"Awesome Multipad"

As a well rounded percussionist, this multipad has exceeded my expectations. It is the complete multipad as it will do anything and basically has everything you need. I love the looping function. The sounds are very real. Completely satisfied and has not failed me.

There are many reviews touting all the positive features of this unit, and I won't deny any of them. However I feel Alesis has missed the mark for an even wider audience due to the omission of a couple of key features (at least to me). Regarding the Loop recorder, there is no way to quantize your performance, which means if you are not spot-on, your loop suffers. There is also no Undo function which is a standard feature an pretty much any looper on the market. If you flub an overdub, you have to erase the loop and start all over....NOT good for live performance looping. And finally, there is no way to begin recording without having to listen to a one bar count-in. For live performance it is much easier to be able to arm and start recording by striking a pad when you are ready to begin. Being that this is the 2020's and that loop beat-matching has been available in software instruments (such as Ableton Live), I am really bummed that you cannot beat-match sample loops to the given clock BPM. This feature alone would make this unit THE next generation of sample pad and a real plus for drummers/producers (Ableton in a Box!)And my final gripe, there is not way to tempo sync effects such as delay time. Here again, this feature would make this so much more useful in modern live music production and performance. Hoping Alesis will consider adding any/all of these features in future Firmware updates. Until then, it's basically a very cool way to not have to cart around all your acoustic percussion instruments.

"Good hardware. Poor firmware. Many functions don't work"

Good hardware. Poor firmware. Many functions don't work or don't work poorly. Hi Hat, external triggers, metronome, looper all have problems. No method to organize or export anything you record. Product has been out over a year and is in bad need or an update, but calls to tech support net you acknowledgement of problems but no indication of when or if they will be fixed.

Overall, this is a very useful studio appliance. Despite many reviews, I have had no crosstalk problems. It does what it is supposed to as a trigger. The firmware, not so much. Loading your own samples is possible, with as number of caveats:1) you won't be able to use a USB Flash drive larger than 4GB2) Loading more than one sample is difficult, as the interface just plain sucks3) plugging and unplugging the USB drive is tiresomeThe unit seems fairly well built, but I probably wouldn't take it one the road. Looking back, I would probably spend a few extra bucks to get the Roland SPD-SX. Manufacturer support is much better with Roland.
