"Sound Searching? - Find yourself in the RP300"
This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
Having used this pedal for about three years iin all sorts of occasions....concert performances, backyard bbqs (be sure to put cardboard underneath!!), practice, recording.....I have been very happy with the RP300. I am looking to replace it with some specfic pedals to acheive a specific sound, but am not in a hurry as this unit takes care of my needs in the meanwhile. I will never get rid of this pedal....it'll have to straight-up break for good before I get rid of it.
If there were a specific complaint I have it would be that there are FAR too many ways to change your volume. Between your guitar, this pedal, and your amp, there are like 8 or 9 ways to turn your volume up and down. Way too confusing and creates inconsistancies when changing settings that can really piss you off if in a live situation.
For it's price, it's a damn good buy...and a great tool for giving your music options. My advise would be that any developing guitar player would love using and learning from this pedal....through time you may out grow it, but the experience will be worth it.
Sound
The reason I give the sound rating an "8" is based on an overall review of the settings given and the sounds desired. My stylings have always been in blues, rock n' roll, and country...so I don't really have a need for a lot of the more metal settings, nor the sorta far-out syth effects that sound just plain fake. Don't get me wrong, these settings are fun to play around with and depending on your tastes could be useful, but I got no real use for em.
This pedal is capable of some fine vintage sounding tones and can go gonzo whenever you want. Personally, I think their "Cowpie" preset is the best thing they got....very classic sound for all types of music. The wah pedal is a little wierd and hard to get sounding the way I want. I've opted to using my actual crybaby for wah effects, and just use the expression pedal on the RP300 as an on/off switch for other effects like delay, reverb, gain. I have found that as a volume pedal it is too hard to use....I'd much rather control my volume with the controls on my Telecaster. There is no display of your level on the pedal when using the volume pedal function, and when playing live I've found that it's hard to just find your level in one quick move of your foot. Sometimes it too loud, sometimes it's not loud enough.
If this pedal is being used in a live setting, be sure you have your presets lined up together so you may find them quickly. Overall, this pedal has too many ways to increase and decrease your volume, so be sure you know where all your levels are when using differents effects/settings for different songs.
SET-UP, SET-UP, SET-UP....Set it up yourself. While the presets are great, you've got to make your own settings to hear how you really can sound with this pedal. If you like fuzz.....create your own fuzz setting and see if it works, cause thier "Foxy", or fuzz setting is SO overblown that no matter how clean your playing may be, you'll sound like that distant radio station that never really comes in.
At the end of the day, the sounds capable here are alright. Some, I love in principle, but the rotory speaker effect in this machine sounds terrible...very digital, very electronic, very fake.
I would have loved to see a signal booster, but the only way to do that with this unit is to use their amp models for gain and distortion. Personally, if you buy an amp, you want to sound like that amp, and not like a modeled version of another amp. Using a signal booster would surely help drive your amp, but without using one, you are forced to use thier modeled distortion and you might be dissapointed.
For recording purposes (if can't mike your amp or play loudly), you can plug this box straight into your computer or your four-track and get good quality recordings.
All-in-all, this pedal really serves as the best tool out there to help you realize your sound. You have access to tons of effects and sounds and if you are like me, you will play with all of them. You'll play some crazy stuff just messing around with this thing. Having played with this pedal in solitude and in many live performances I have a better feeling of what I want by knowing what I don't want. Experiment with this pedal, it'll be worth it.
Features
Some of the features included in this unit (outside of the massive amount of effects) include a REALLY CHEESY "drum machine". It's ok, if you want to practice playing within an audible time, but they really just sound bad....I mean like if I ever played the blues with a drummer that played their version of that beat......I'd kill myself....right there on stage.
The line out has a left and a right channel, or in other words...it can help play in stereo!! This feature is very cool and allows your to pan your sound back and forth at will or at an already preset level.
The RP300 has a headphone slot.....works fine.
Also, there's a feature that allows you to plug in a portible music device such as a Diskman or an iPod and play along, over the music. That's pretty cool, and works just fine.
There's a "learn-a-lick" feature that allows you to record a piece of music from the "playalong" jack and loop it at whatever speed you'd like w/out losing pitch. I think the feature is too complicated to use and much prefer the good old technique of playing along at the song's actual speed.
In my opinion, all these features are great, with the exception of the "learn-a-lick".
Quality
Well, now I've had this pedal for over three years and already the navigational footswitches and channel footswitch are screwed. If it weren't for the fact I'm a handy guy, I don't know what I would have done. All the footswitches are big, cheap plastic buttons held in place by what looks like large paperclips. A number of times, I've had to open the pedal up and "jerry-rig" the footswitches so they will work, and even that is not consistant. Basically if used in a live setting this pedal is not the most reliable product, BUT when working the way it should, it is amazing and quality sounding pedal.
Value
Compared to the price of buying all the different pedals and sounds included in this one product, this pedal is worth what I've paid and what I've seen as far as retail prices on the web and in-store.
Manufacturer Support
I've only used their website for getting a copy of the manual, which was there and easy to find.....otherwise I've never contacted them for support.
The Wow Factor
As far as asthetics, I feel the look is kinda Fisher Price. A dull grey metal casing, with big blue buttons and knobs and a big, bright display. That's cool and all, but just not my style. BUT since it has SO many features that sound good, I beleive that the ugly duckling is truly a swan.

