I had a PA rig with a pair of Carvin cabinets with 12's, and an amp/mixer combo that weighed at least 25 pounds by itself. Since I didn't need quite that much of volume (smaller venues), I bought the first gen Bose S1 Pro. I was blown away with a sub-20lb rig that sounded great using guitar and vocals. When the S1 Pro Plus came out, I bought one, mainly for the XLR and Instrument wireless transmitters. Those were awesome for simple connections with my guitar, using "insert mode" with a multi effects. The volume and sound quality was plenty - bass included - for my small venue gigs. I finally bought a second to be prepared for smaller outdoor gigs. The Bose Connect app makes it simple to connect both speakers and tweak your sound. For a bigger venue, I might need to add a sub, but I haven't been disappointed yet.

I play acoustic guitar and sing. Over the years I have tried many small powered speakers and acoustic guitar amps. At least two dozen of these past systems all had plus and minus factors. This newer Bose system definitely has more plus factors then most past PA speakers and amps I have tried. The unit sounds great on vocals and decent on acoustic guitar. The unit does not have a lot of power but enough for small venues and possibly medium sized venues if not noisy back grounds or outdoors. This speaker seems very well made, attractive and very light and small. I would recommend this speaker unless you are buying one and expecting loud like a QSC K8. The QSC is definitely louder and has wider dispersion of sound.

"Good sound but not great quality"

I purchased, owned and used the previous version (S1 Pro's) for many years. Great units. I used them for hundreds of solo, duo and trio gigs as wireless mains and even with full bands as wireless wedges. The only negative I'd say about the first gen units were the 1/4" output (no xlr), and the fact that the EQ knobs would sometimes fall out and/or be cranked and adjusted from preferred settings after transporting. When the S1 Pro+ came out, I figured I'd upgrade to these. I thought the multifunction, all-in-one buttons could solve the eq setting after transporting issues, as its a digital knob that would only be adjusted when the units were powered on. These multifunction knobs spin to adjust settings and also require that you press in the button to jump to different settings like vol/treb/bass/reverb and advanced menu settings. So obviously, having them working is important. on My 2 new S1 Pro+ units, these knobs didnt even last a year. 2 on one unit and 1 on another no longer allow me to press in the button. Only allowing a spin adjustment to the volume since i cant toggle through the other settings. I sent one back to Bose and they replaced the inlay, I/O panel and the PCB Assembly. They have a 2 year mfg warranty so thats nice, but im still afraid the issue is going to happen again and I will have to pay next time if not under warranty. Besides that I really love these units and get many compliments on my sound and minimal footprint at my gigs. So if you buy these, make sure you protect these knobs at all costs. I built custom foam padded crates to cover and protect them when transporting to hopefully prevent this from happening again.

Well built, feels solid, easy controls, pretty loud considering it's size. BUT... Bass quality is only good if you are listening to it at a low volume. The moment you turn the volume up, it sounds like a cheap speaker.

Musical Background:

Avid listener. I own, QSC (12's), EV (12's & 15's), JBL (18" Subs & the party box)
