The first thing I noticed is the speakers arrived very quickly un damaged and very well packed. My first listening experience was a several hour session in my living room. I played back a variety of different program material to see how they might behave later on. The first thing that caught my attention were how un-hyped the highs were. They sound very flat, not harsh like one might expect for a speaker in this price range. The menu was easy to navigate and the eq section can take them from mild to wild. Like others have said the monitor setting isn't very attractive sounding and after on show I took it off that setting. I use these as monitors primarily, and if I had one complaint it would be the 55 degree angle. I do a lot of work on shallow stages and I get dome complaints about the angle, 60 degrees would make these untouchable in this range. Last Friday night towards the end of the night the venue emptied out so I decided to go up on stage and get a good listen. I was totally blown away. The mix was great. I would have rather listened to the monitor mix than the house mix. Like anyone reading these reviews I was hesitant and was considering another inexpensive brand. I have one of their 15 inch powered speakers doing drum wedge work. I can honestly say they aren't in the same league, not even close. If I had sum these up with one word at this price point, it would be "untouchable."
Sound
The sound is solid, I thought they really came into their own playing rock music though.
Features
The menu adds some very useful features such as input metering. This made setting them up for monitoring a snap. I have also found the eq section to be handy for a broad brush type of setting.
Ease of Use
I believe that even those with limited knowledge could have these dialed in in no time at all. The manual is very good and easy to understand.
Quality
For a composite cab they seem to be well made and the rubber footing on the monitor side should keep them from getting scratched. The Behringer cab looked like it had done 50 shows after only one show. Like one other reviewer mentioned it would be nice to have the handle up when in monitor position. Otherwise the three handles make handling a breeze. Carrying two at a time is not an issue. Oh, buy the covers they are well made and in the end you will be glad you did!
Value
Well worth the money!
Manufacturer Support
Haven't needed to contact them.
The Wow Factor
These are a very sexy looking cabinet. They have gotten a lot of compliments.

So, If you're looking for some high quality speakers on a budget, these are the ones for you! I have owned several brands of speakers in the past(Bose, Behringer, Makie, Fender), and these are by far the best I've ever had! They have really nice features that you find in much priced speakers, and side by side, they sound as good as the K12's...although the K12's are great speakers and have just a little more volume, the ZLX's are half the price! These speakers get really loud and have great low end being a 12" speaker. I use 1 powered sub along with these and have no problem using in a venue for 150-200 people!

I just want to say that, I love my EV ZLX-12P loudspeakers. Before getting these I was using the Behringer B115's and would get frustrated because of the limits with them clipping and having to turn them off for a few minutes to reset them....Not anymore!!! Once I heard these puppies in a music store, I rushed home to see if zzsounds had them and I ordered immediatley. When they arrived, I unboxed them and loaded straight into my truck for a gig....still taking the b115's to be safe. When I got to the venue, I was immediately happy that i could carry them both in becasue they were light and once i got them plugged up and did my sound check I had people partying while the place was being set-up....it was amazing. I just purchased the sub to go with and waiting on it to arrive (fingers crossed). zzsounds is the place to get gear....period and in that order. I've placed multiple orders in the past and look forward to doing continued business with them....AND YOU SHOULD TOO!!!!!

"Plug & Play meets Loud & Clear"

