As a longtime fan of Jimi Hendrix, I've wanted a Uni-Vibe for many years. That epic warble as showcased so magnificently in 'Machine Gun' made it to me a must-have effect. Of course the original Uni-Vibe has long been out of production so many thanks to MXR for releasing this true gem of a pedal. In addition to Jimi, David Gilmour & Robin Trower also made great use of this distinctive effect. This new incarnation lacks the expression pedal the originals had to control the speed and depth but I run mine in conjunction with an MXR Vari-Phase pedal which does a fair approximation of the original units. I personally prefer to run the Uni-Vibe in the optional 'vibrato only' mode and let the Vari-Phase handle the phasing aspect. I have also experimented with using an MXR Phase 95 in place of the Vari-Phase with good results. The level, speed and depth controls offer a great variety of sounds though I prefer a subtle wobble (as opposed to the manic quivering you get at higher speed settings). Being an MXR, this pedal, like the other ten MXR pedals I own, is built to last. This isn't a pedal for modern rock sounds but for us older guys who started playing in the 1970's, this baby is a MUST HAVE item. (I haven't had to contact MXR/Dunlop since I've never once had a problem with one of their pedals so I gave them 5 Stars for 'Manufacturer Support' for such consistently good products.)
