"Great Guitar, but one expensive paint job"
Verified Purchaser
zZounds has verified that this reviewer purchased this specific product from us.
I've already order two more guitars. (but, that is my sickness :) )
Sound
the sound is very nice. good sustain. The tone is a bit limited due to having just the one pickup.
Features
I like the D tuna and Floyd Rose
Quality
The truss rod insert on the back of the neck is not flush with the neck. This does not affect performance, but for $2,639 I would expect much better quality. The finish and everything else seems to be good.
Value
Great guitar, but way over priced in my opinion. I think you are basically paying $1,000 for the Eddie Van Halen paint job, which you could do yourself.

"The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly"
I will probly never get rid of this guitar, but it will not always be my primary Ax. Just remember...BBD. There will always be a Bigger Better Deal.
Sound
I am a HUGE VH fan, especialy the earier DLR era, so naturaly I couldn't wait to buy this(blk/ylw). I rated it an 8 becase though I have not played any guitars that sound as nice, I am sure they exhist. I play through a TSL100 head with 2 Peavey 4x12 cabs. I use the EVH Phase 90, a BOSS Flanger, and the Bad Horsie 2 for Wah. No distortion pedals. I play alot of VH covers at home and alot of heavy metal in the band I am in. This guitar sounds great for both, as it has a cleanly defined sound and tone and a nice bottom end for metal. However, even the best guitar in the world will sound like crap through a crappy rig, so invest your money wisely and get a nice stack.
Features
The features left something to be desired as far as quantity. Quality, however, is very present. Though it only has 1 humbucking pick-up, the one it has does sound beautiful. The Floyd Rose with D-Tuna is awesome as well for switching back and forth between songs, or even during a song. I love the maple fretboard and I always try to get maple fretboards on all my guitars. I wish it had a neck pick-up and/or a tone knob.
Quality
I think that this product is made of great materials. The neck feels great, as does the weight of the guitar. However, the clear coat seems to be fragile. I have had mine for about six months and am VERY careful with it, yet I have found to identical blemishes on the bottom wing. They resemble the effect you get if you hit a plexiglass window with a hammer just light enough to not break the glass. I think the hardware of the guitar will last for years to come, but I fear the clear coat may be short lived.
Value
The price is a bit high even for a collectors piece such as this. If it had a nekc humbucker and the usual assortment ov volume and tone knobs, it would be much more valuable in my opinion. The guitar costs much more than your average Charvel San Dimas, which is really all this is, except your average San Dimas has to pick-ups.
The Wow Factor
This guitar has alot of "sex appeal" as you say. but only for a real VH fan and/or collector. If you are not a fan, then this is just an overpriced San Dimas with half the features and a funky paint scheme.

"the EVH guitar let me down"
I chose this because I collect unusual guitars with graphics and I am a big vanhalen fan but I wish I would have been able to see and play before purchasing it. The quality just isn't here on this one. Too bad.
Sound
The tone and sound are there in regards to the vanhalen style sound.
Features
Components are as they are, one pick up, one locking tremlo system. Nothing fancy about this one.
Quality
Doesn't appear to have had any real time or thought put into the production of this. Low end in general, except for the Floyd Rose.
Value
Inflated price. I feel your paying for the name only- I've played low end Fenders that played just as well.
Manufacturer Support
No
The Wow Factor
Graphics are the only appeal and their not all that great.

"Play and View before you Buy!"
Features
No allen wrench was included with the Floyd Rose, wrong tool for the trust rod. The least useful feature is that you cannot access the trust rod unless you take off the neck. Very poor design for this era, we're not in the 1950's anymore. Taking off the neck to adjust the trust rod is not the correct way to make adjustments. The pickup was good, the Floyd Rose sits on the guitar body and will cause damage to the finish after a period of use. It is also so stiff it to use the bar that you almost need two hands to do a dive.
Quality
The product is of poor quality. At least the one I purchased. (Red, Black, White), the hardest to get, the longest to wait for, and was the biggest dissapointment to date. The finish has making marks all over it. You can see the black lines through the red paint, manufacturer states this is normal? Normal for $2600 guitar!? The neck is of poor quality. Glue marks all over the frets from fret #14 to #21. I didn't keep it long enough to see if it would last. Had it two days, took 30 minutes to evaluate that this was the worst purchase out of 44 plus Jackon/Charvel guitars in my collection. Hard to believe that any artist would have stamped their name on this one. Very disappointing. Buyer