"The device is hot,...others are not :P"
What can I say? Get it! It's perfect for you!!! Was for me,....don't get your behind ripped off by getting a stompbox for home use,...only for gigs!!!!!
Sound
Sounds real good! I've been playing for many years now. I like playing because it makes my crappy amp sound godlike.
Features
There are a lot of features packed into this little box. I must say,..there are a lot of parameters to set and I got a little confused, but thats good because more parameters mean more different unique settings!
Quality
I can't raelly find anthing bad in the construction,.it's rugged and can't really break. Although the pedal is abs plastic,....that doesnt bother me,..ABS is tough!!
Value
This item is perfect for home use and practice! It's really fun to ems with! The price is actually too low for what the rp300 can do!
Manufacturer Support
No clue,..didn't deal with em because I never had problems so far!
I bet it's good tho (just go to the store where you got the rp300)
The Wow Factor
It looks really space age with the silver blue and the green display!!!! I went to the store,..the dude behind the counter showed me the pedal and I fell in love with it at an instant!!!!!

"This pedal ROCKS!!"
I've never wanted anyone else's pedal. This is good enough to have quality effects- the AMP A/B switch is VERY handy, and this pedal isn't so complex that you will never fully figure it out. Making your own effects is simple and easy.
Sound
The effects are very nice, and they are worth the money you pay for it. I mostly use effects that ive created myself, it sounds really good with high gain.
Features
the tuner really comes in handy and the drum machine is very useful when you're playing alone and need something to help you keep timing.
Ease of Use
It takes a while to get used to when you first buy it, but after a week or two you pretty much have the whole thing figured out.
Quality
This thing is very nice. It is sturdy and can handle a few falls- I've learned form experience. I've had it for almost 3 years now and i havent had a problem with it breaking or not functioning properly ever.
Value
This pedal is worth every penny. I see it is on sale for $150, but i bought it for $200 and it was worth every penny.
Manufacturer Support
I've never had to return it... but im guessing the support would be a 10!
The Wow Factor
This pedal is sexy. If i ever saw someone else using all the effects id want to buy it right away.

"This is ONE great buy!!!"
Verified Customer
zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
I'll be satisfied until the day it dies. I would probably upgrade rather than buy the same product again. However, I am highly likely to buy from the same manufacturer when upgrading my equipment. So, this has nothing to do with this product. It would certainly be worth the purchase price. Buy new, not used. You never know. . .you know??? It does all I need it to and more. I like the power it gives me but do still wish I could program it to go to certain sounds when I'm ready for them, rather than having to scroll through the settings.
Sound
I must say this thing has some awesome sound quality. I've been using it for nearly two years playing in a rock-worship band. There are settings that are suitable for any style of music, and there are some I have yet to discover and experience. This product makes my $450 amp sound like a $2000 stack. Get one!!!
Features
I got exactly what I paid for. The product is well described on the website and I've no regrets. The only thing that could make this a better piece of equipment is to be able to program sounds for certain songs, to go directly to those sounds without having to scroll through the presets.
Ease of Use
I give a lower score here. For musicians who are on-the-go and/or who are parents may not have the time to figure this thing out. However, like I said, there is yet to be discovered and I plan to do so this spring/summer. I don't find it to be all that easy. It is easy enough to change sounds, but to use other functions is going to take me more time and effort.
Quality
As I've said, I have been using this pedal for nearly 2 years and its taken all I've been able to throw at it. I'm a bit OCD'ish, so it is important to me to keep it in the box it came in when I'm not using it. So, if you take care of it, it will last a long time. Cosmetically, it looks like it did the day I took it out for the first time. I also have two very hyper boys who have been using this pedal in their own practice. It has withstood the abuse.
Value
A lot for the money. There is more to this product than I may ever use.
Manufacturer Support
The pedal has been so good, I've not had to talk to support.
The Wow Factor
How would I rate the "sex appeal" of this product??? What a funny question. . .I've never thought of the product quite that way before. It is attractive and fun to use. It looks great on the stage and I have received several comments from fellow bandmembers and other people who just walk up on the stage to look at it. The description I get the most from other people is, "That's an awesome piece of equipment!"

