little tannish. The Hetset has brought me back to Emg.

Wow! These pickups are amazing! The cleans are super bright and the dirty side is ridiculous HEAVY! Only downside is price they are expensive but totally worth it. By the way they look killer too.
