"About the Bad review"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars

There is a bad review that states that in winter the guitar warped because it was so dry blaming on the guitar. This was the fact of the owner not the guitar. Solid guitars need humidified in winter. The buyer must not have realized this. They were happy with it till it dried out. Any solid wood guitar would have acted the same.

I’ve had this for over a year and it still is wonderful. I drive a truck and take it everywhere with me and I’ve not ever had a problem what so ever. I never had it set up and it still plays great just like new, although I’ve tweeked the truss rod a few times. It’s a well built guitar and an absolute quality instrument regardless of price.

I am simply amazed at the sound and playability of this guitar. It is the best-sounding guitar I have owned for a long time, sounding very much like a D18 or its close clones. I had a problem with the truss rod not rotating when it first came, it wouldn't move at all. I could see that it needed an adjustment so the action would be low enough. I zzounds about ready to send it back but went on the net and read some things. I decided to detune it and see if I could get it to rotate. It did. I guess some don't want to turn when new and in standard tune. This guitar punches way above it's price tag and puts my Yamaha and Epi Frontier to shame in sound. They just hang thier headstocks in shame knowing theres a new kid in town.

First of all, zZounds is an awesome place to buy from. This is my 3rd guitar from them and won’t be the last. Anyway, the md60bg is a very nice guitar with nice appointments. It has a very balanced tone but has deep bass. I’m not sure if you can find a better acoustic guitar for under a grand and I’ve owned somewhere around 30 that fall in that category.

I have a couple of high end dreadnoughts. A Bedell Coffee House, the original all wood Taylor 214 (not high end but comparable) a Martin D-16GT… and this inexpensive Alvarez MD60BG holds up to any of them right out of the box, if not better. I haven’t even put Elixers on it or played it more than a couple of days and it’s literally perfect. It’s definitely the loudest guitar I’ve played yet, but still holds great balance and intonation. Aesthetically it’s beautiful. The neck is silky smooth and fast. I love the 1 3/4 bone nut because I have huge fingers. No buzzing anywhere on any note. Blues sound like blues and for bluegrass it’s a true banjo killer. I 1000% recommend this guitar, and I thought I would never endorse a Chinese guitar. I’ve been playing for 40+ years and this is one of my favorite acoustics I’ve ever owned.

I thought I’d give this a shot after reading some reviews. Wow, the quality of the build is mind blowing for the price. The tone is what is amazing though super clear mids and bright. If you want a great solid wood under $1000 you can’t go wrong.

I was so happy to get this guitar and play it right out of the box with no sign of any problems! The sound is above my expectations. The string action was perfect and they make sure it is on every guitar Alvarez makes before it leaves the factory! Better than my Blueridge BR 140 that I thought was perfect. You won't go wrong with this guitar's sound and workmanship! Also, you get an Alvarez Gig bag that is better than a hard shell case for free!

"Incredible at any price"

Let me first say that zZounds was great as always! Great price, fast shipping and pay as you play rules! So I have had my sights set on a D-18 for quite a while now, but was holding off until the time was right, but I needed an inexpensive acoustic since I sold my last one. I was looking at Yamahas (always a fan of them) and was going to just get a low end FG because they are great guitars. Somewhere I came across a review of the Alvarez MD60. It checked all the boxes... Solid Mahogany, solid Spruce top, dreadnaught... So I watched some more reviews and even saw where some Bluegrass players were giving it props. So I pulled the trigger, what do I have to lose?I have owned and played much more expensive guitars and will say that this is an incredible guitar at any price. It is a cannon, but has superb dynamics and great tone for days. Play loud and hard, play quiet and soft and all the notes are defined, no mush. Playability is fantastic as well. Every time I pick it up I'm just blown away by what a great guitar it is. I can't believe you can get this much guitar for this price. It looks like this guitar has finally ended my search for a keeper (after many, many years), and saved me a couple of grand to boot. Alvarez knocked it out of the park with this one. My next acoustic will probably be the MF60 for an OM sized guitar.Thank you Alvarez and thank you zZounds!
Sound
Sounds like a traditional mahogany/spruce dreadnaught should. Amazing!
Features
Mahogany and spruce, a match made in heaven.
Ease of Use
Incredibly dynamic instrument. Loud as a cannon or whisper quiet, it sounds fantastic!
Quality
So far the quality seems to match everything else with the guitar, which is outstanding.
Value
I don't want to give them any ideas, but this guitar plays and sounds like a guitar 3x it's price point.
Manufacturer Support
Have not dealt with Alvarez, so no comment.
The Wow Factor
Alvarez has won me over.

