I have DOZENS of sets of 'cans... I've collected many over the years for just recording bands, thier simultaneous playback feeds, etc, - 6pr of AKG K-240, 5pr of AT M50H so they all listeners get the exact same playback of the mix... But WOW, jsut WOW*** These Avantone 'cans are *PURE, effin' PLEASURE*!!! These 'cans are so subtle, yet so revealing for mixing & pleasure listening it's hard to describe. They don't "fatigue" my ears, or my head! They show you EVERY little mix change immediately. If you like to use them as audio tools, they are awesome. If you use them to Just_Enjoy_your_favorite_MUSIC; they are awesome! They let you hear all the small details & techniques the artists used to create the masterpieces you love! These and the Neumann NDH-20's are my favorites, beyond doubt. I have Sennheiser, Koss, A/T, AKG, DROP 4XX, Hi-Fi Man, TASCAM, Shure, Philips, ad nauseum... These are made in U.S.A., and are built like a brick (you know what)! Highest Recommendation!!!!!!

These things are absolutely stunning. I'm a hobbyist at best in hi-fi audio but in pro audio I'm pretty well-educated and have been a working producer for a number of years. I've used a lot of equipment and more sets of cans specifically than I care to remember. But never before have I had such an absolute paradigm shift from the first listen on a new piece of gear. These cans are absolutely uncompromising. The image is stellar, the low end is as un-hyped as they come while still being incredibly pleasant to listen to. And they do not tell lies. If a tone is well-recorded, it will absolutely shine in these things. If a tone is even a little less than up-to-par, it will absolutely fall apart in these things. I'm hearing effects (and defects) I've never noticed before in recordings I've listened critically to hundreds of times. I cannot possibly recommend these highly enough, they punch FAR above their price point.

I really like these headphones. They are heavy but I find them comfortable. The build seems solid too. Amazing sound from bottom to top with an open and airy soundstage.

If I were to only rate these headphones based on sound quality, it would be a perfect score. They have a great flat response that's perfect for mixing as well as a wonderful soundstage. They're planar so they have a tight bass response as well. However, the build quality on these things are atrocious. Immediately out of the box, one of the two provided cables was dead. Additionally, the left ear cup's plug was dead, limiting me to using the right ear cup's plug. Even still, when using the 1/8 to 1/4 adapter on my interface, I was having intermittent audio issues. It worked perfectly when I did not touch it. My interface worked perfectly with my other headphones and 1/8 to 1/4 adapter (which is threaded, so it doesn't work with these things).At this point, I should have returned them and got a refund, but I thought they sounded great so I kept using them. Today, I unplugged the adapter only to find that the tip had broken off inside of my interface. After very carefully removing the tip, the right channel on my interface is now dead.As much as I like the sound, I will not be recommending these headphones to anybody unless their QC levels up drastically.

I posted a review of the same title a few days ago and must update it to say manufacturer's support is fantastic. They took my critique in stride after I explained my issue to them. A new set is being sent to me shortly. Can't ask for better than that.

I'm going to give as honest a review as I can. Right off let me say, the only issue I have with these 'phones is the soft inner band is their Achilles heel. Due to the weight of the driver element/enclosures, if you pick them up at a point near where they attach, they will break. I've not had mine 6 months yet and it just happened yesterday. They are bulky and heavy, but once on your head they are remarkably comfortable and the sound is fabulous...lacking in false resonance in the bass and totally uncolored with no stridency in the upper range. The overall 4 is due to the headband issue and I have not yet heard from their customer support team as I just wrote to them prior to this review. I've owned cheap 'phones, middle price and all types except electrostatic from Koss, Sennheiser, Audio Technica including one of their older electret models.
