Several different settings to "warm up" even the coldest sounding piezo pickup. Connected a Shure SM-58 to it and WOW! Three different "subtle" power enhancements make a HUGE difference when recording. Ran it through a small 15watt amplifier and it gave once "tin" sounding projection a clear, crisp brightness without harsh hissing. When recording; be aware that you may need to add a compressor to it. While the warmth and boost to sound is really nice, it clips quite easily.

"Great Preamp"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars

The MIC800 is a great little pre-amp. It works great for me with my AT mic. The V/U meter is very nice to have; you can easily tell if you need to be a little closer or farther away from the mic by watching the meter. The presets work well. They each have subtle differences to tailor your mic sound. There's no tubes to replace in this unit, but the "warm" setting works very well. This unit really improved the sound of my mic and I highly recommend it.

"Decent For The Price"

I purchased this unit as a way to boost/warm up the signal going into my recording gear. Seems to help a bit. Don't expect a tremendous change in quality of sound, but it adds a little meat and color if that's what you're looking for. Can be a little noisy at times.