I bought this from zZounds and i couldn't be happier with my purchase..The guitar has tone galore and the notes ring on longer than three other brands i bought and returned, yamaha, washburn, takimine, These guitars are Torrifiied from the factory so they are stronger for the humidity and have a Pre-aged quality to them..I see the other reviews that had problems..zZounds handles returns fair and they help you get what you need done..My guitar stays in the case with a humidifier when not used although i could leave it out and i,m sure it would be fine..just not on extreme weather condition days..too dry or too humid..I have recorded this guitar..sounds fantastic..played in a live band with it with a pickup sounded great

Just got mine yesterday. I have not been playing for a while so I am not in guitar playing shape. I'm 64 and have been playing since 1970. This is my second Alvarez, first one I got in 1976. I know it's made in China but it is a good guitar. Can't find any flaws. I am enjoying it.

I received my guitar several months ago and wanted to wait a while to review my purchase. After spending considerable time playing this beauty of a guitar I'm still completely amazed by it... It plays wonderfully and the sound that it produces is great, it's got loads of sustain and projects loud and clear sound either when lightly picking or when really pounding the strings.

I have always owned guitars that had rosewood back & sides, because of the really strong bass response. When I bought this guitar, I was blown away with how good the tone was right out of the box. The setup was very good, the action was just right. My only complaint would be the tuning machines. The mounting screws came loose on the back of the headstock, and they would not tighten back up completely. I had to fill in the screw holes with glue to get the tuning machines to stay tight. Otherwise I've never had a problem.I'd rate it a 4.5 out of 5. And I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.

"Weather Damaged in Storage!"

Overall: 0.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
The one I ordered arrived dry as a bone, the neck humped and warped, the paint shrunk, the top bellied down, a disappointment out of the box. I put a D'Addario Emergency HumidPak in it to see if it would recover, but the guitar is so weather damaged, the screws for the tuners are falling out. The warehouse is not using any effective climate control whatsoever. This guitar shows signs of severe heating and cooling well out of acoustic guitar storage temps and humidity. It's a real nice guitar, but it's been ruined by negligence at the warehouse as this is not the first guitar I've purchased that came through the same warehouses with the same exact type of weather damage. What a shame. What a waste of time and money. What a cheat turning off climate control and selling guitars for new that are weather damaged -- this one was inspected too, it's got the sticker on it. ...inspected, thrown in a box with no humid pack and no climate control, that's a huge problem guys and gals! It's time for the manufacturers to pull their guitars from warehouses like these that try and cheat the customer by turning off climate control. I'd recommend the Alvarez but not from a warehouse that turns off climate control to cheat the customer. If the exchange is weather damaged too, we've got a problem! And save yourself the time and money, the HumidPak Emergency kit doesn't work on a guitar this badly weather damaged!

I purchased mine in November and about the middle of December the neck and top warped, I dropped it off at a repair shop and was told it was severely dehydrated and was told it's a common problem with Alvarez... Up until these issues it was an amazing guitar... I've owned it since November and since the beginning of January its been in a repair shop and now at the Alvarez service center... Alvarez is denying that the neck is warped so I can look forward to sending it back to my local repair shop when I get it back, on my dime... It was great while it lasted...

I got this guitar for a little over one year and the bridge started to lift so I contacted Alverez and they wanted me to pay shipping to St. Louis so they could fix the problem. I decided since it was such an easy fix I have my luthier Repair and reglue the bridge. What he found was that the bridge for the guitar was actually attached to the guitar with double sided TAPE.I contacted Alverez and their parent company/distributor St. Louis guitar company but have not received an email explaining why they attach the bridge to the top of the guitar like this. It was also evident that this guitar does not get set up in St. Louis as I have read they do. I am paying for this repair my self and then will sell the guitar. I would not recommend this instrument OR Alvarez