"LOOKING FOR MORE SOUND ON CUTTING EDGE."
WHEN IT CAN BE ECONOMICALLY FEASABLE TO SELL A TUBE MODELLER THAT IS AFFORDABLE TO ALL WHO WISH TO OPERATE ON THAT LEVEL AND FOR ALL THOSE WANTING TO UPGRADE WITHOUT TRADING IN THEIR LEFT NUT, THIS WILL DO FOR SOME TIME.
Sound
I USE IT ON MY FENDER BLUES REISSUE. I HESITATED BUYING ANY PROCESSOR BECAUSE THEY ALL KILL THE NATURAL VOICING AND DIANAMICS OF THE TUBE AMP, HOWEVER MY FRIENDS HAVE THE DIGITECH AND SOME OF THE MUSIC CAN BE ENHANCED SO I BOUGHT THIS MODEL AND GIVING THE ABOVE(WHICH I CAN UNPLUG THE UNIT WHEN NOT NEEDED) THE SOUND IS QUITE GOOD. LOTS OF ROOM TO CUSTIMIZE AND THE SOUND REALLY DOES SOUND GOOD FOR THE DESIRED EFFECT. WHEN I WANT THE TUBE NATURAL SOUND, LIKE I SAID, I JUST DISCONECT THIS UNIT FROM THE AMP AND SINCE NOBODY WOULD WANT TO HEAR ME ON STAGE THIS DOES NOT POSE A PROBLEM. HUM.
Features
THE FEATURES ARE MORE THEN ADAQUATE AND THEY ARE EASY TO USE ONCE ONE STUDIES THE LAYOUT, MUCH EASIER THEN LINE SIX PODXT IN MY OPINION. THE ONE SHORTFALL IS THAT IT SEEMS TO NOT BE SET UP FOR LOOP EFFECTS; JUST ONE SIDE HOOKS UP AND IT WOULD BE MUCH EASIER TO BYPASS WHEN NOT NEEDED. EVEN THOUGH THERE IS A BYPASS ON THIS UNIT, BECAUSE THE GUITAR RUNS THROUGH THE UNIT IT PREVENTS THE AMPS NATURAL VOICING FROM COMING THROUGH WHILE THE DIGITECH IS PLUGGED INTO THE AMP. THE PEDAL IS NICE AND A MUST, AS IS THE READABLE SCREEN AND LOGICAL LAYOUT.
Ease of Use
ALREADY DISCUSSED ABOVE. IT'S PRETTY MUCH SELF EXPLAINING AFTER QUICKLY READING THE INSTRUCTION. HALF WAY THROUGH YOU CAN PRETTY MUCH FIGURE OUT THE REST.
Quality
FAIRLY NEW SO I CAN'T REALLY JUDGE IT. LOOKS TOUGH AS NAILS AND AS LONG AS NO ONE STOMPS THE HELL OUT OF IT IT WILL PROBABLY KEEP ON TICKING.
Value
ALL THIS FOR $200, YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING. A SIMPLE STOMP BOX COST 40% THIS COST NOT TO MENTION A PEDAL AND THE DRUM MACHINE WHICH SOUNDS LIKE AN ER AH SIMPLE DRUM MACHINE; HOW CAN YOU GO WRONG??? AND FOR THOSE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE DRUM MACHINE IT'S A MACHINE NOT A DRUMMER IN A BOX. GET IT?
Manufacturer Support
DON'T KNOW DON'T WANT TO KNOW....EVER.
The Wow Factor
AS FAR AS SEX APPEAL, ITS NOT A WOMAN SO LETS LOOSE THAT DISCRIPTION. ITS A TOOL THAT DOES A FUNCTION AND FOR THE PRICE IT DOES AN EXCELLANT JOB OF IT AND THAT MAKES IT SWEEEET.