Overall: 3.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
I have owned Mackie, Yamaha, JBL, Cerwin Vega, and various other speakers over the years. This is my first set of EV's and I must say that I am very impressed.
Sound
These boxes get loud and produce very clear, precise, and articulate sound reproduction. They have superb definition and move mass amounts of air before even thinking about distorting.
Features
The DSP is the shinning star of this product. It is quick, easy to use, very functional, and a great asset to this line.RCA's would have been nice (although the 3.5mm Aux Jack definitely supplements). My biggest complaint with these boxes are the lack of a dedicated Clip LED on the rear panel. It does have Clip Indicators on the LCD screen, and can be set for indication on the front LED, but I would really liked to have seen a dedicated LED that could be seen from a greater distance and/or angle on the rear.I almost dinged them below a 9 f on the Features Rating for the missing Clip LED but decided not to because of the feature rich DSP being offered at this price point.
Ease of Use
Plug & Play. The DSP is super easy to use... no manual required.
Quality
It feels solid and very well made. As with most products of this type- the knobs are usually the biggest vulnerability. I bought the fitted covers (which are great by the way) to help protect my investment during transport. The covers are a great buy. They are tight fitting and nicely padded with a deep side pocket for associated cords.
Value
There is no better bang for the buck currently on the market (especially without sacrificing quality). I am here to unequivocally say that the closest competitor to the ZLX 12P Speaker is, in fact, the QSC K-12... which are more than double the price.I would be very upset if I bought K-12's before this ZLX Series was launched.
Manufacturer Support
N/A
The Wow Factor
It is a sleek & sexy box outfitted well and would be quite at home at any black tie affair. The sound would not disappoint even if the price tag were doubled. I shopped hard before this purchase and it just didn't make sense to buy anything else.

I have used Behringers, Altos & Peaveys and always got frustrated on how they would clip, shut down, sound muddy. I bought these speakers and waited for them to come in. 2 days later, they came in at mid morning. I quickly unboxed them & put them in the car to take to a wedding. I DJ'd a wedding of little over 200ppl & was told a few times, how the speakers sounded amazing. I then used them the next day at a Block party and had no problems. I put around 12hrs on the speakers when I first got them. These are very easy to use. Light & sound amazing. I will be buying more very soon.

Tried these out for the first time on Sunday. I am a singer in a band with a whole PA but didn't want to use those speakers for the DJ job I was doing. So, I bought these speakers and was not disappointed. I was amazed at how loud and crisp the sound was and the volume never even had to go past half way to cover a room with 150 people. The controls were extremely easy to manage and they were 20 lbs less than my 15" speakers. I am extremely happy with my purchase and would interested in using them with some bottom ends for a full band show to hear how they would handle the full band sound. My guess is that they would do VERY well after the small sample of use I had the other night.
Sound
I used them to play music at my DJ gig... They sounded great

I purchased the ZLX-12Ps for my Karaoke show. I was using Behringer EUROLIVE B115D for the show but wanted something smaller that packed a good punch. I am not disappointed! These speaker have plenty of power for my venues, small to large and the sound is as good if not better than my colleagues systems using QSC, Bose, Peavy and others both expensive and cheap. Only minor complaint is handle placement.

Currently had jbl eon 515xt's wanted to down size so ordered two zlx12p's lost a good bit of bottom end (going from 15" to 12") but these things sounds amazing! The spread the area nice and cleanly and fill the room. My current small setup is 2 zlx12p's and two qsc kSubs they sound great together and can handle a venue on 150-200 people in my opinion. Btw I also ordered a ekx18sp sub used it once so far and sounded great had tight clean bass as apose to the qsc kw181 that has a raw bass. Qsc def goes louder but I like the cleaner sound as opposed to raw.

"Best Speakers you will ever buy for DJ or band"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I am a DJ and musician for many years but gave up the DJ business a couple of years ago and still playing drums a couple gigs every month with the band. I was asked by my local social club if I would be interested in doing an annual event this Fall. I still had all my music from many years of buying 45’s and LP’s and CD’s. I replied sure, I would like to do the event. We rented some Alto powered speakers from the local AV rental store. The event was a great event and we received many compliments from our music selection and always been known to get many people on the dance floor. The club asked me if I would be interested in doing some more events and club parties. We said yes!Now the hard part! Purchasing some good equipment without coming up with the upfront funds needed to get started. I already had a mixer and only needed some speakers! Here is where zZounds comes in to help me! Last year I bought a brand new Fender Rumble Bass Amplifier on the zZounds payment plan. What a great thing they do is the easy 6-month payment plan. It was already paid off in Six months. So I called zZounds and told them I was getting back in the DJ business and needed some new speakers. I had already shopped at the local music store and knew exactly what I wanted. It was Two (2) Electro-Voice ZLX-12P Powered Loudspeakers. I wanted to protect my investment so I got the speaker Pack that included the speaker covers, speaker wires and Speaker stands. These Electro-Voice ZLX-12P Powered Loudspeakers speakers blew me away! I was thinking about getting a Sub Woofer but the bass on these speakers you will not need one. They have a nice setup and memory presets that can be saved for your next gig. Plug them in and you are ready to go! These are built for the pros! The sound out of these speakers is outstanding! Turn your mixer all the way down and not EVEN a hiss sound or anything coming out of them. Dead silence is what you want especially during wedding toasts and during the wedding ceromony. When you order these ZLX-12P Powered Speakers tell them the Doctor sent you here for them! You will not be disappointed at all!

