I had a great experience with Pioneer over the years up until I received terrible support after purchasing their s all in one controllers: they simply would stop working1/2 way through a show (embarrassing to say the least). I then decided to give Denon a try despite my limited experience with the brand as a whole. I was not only surprised but I was immediately taken back by the build quality of the controller itself. The software is easy to use and the multiple inputs were fantastic (laptop, USB, etc). One of my favorite features has been selecting 4 tracks in advance (small feature but an awesome one). I’ve never had any “booting issues”, jog wheel issues, or the notorious “freezing” issues I had with my previous Pioneer controllers. The best part is always zZounds customer support (which you get regardless of brand). I was able to pick up the warehouse open box for a few hundred off which is always a plus. I originally purchased the controller in 2019 and sold it last summer for a different controller. Now, here I am finding myself purchasing ANOTHER Denon Prime 4 to replace another brands controller. Needless to say, my overall experience with this deck has been nothing short of fantastic. Like anything there are brand specific quirks but it’s nothing you don’t eventually get used to. I definitely recommend.

Pioneer is on the outs - Pioneer big box sold the DJ part - rumored to be sold again. They haven't innovated since NXS series YEARS ago. Their controllers are plastic rerun crap in comparison.The only thing that takes away from Denon is their Engine Prime software (used to scan songs for grids n key) isn't as mature as the rest. BUT... they just bought a software company and a completely new revision will be coming sooner rather than later. And the hardware... ooh is the hardware so much better. I LOVE having the screen center showing all 4 tracks - makes it so much easier to mix on 3-4 decks having them all right there even compared to their club offering (which not only is better made and more feature packed but is HALF price for two decks and a mixer compared to a Pioneer set up. I started on Technics, then Serato Scratch bc I was trying to hold onto vinyl for dear life. After that Pioneer changed the game - then they just quit because for close to a decade they ran the game. NO MORE.

had it less than a year before the screen message of click to restart came up . after clicking , the message continued to reappear. It never restarted and I'm still waiting for a response from Denon dj.

I’m on my 4th replacement unit from Denon DJ due to bad broken jog wheels. I originally bought the Prime 4 when it first came out but they it I received had issues with the soundboard so I returned it to zZounds. I waited a couple months and repurchased the Prime 4 on May 1st 2020 o pop yo to have a unit with defective unresponsive jog wheels a couple days ago. Instead of returning it to zZounds I decided to go through Denon DJ (BIG MISTAKE). They sent me a brand new replacement unit right away. I then sent them the original unit I had bought. Well the brand replacement unit they sent me also has broken jog wheels and now I’m stuck waiting for another replacement unit. Four (4) broken Prime 4 units is not a coincidence. I should’ve returned the original defective Prime 4 to zZounds instead of going through Denon DJ. Beware and save your money for something else. While these Prime units have so many features they also have so many problems with no fix.

I originally had posted a negative review on this unit. I was sort of an early adopter. After several updates to the firmware, IOS and desktop apps, a lot of bus were fixed, the search has improved significantly, and issues I had were resolved by creating a new user profile on the unit. The added built in sound switch feature, the sound quality, and expandability make it a great piece overall. Sorry denon for the initial review. The standalone pioneer unit seems kind of cheap quality wise compared to this unit. Overall I would definitely recommend.
