"Best overdrive pedal I've heard!"

Besides the pedal this is modeled after - Klon Centaur - this is the best overdrive I've heard. Keep your Tube Screamers, TS808s, OD-1s, all of it. You can have your handmade, boutique overdrive that costs 3x's the amount as this. But why do any of that when you get the best overdrive pedal, in my opinion, on the market, under $200? If you're looking to use this for hardcore or anything of the sort, don't waste your time. But for anything that needs low to medium overdrive, this is all you will very need. Don't get me wrong; you can get some heavier gain out of this pedal depending on your pickups, but it's not really meant for that. I use this with a Spark Mini booster right before this in my chain, and not only does the Spark add volume in it's spot in the chain, but it also adds more of a light crunch to the Soul Food as well. This was everything I was looking for. I will be adding a RAT as well after this pedal in the chain, but I promise you, this is the best sounding overdrive pedal you can get.

I've been playing guitar for 12 years, drums and bass for 6. I've been playing in bands for the past 4 years or so.

Musical Style:

I play easycore and more emo/indie stuff like Tourneforte with this pedal.

"This is what I've been missing"

Okay, I never write reviews, but the Soul Food overdrive is so good I have to talk about it!Running a Vox VT40x, I like the modeling sounds, but there's a bite that's missing, even at volume. So, I set up a clean channel emulating a Vox AC15, plugged the Soul Food pedal into the chain, hit the switch and was absolutely floored by the tone. I didn't even adjust the knobs, just left them as they were from the factory at 12 o'clock. Instant transformation with both of my guitars. The Mockingbird Custom has more depth, and the natural harmonics cross just at the edge of feedback for some incredible sustain. I got chills when I played the first chords through the Soul Food. My SG now has a vintage crunch it was missing. Soul Food saved me from getting new pickups. This pedal is absolutely worth it, as good as the EH pedals I remember from 40 years ago. Almost every user I talked to before buying said that this is an "always on" pedal, it helps their sound so much.Get it, you won't be disappointed.(Hey zZounds, I tried to click 5-stars, but I got 4.5 on a couple and they can't be changed.)

The best OD pedal I have used, I get so many compliments on my tone since adding the Soul Food. My chain is Boss TU 2 tuner, Spark booster, Donner Jet Convolution, Soul Food, Boss DD 7 and Mini Hall of Fame 2. Guitars are PRS SE models and Fender Deluxe. The versatility of the Soul Food is so smooth, no noise tone is incredible. Only wish the on light was at top of pedal, when switching on and off it is hidden under foot makes it a little hard to ensure I have pressed hard enough. The SF mixed with the Spark is absolutely fat and the warmest incredible tones with such little money. I highly recommend this pedal. 10 stars

"Great low gain OD pedal!"

I love EHX pedals. They always seem to hit the sweet spot of price/performance. The Soul Food is a Klon type pedal that isn't going to give a lot of high gain, but it does wonders for adding that little something to your sound. On its own it's a great 'transparent' OD for blues licks or adding a little more grit to your amps tone and sounds great with a little verb or delay behind it for some hybrid picking licks. It's also a great stack pedal. Stack it in front of an East River Drive and you are right in the middle of some great blues territory.

Very nice and variable rangy pedal. Huge bargain and a steal at $79. I have had it for 4 months and use it and stack it with other pedals right in the middle. Fantastic and fun. Electro Harmonix hits lots of home runs with this one