Bought this speaker to replace my old aging Peavey Sp-2a's and power amp. What a dynamite sound in a small package. I plugged my little Alesis mulitmix 8 into this loud speaker with electric piano, electronic drums, and my Ibanez electric acoustic and was blown away at the sound quality. I only purchased 1 for practice, I will be getting another one with a sub for our shows we will be doing soon. A++++ Electro-voice. Great equipment.

I am not a professional DJ. I bought this speaker for tailgating at UVA football games. last year my group rented a QSC K12 for the last game of the year and it was great. I looked at prices and realized it was over our budget. I did some searching and found the EV ZLX-12P. I watched countless Youtube videos and read a lot of reviews. I finally pulled the trigger and I have not been disappointed. This thing gets loud, and is crisp and clear. We keep it maxed out for a good 4-6 hours at any given tailgate. We've had people from across the parking lot (a long way from us) requesting songs because they could hear it clearly. This speaker is just as good as the QSC in my novice opinion. Easy to setup and the controls on the back are simple to use. Pull the trigger, you won't regret it.

The one I got had a loud resonant buzzing sound. I isolated it to the volume knob on the back vibrating like crazy with certain frequencies. I tried dampening the knob from vibrating, but another vibration was happening somewhere in the cab that I couldn't easily isolate. Maybe something was loose inside? I don't know. But, with all the buzzing at modest volumes, this was going back. At lower volumes, the speaker sounded great. Could be a great speaker at this price point if the buzzing can be worked out.

I made the decision last summer to start replacing my old passive speakers with actives a little at a time as budget allowed. I contacted Zzounds and we talked about a couple models to fit the bill with our rock band and we started with a single ZLX-12P. At first we ran that with a old pair of EV1202s and Some older Peavy cabs I have powered by my old BGW and Carver amps. We replaced units one at a time until I was running no more passive cabs and all active FOH and monitors. The sound is crystal clear, the cabs are light, and they are plenty loud enough when paired off with matching subs for even an outdoor park concert we ran. That was just 2 ZLX-12p tops and 2 EKX 15 subs. Then one day in practice we got a fizzling sound for a couple seconds out of one of the tops and the LED went out. Speaker kept pumping along but the LED was popped. I jumped on their website and hit the support email contact. The next day I received a reply from Jackie in Bosch service explaining the steps and preparing my RA. The day after I got her the serial and info I had a shipping label and RA. I shipped it on a Wednesday, it arrived Friday, was repaired and shipped back Monday. 8 days later I had my repaired speaker back in the fleet. Amazing customer service by zZounds at the beginning, and superb service by Bosch (EV) when needed. I know I will buy other brands here and there for things but EV will always be at the top of the list.

OK, These speakers do a great job. Lots of head room with these digital amplifiers, perfect for instruments/keyboard workstation, live performances and of course a DJ'S dream. Now here is the thing. These are not the EV ZX1'S or the ETX which have DH-2 and DH-3 drivers in them and a cross over point that is much different than the ZLX's. The ZLX's have a DH-1 driver which emits less mids and more high end from 10 to 20 k. The cross over points are set up differently which means you will need a more complex EQ to bring out the upper mids in your vocals through the ZLX cabinates. Dont get me wrong, the ZLX's are great and I will be using them for bigger rooms in a live performance, but you will need a parametric eq to bring out the upper mids of your vocals. Many thanks to zZounds for the great deal on the ZLX's.

