"natural sound"

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
this mic is mid-low dominant... it has a lack luster sound with no high end sparkle as it takes a dip around 5k as shown in its frequency response chart ... this eliminates any sibilant or harshness issues... its great for spoken word narration... if your voice is thin or high or shrill, it will add fullness and smoothness to your voice... for singing- it seems to lag behind in its response to the changing frequencies in my voice, i only noticed this when i compared it to vocal mics that are designed for singing... ive owned 3 of these mics, because of their age, i scraped out the gooy dry rot pad in the battery compartment and replaced it with a piece of sponge, i also replaced the two 9volt cube batteries with rechargeable lithium batteries, doing this was easy as you only have to remove a couple of small philip screws. the housing is metal and its a heavy microphone

"Insanely Versatile"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I can see myself purchaing a few more of these as well as its big brother the e300. I am totally sold on these.
Sound
This mic sounds excellent. I never had a mic that really replicated the true sound of hand percussion. This mic accurately captures both the attack and the tone of hand percussion. This isn't its only area of excellence, however. I have used it successfully on stage and in the studio on piano, acoustic guitar, snare-side, hi hats, drum overheads, horns, winds, strings, choir, and vocals.
Features
It has a -20dB pad and a low-frequency roll off. These are second to none as far as reliability and function. I wish it had a more functional stand adapter. The shape of the mic and the mounting used makes boom stands a must.
Quality
Second to none. We have four and each have been though the gauntlet and keep on going. The material used are the highest quality. No plastic here!
Value
Worth every penny. Less versatile mics cost hundreds more. AKG makes a similar microphone that sells for close to $1000.
Manufacturer Support
I have only spoken with CAD once to inquire about shock mounting. They were helpful and courteous. In many years of ownership, I've never had a problem that I needed support with. I don't suspect I will have many issues with these down the road either.
The Wow Factor
The gold grill and robust materials makes this mic look like a very high quality piece of equipment. Even the older model with the black grill looks sleek and sexy.
