"Love the D112, Hate the C418's and C419..."

I will probably sell the smaller mics but keep the D112
Sound
The D112 sounds awesome but the other mics that come with this are garbage for recording toms and snare, they sould very very high pitched due to the midbass roll-off. I am using them to mic my cymbals now and they sound great on the cymbals so I guess it is not a totall loss for me. I bought sm57's for the toms and snare to replace.
Features
I wish they used a thicker cable with these guys, cable is super thin and super long and can be tripped over easily due to being practically invisable against dark floor or carpet. I wish they did not even have attached cables. I like to choose my own. I might cut them down to shorten them.
Quality
Look pretty durable, but we will see.
Value
The D112 is worth it but the rest... Well save your money and buy sm57's. SM57s sound a lot better.(more bass and mids)
Manufacturer Support
N/A haven't had to call them.
The Wow Factor
I have them, and am very sad. It was a poor purchase but I am making due. Using the mics in a way that they were not intended (using on cymbals clipping to cymbal wing nut)

"Really good package for live perfomance"
My opinion - this is one of the best choices for live applications, but I am also going to check them out in the project studio
Sound
A couple of days ago I used this kit on stage for miking up YAMAHA BIRCH CUSTOM - sound was totally NATURAL, fat and clear, with remarkable sustain. C418 of course are not "plug and play" mics, but there was not big deal to equalize them properly. Feedback resistance is GREAT !!!
Features
I wish these mics had thicker cables, but, frankly, keeping in mind their size (I mean C418-419), it is hardly possible...
Quality
So far I do not foresee any concerns, but micro size requires extra care, though. Clips made very tough, absolutely no problems during setup\perfomance.
Value
bearing in mind RRP from AKG - not bad good value for money at all
Manufacturer Support
no need to contact them yet
The Wow Factor
no plans to get rid of them

"Professional live sound and easy to set up."
Sound
With careful positioning and a little equalization the micro mics do a fantastic job on my Premier Series Gen-X. Natural sound with plenty of bottom end. Be careful not to hit them though... they will break.

"AKG READ B4 U BUY !"
I wish AKG would tell the customer that this item is not suitable for a giging drummer
Features
The small micro heads are unabtrusive and don't get in the way
I wish the cable was much thicker
Quality
Since the warranty ran out in Oct 2008 i have had nothing but trouble AKG lets come clean with the customer and let them know this product is only suitable for studio or residential work ,not designed for giging
The cable is to thin causing the copper wire to brake each time you fold it back into the case. I cannot be the only one on the planet with this problem !
Manufacturer Support
I have contacted AKG Dealership in UK and e-mailed them also had no reply. I have had repairs done on a few occations, out off 4 mics i have 2 working at the moment

"Stay clear"
These don't work as advertised. I am not happy with them or the service I received from AKg regarding their failure.
Sound
The sound is brittle on drums
Quality
See above. these mics are not good for drums. Mine have failed twice in less than twelve uses.
All four of them have gone bad. there have been no stick strikes or abuse to them.
Value
Save your money and buy something better.
Manufacturer Support
AKG is not accepting responsibility for the problems with the diaphragms.

"Clip ons have gotten unjustfied bad rap."
I would buy these again. They sound very natural and good with some placement and eq work. If you don't want to take the time to do this, get something else, because these mics will not settle for haste and unattention to detail.
Sound
Everyone is right about he beta mic, it is the best hands down. However, the clip ons work good also. They can be a little bright and don't pass on the bass as well, but, with some equalization they sound really good. They give a natural response with some attention. These are not point and go mics, but with about 5 minutes care, they will sound good.
Features
The fact that the clip ons are condensers is a big plus, unless you are only playing at one loud level. The mic cords are very thin and combersom, but they are quick to mount with the clips. You do have to place the mic diaphram almost right on the drum though.
Quality
I have been setting these up and using them over 100 times over the last two years (they are setup and used atleast once a week) and I have only had one of the clip ons go out. But with a touch of micr soldering I was back in business.