I have three of these bad boys for my cover band. We use one for a monitor and two mains with a 500 watt 15 inch Behringer powered sub. We mic the vocals and kick drum and play our guitars and bass through our backline of MESA, AMPEG and MARSHALL, with a 12 channel Mackie mixer and always get complements from other musicians that I know about how good everything sounds and what a great mix we have! The weigh very little my PA system fits in the trunk of my Malibu! Very happy! only issue is the little light quit working but the speakers work fine....

I recently upgraded to these from Behringer B215D's and let me tell you. I couldn't be happier. These blow the old ones away. Cleaner sound, better bass (yes even better than the 15s from Behringer), lighter, more pleasing to the eye. I've DJed 5 gigs now over the last month and these bad boys rock! Before I bought these I went to my local to compare them to the QSC K12s and these sound nearly as good at half the price. If you are looking for some new tops get these!

I purchased a pair of these from zZounds about one month ago. I waited to do my review so that I could be as informed as possible. Here we go, I currently have 4 EVzlx-15p speakers, 3 EVzlx-12p and 2 18 EVzlx subs. I can tell you now these are phenomenal! The setup is pretty straightforward and logical, if on poles, setup allows you that choice to optimize the sound, in the monitor position, select that. Are you using the speakers for music, live sound, and or speaking? You guessed it you can set them up for that. If you are using a sub you can select that as well. If you are using the EV sub as I am you can actually select the model for even better response from the optimized crossover (preset). These are loud and they will quite literally blow you off the stage. The setup is very flexible, I have used the 12s with my Fender Mustang floor and Digitech RP1000 as well as other floor pedals that allow you multi-effects. Remember these are full spectrum sound speakers that can actually recreate the frequencies that these pedals can produce. I will not tell you they sound as great as the 15s, They sound great, the 15's of course cover more bottom end. Hooking these up to a mixer is a snap. There are in fact two inputs and one output (to sub) you can use the XLR or the 1/4 instrument cable. I currently use one for only music as there is one 1/8 stereo plug on each as well. I cannot aptly explain to you how much my life has changed with this flexibility! There is not a venue that I will play that I cannot look and sound professional. Use whatever mixer you like, I chose the QSC touch mix 16 (another review for another time). They sell covers for these and I have ordered them, for now when not in use I just put the box they came in over them. They are so efficient I conducted a sound test with only one outlet and two powerstrips! The whole setup played for over 30 minutes at 80% volume with no tripped breaker. For those of you that have had to play places with questionable power or limited outlets, this alone should rest your concerns. If you are looking to get to the upper level of reliability and sound creation/recreation you can't do much better. I truly believe the price point here is the best for the money. The performance is crazy good. In short if you are looking for something trouble free and easy to use/setup. I have demoed these to friends and other bands that I know and you can see the look on the faces when they hear this setup (jealousy, amazement, awe, and calculating a purchase). Get these with the Play as you Pay and how could you go wrong? These will amaze you. CJWII

These zlx12p speakers sound amazing. Very deep bass and crisp highs, very well built, very low noise floor from amp, practically no hiss or hum while on at high volume. Price was low and delivery was fast. It was much better to order from Zzounds with two day delivery considering they're located in NJ as opposed to PSSL that's located in CA

"I really like these speakers"

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I have three of them two used one new and I will say they are a solid speaker. My only issue, they peak kind of early after all they are only 1000w peak. That being said, I am a wedding/party dj and use them on every job and all in all not bad, what I found to avoid peaking and limiting too early is make sure you have a sub and cut the low end to the speakers only have mids and highs to the tops. Good for 150-200 with 3 speakers

I recently purchased these speakers after shopping around for a new powered speakers for my gigs in town. After much listening, I love how well rounded these speakers sounded and the digital mixer in the back is a plus for any small gigs that need no outboard mixer, you can literally just plug and go! EV just stepped the game with these speakers. Add that with ZZounds awesome service... and you have a great product with great pricing plans.

I was looking to get the QSC's but I did a party in St Charles and they use the EV's, I did the party with no problem and the sounded great. I normally use my subwoofer but with the EV's I don;t really have to take it with me. The size and weight are excellent.

