"Audix Drum Mics Overall The Best"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars

I expect to keep this set until I'm done using it and at this point if it was lost or stolen I'd buy exactly the same again. It's better than just "bang for the buck" mentality. I've been a tech since 1983 and a road musician for 15 years befor that. Ive worked every type of show from acoustic solo guitar/vocal to 80 piece Philharmonic orchestra and every type of live show in between. I've used 421's (great sound/terrible clip) Still use RE27's but for drums it's f series for my B rig and D series for my A rig.In general I like everything about the product execpt for the cheaper clips. The D series clips are great ..hard rubber instead of hard plastic that breaks.
Sound
while the sm57 was my mic of choice for snare(live sound reinforcement)upon replacing it with the f10 I found a new sense of depth and fullness that was missing from the 57 and definately lost the hi-hat bleed. The only mic I would consider a step up (in a reasonable price range) would be the Audix D1.
Features
The built in "clips" are convenient for the f 10's and 12 but you need to take your time in set up to avoid possible cross threading or stripping. The plactic clips for the f15's (pencil condensers)could be heavier but so far no problem.
Ease of Use
I find the set up very simple ...want more bass aim mic closer to rim want more attack ...aim a stick impact point..or vary in between to achieve your sound..No brainer.
Quality
The casings are not in the same league with the D series but they can take a hit (more than once) and keep on working...I really can't say that about the eight or nine 57's I have sitting in a box in my garage.
Value
I've yet to see a kit in this price range (or even $100 more) that even comes close to the performance and reliability.
Manufacturer Support
I have not had to deal with audix concerning the F series mics but I did have an older large diaphragm condenser that was years out of warrantyn that went dead and they swapped me a new one with warranty at a ridiculous price and in a very timely manner. Probably one of the best companies I've ever had to deal with.
The Wow Factor
Form follows function. I does the job very well and is not obtrusive. Yes it's not the "classy/flassy" look of an RE 20/27 or a Senn. 421 but for the weekend warrior that want a dependable no hassle set up and good to great sound (depending on your system and your tech) and not have to come up with the extra coin of a shure kit. In my world thats as sexy as 36-24-36.

"What do you want for $300?"

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars

I am sure that I will upgrade at some point but these were an excelent start on a budget. I have been playing drums on a pro level for 30 years, and a live and studio engineer for decades. Really good bang for the buck. I would give them a nine if the kick mic was better.
Sound
These are really solid reliable drum mics. I have used them live and in the studio for over two years. They are flat sounding and reasonably accurate sounding. the condensors for the overheads are the real buy here. The kick mic is a bit of a joke, but if you add a nice kick mic and a good hi hat mic, then you can use the kick mic for the floor tom where it is more than adequate. Are they great sounding? Of course not... they cost $300
Features
I like the integrated clips on the dynamics, and I pretend that the clips for the condensors are integrated. Frankly I am pretty sure that if you take the mics in and out of the clips very many times they will break.
Ease of Use
You can, really mess these up. They are very even in response. Not full, but the good news for a novice is that you are not going to have all kinds of rumble or other unwanted artifacts. They could have a tighter pattern, the blead between drums is a littl much even for a project studio.
Quality
Very solid build but the sound... well it is $300 for 6 mics. Really what do you expect.
Value
Are you kidding me... I can't beleive that anyone could possibly gripe about these things. For the money the condensors and the case alone aren't bad
Manufacturer Support
Cant really say I haven't needed it
The Wow Factor
Not sexy, but reliable

I'm going to replace the overheads (F15's) and the Kick (F12), but I think I might keep the F10's for awhile.. They do their job well.
Sound
I've had this pack now for 2 years, and have used it at least weekly. I use the F15's for overheads, and they do okay. For the price, they do quite well. The other F10's are used on my toms, and I've got the F12 on my kick. The kick can be EQ'ed to sound alright, but is really lacking in punch. The F10's are pretty darned good sounding on toms. Overall, for the price, I think it's a great deal.
Features
Nothing too great. Mics are mics, and they come with clips (or don't need em'). No padding, or switches...
Ease of Use
Just plug em' in and play - I rated 6 because the kick mic has a pretty narrow sweet spot requirement. Gotta fiddle with it to get the best sound. The F15s are incredibly bright, too... Placement is paramount.
Quality
Built quite sturdy, as far as I can tell. None of them have broke on me, so that's good. The F10's have been hit with drumsticks a few times, and they keep on tickin'.
Value
Friggin' amazing deal, considering the price.
Manufacturer Support
no idea. Never had to call them.
The Wow Factor
Not very sexy. Does its job very well, and is value-priced. If ya want sexy, you're gonna pay for it.

Sound
I use the two f15's for overhead and dthey sound okay on the cymbols. The f10's are flat and the f12 kick drum mic just plain sucks.
Value
I'm taking it back and getting an AKG D112 and a couple of SM57's. For $300 I expected a lot more out of this set.

"Decent Mics"

Overall: 3.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Sound
Kick Mic adds that boxy 300 hz and sounds un-developed. Tom Mics are decent but suffer from lots of bleed, even with good placement. Overall a good start
Features
No clips (dont but the audix clips theyre horrible) but built solid.
Ease of Use
Again, these mics suffer from lots of bleed. The tom mics pick up way too much above 10k
Quality
Solid mics, ok sound
Value
A couple of 57s and pencil condensers would be better
Manufacturer Support
Never needed it
The Wow Factor
Id rather have a blue bottle...
