"Another Happy D'Angelico Customer!!"

This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
Always been a fan of D'Angelico but never had the opportunity to play one. Wanted to get a big body jazz box but something more versatile. I came across the EX59 with P90s. I didn't have a guitar with P90s but wanted one as well so figured this would fit the bill. Couldn't really justify having a custom one built and I had a coupon for the holidays, so I am the proud owner of a D'Angelico EX-59!!
Sound
Very resonant with a minimal matte finish that adds to the sound qualities (I believe).Awesome for those full velvety jazz chords but with the P90s and a touch of the tone knob, a sparkly twang. Through a Fender Twin Reverb, this guitar sings. Attack the strings a bit harder and get plenty of rockabilly attitude. Hit a bit of boost and get some Pete Townsend power chords. Very responsive and dynamic to the touch!
Features
The pickups are great! Plenty of bite and articulation. The hardware adds to the whole vibe from the trapeze tailpiece to the art deco Grover tuning machines. No problems getting it in tune and staying in tune.
Ease of Use
Extremely playable. Arrived set up. Easy to change strings. I tweaked the truss rod slightly with no issues. It is plug and play!
Quality
This guitar is impeccable. Solid construction. No weird vibrations or rattles. The headstock is absolutely gorgeous and the detail of the binding is perfect all the way into the neck joint! It is custom quality at more than half the price. Name brand Grover tuners. This guitar is a lifer.
Value
Of course I used the coupon I had! The price is a bit higher than some of the other import guitars, but none had the same class and quality in my opinion. When considering some of the cheaper options, I figured eventually I would be throwing money away on getting two mediocre guitars that I would grow tired of. Definitely a better investment in my opinion!
Manufacturer Support
I didn't have any reason to contact D'Angelico directly. But i did check their website and found everything I needed to know.
The Wow Factor
There aren't too many guitars in this price range that have this much Wow Factor. I think D'Angelico has cornered the market on Wow Factor! A good look up close and you will know what I mean. Then play it... and you will have that poetic grin on your face.

"Amazing"

Once you play this guitar you will be sold. I mean it. This thing plays and sounds like a guitar well into the $2500+ price range. The P90's sound great, and have a little bit of bite to them, a feature I personally adore. This guitar shines in a jazz setting but can also play other styles. Despite the hollow-body, I have yet to discover any feedback or hum, even with a lot of distortion, a rare feature in archtops. Do yourself a favor and get one of these, you can thank me later.