I'm doing my happy dance, these speakers are legit! I'm glad I went with these after weeks of reading several reviews to pick the best speaker investment wise! E.V. certainly created a winner that is affordable!
Sound
Clean, strong bass and I pushed them to see where they'd clip. Yet, that wasn't the case and at the half way mark I knew the can handle some serious sound!
Features
4 preset EQ stood, master volume as well as the line volumes, xlr-1/4 combo plugins
Ease of Use
Plug and play, turn volume to your liking
Quality
Very well made and sturdy! It has a little weight to it, but it worth having!
Value
I tried Alto & Behringer, great stuff, but for about a $100 bucks more, it was worth every penny!
Manufacturer Support
N/A
The Wow Factor
Once I turned it on, I was on two and the was loud, screaming loud! I was doing some volume adjustments in the process! My speakers prior needed a mixing board to handle sound! You won't have to with these, unless you have a major crowd to deal with!

"A Decent Little Speaker For The Money"

Overall: 3.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)

I bought four of these to replace my passive monitor rig that I use in my small live sound rental business. So far they have proven themselves to be adequate when used as monitor speakers so I plan to get two more of them this week. They are not extremely loud and the DSP (specificallly the limiter) does a pretty good job of keeping them from sounding really harsh or distorted when pushed (which is a common complaint for other budget or entry level 12" + HF cabinets like the Makie Thump or even the K12). I have a gig coming up Friday where I plan on using these speakers as mains over a pair of QSC KW 181 subwoofers (this lightens my truck pack dramatically not bringing the large, heavy QSC KW 153 mains that I normally use and it will simplify load in). This will also test the versatility of the speakers and the DSP. As we all know only time will tell if they will hold up to the long term abuse dished out on the road. Overall, the ZLX 12 P is a great choice for use as a monitor. It does not get very loud before the limiter kicks in hard and stops it from clipping, but that makes for a better more forgiving speaker.

"ZLX-12P - 5 Stars!"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Super impressed with the sound, build quality and just overall speaker. I researched weeks and weeks and was hesitant to buy these speakers. I was very unhappy with my current set up and needed an upgrade. I had a set of 12's I bought off amazon for $200 each. I was afraid to get another set of 12's and have the same issue but was recommended these from a good friend. Without any tuning just plug and play i noticed a dramatic difference. Warm sound and just fills the space beautifully, I am extremely happy with these speakers! and happy with zZounds for always providing quick delivery and payments.

At this price point, I don't know that you will find a better speaker! Great crisp and clear output even at higher volumes. The weight of the cabinet is nice and manageable, plus the finish looks to be fairly rugged. Overall, I'm loving these speakers and will see how they do over time.

I bought a pair of these because I've always loved the sound of EV's. These are my first. I play professionaly at least three time a week. They have all the punch and clarity I need for almost any medium size venue. They are easy to transport when I do a solo or my trio. Very impressed with the bottom end. I will be buying more EV products. And of course zZounds delievered like promised.

"Ev zlx 12p vs yamaha dxr12"

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars

Ev zlx 12p is the clearest nicest sound you could imagine at its own volume. Common ev warmth ,sleek stylish look.Excellent for small venues for say up to 100 people. Sounds good with subs. Rms is really about 250. Has two limit lights, they limit real quick on the first input limit but you can let them roll until you see max input limit, time to reduce your gain input then. If u wanna hear serious sound I would recommend the yamaha dxr 12. I have never been a fan of yamaha until I heard these speakers. I traded both my ev zlx 12p in for the yamahas, they are tough.hard decision between yamaha dxr 12 n qsc k12. Yamaha has best warranty, 7 years.still plan on purchasing k12's too.

Don't believe all the great reviews. You can't get these louder than the non-mic'd acoustic drum set. Let me rephrase that, you can but you will be smelling the electronics make a smell that can only be described as "burning band-aids" - it's probably a feature from EV, the plastic, burning smell tells you when it's time to stop playing and go back to your job. lol Hate these.