"A ton of studio quilty effects for a very reasonable price."
Think I'll keep this on for a while
Sound
I think the sound quality is really great for the price. It can be a little thin when going direct into a board, but I am not an effect whiz and I am sure if you really know what you are doing, you can really get some great sounds out of this thing. Though amp - which I have set to a neutral clean sound - it sounds fantastic. The presets are not that great. You really need to mess around with getting your own sound. I play Blues/Jazz Fusion and was able to create just the perfect sound for both my clean and distorted sound and then easily copy the patch to other banks for adding other effects like more delay, chorus, detune, reverb, wah... The options are endless.
Features
Imagine having every effect you could ever want; a basic drum machine; dozens of different amp, cabinet and pickup model combos; Jam-Along where you can plug in a CD or MP3 player and jam along right through the unit; Learn-A-Lick feature that slows down recorded phrases that allow you to learn fast licks; and the ability to go direct into a board for recording. All for around $150-$200. Not bad at all.
Ease of Use
I am not an effect whiz, but I have been able to easily create patches, name them and copy them. It has a simple matrix interface.
Quality
Had it for three years with no prblems. Very solid.
Value
A lot for the price.
Manufacturer Support

"Delivers as promised - you won't be sorry you got this!"
Verified Purchaser
zZounds has verified that this reviewer purchased this specific product from us.
I was debating between the RP200 and this one (RP300A) - I finally decided to go with the RP300A due to the added features (true stereo out, triggered flaner and triggered phaser ettcest, etc.). I really love the RP300A - it's everything it promises to be. But I'm sure I would have loved the RP200 as well. Definitely buy from this family, you can't go wrong!
Features
Incredible set of features - so many sound effects and nice drum patterns! Remember, the power supply too is included. Of course, that's all that's included - no cables, etc. (as expected).

"DigiTech RP300A"
Verified Customer
zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
Sound
It has a very clear clean sound.
Features
There is a ton of different features. The whammy is really fun the play with. The pitch shifter is great for cool solos.
Ease of Use
I thought that it was very easy to use. I noticed that a lot of people gave this a low rating most likely because they didn't read the manual.
Quality
It's mostly very good quality but there was a few thin pieces of plastic but that's all.
Value
Right now it's a great value. It used to be $250 so if you can get it for $100 you should.
Manufacturer Support
I've never had any problems with it.

"sale sale sale sale"
why sould i have to look, there is effects on the rp300a i will problaly never use
Sound
no matter what guitar you are playing,a cheapo with no string buzz set up properly, or even a name brand guitar, the rp300a is a state of the art sond processor of the future,my kuston 65 watt amp can sound like a marshall, and old tweed or even just like the new mathbox amp, a drum machine, all the individuall effects, a single coil can sound like a humbucker, this bad mama jama, even has a tuner, and even when im playing my best guitars, gibson,or my fender and i want no more a clean sound(which the rp300a has)you can by pass it all.which i prefer the effect, i dont even play my acoustics out to a gig, becuase thats right you guessed , there is an acoustic setting, which when the wah pedal/volume pedal is not set for use on wah, it actually changes tone if set properly, i guess what i am trying to convey to you is that if the rp300a was 299.99 it would still be a heck of a deal no even better the deal of a lifetime.
Features
i will never use any other effect than my rp300a.
Quality
the rp300a is not only sleek looking, when your on stage and you look down everything is positioned so perfectly and need one cord in one cord out, it just doesn,t get better.
Value
now that i have mine you could raise the price even more than a 100.00 and it would still be an excellent buy
Manufacturer Support
at this time i was not in need of thier service
The Wow Factor
instantly i laid my eyes and i reached for my wallet to find out it was only 199.99,as you could guess i've been smilin ever since
