In a nutshell what you hear in these is exactly what you get in the real world. These cans sound just like my monitoring set up which means I can confidently mix in my headphones without much concern for how it will translate to my speakers or other set ups. I also have several different headphones including 7506, Audio Technica MTH-50x and some JBL high end consumer headphones. The Avantones are by far the most accurate. Just be advised that these are rather large headphones. I personally wouldn't wear them casually to listen to music at home or on the go. These are most definitely studio headphones! Highly recommended.

Man,these are amazing. There's plenty of good sounding cans below $200 but none like these. They are big and I still forget I am wearing them;they sound so...real. You can dial in a sweet spot to match your near-fields and will forget you're listening to cans, not actual monitors. They come with two cables,a nice bag, plus a quality box to store them in. I always wanted a second pair, even though I don't need them yet. At this price,it's easy to add that second set and feel really good about the investment. People comment on their size but everyone likes what they hear when they get cranked. A special set of cans, well worth the dough!
Sound
I have been using a set for over 2 years and they still look new and sound better by the day. Got a second pair for clients.

I had been using a pair of Sennheiser HD 280 PRO's and I was having issues with the sound in the phones being way different than what I can hear on my stereo, and in my car, not to mention my monitors. I ordered a set of these and The sound is killer! I've got them matched closely to my monitors, and I can now hear where the problem areas are in my mix CLEARLY! Very good definition, very good studio headphones.

"Sound great but major design flaw"

Initially, I loved these. They are flat, the stereo field is detailed and the switch between mono and stereo is incredibly useful. My mixes improved significantly. Unfortunately, the detachable cable that goes into the left speaker is horribly designed. It hangs down and rubs on the shoulders. This causes the 1/8" plug to move and interrupt the signal to the speaker. It causes static. At first I thought is coming from my mixes as digital noise but then I narrowed the noise to the cable. Really bummed out. I'm reaching out to Avantone but I'm not really sure how they can fix this. A new pair will most likely do the same.

"Avoid these headphones"

The jack on the headphone is shorting out. When I try to tighten the jack fastener it just keeps spinning. I'm afraid it's going to break the internal wires. These headphones have very little use, maybe 7 hours. They are like brand new. Nothing is more frustrating than trying to record a guitar track and the left side keeps cutting out. Don't buy this garbage.
