"Great all around condenser"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars

Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
Sound
Not much on features but frankly doesn't need them. The roll off switch is a nice touch but I rarely use it. I love it with a decent pre on acoustic guitar. But it sounds great on most vocals. If you can only have two mics in your home studio this and an SM 57 and you are golden. I have used it for live vocals and as an ambient mic for a dramatic reading. You name it. I am about to try it on a guitar cab and see if it can handle the SPLs. It sucked on a kick (couldn’t handle the SPLs) but is fine on hats.
Ease of Use
As with any mic, how you address the source is importand but not nearly as important and most mics
Quality
I have had it for years and it has been very reliable.
Manufacturer Support
Good news... no experience with support cause it don't break
The Wow Factor
I wish I had another.

"It ain't a Neuman, but it sure beats the pants off 98 percent of the Chinese specials I see people bragging up."

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I have used the C series as part of my arsenal for years and as long as the quality and electronics hold up I am a happy camper. I have tinkered with a few of the Asian products and even the best of them have not convinced me that the Chinese get it.
Sound
The C3000B gets accused of being very brittle. I think if you use the wrong microphone for the wrong application you wont like it and might suggest that as the meat of the issue. The C3000B is much cleaner than 90 percent of the Chinese mics out there, but let a couple of guys jump on the cheap China mic bandwagon and all of a sudden everything form MXL to Studio Projects is getting cudos. If you have a friend who has engineered anything besides hip hop, pop, rock and five piece bands go check out his C3000B up against your favorite Asian Kmart microphone.
Features
The C3000 and B versions have been in and out of the market for years and I am betting we haven't seen the end of them. The kits cone in a variety of variations including stand mounts, shock mounts, cases, etc.
Ease of Use
This mic requires little EQ and on bright instruments arranged in varying distances the C3000B is very clean. I would not recommend the mic for fat sounding instruments or use the microphone to cheese up the high end on instruments that hang out in the lower registers
Quality
For most home and semi pro project studios AKG and AT get the prize. Although there are a few Asian microphones that are fair, perhaps respectable in the context of limited use microphones, I just don't think the Asians are there in terms of audio quality or consistency across a product line. However, the Asians have been very good about great cosmetics and convincing many to sacrifice their audio standards for the sake of looking cool in the studio. For me, I'll take a few of the beat up old classics, including the C3000's and 3000B's and make some pretty decent sound. I'll find other tools to use to impress the groupies *grin
Value
As the price of the C3000 series drops the mics represent a good value for the cost. Again, AKG seems to be a little lacking in being proactive where competitions is a factor. If AKG can work up a formula to keep the C series competitive against newer product they should do great. I am concerned about this trend of great manufacturers going to China for contemporary manufacturing. The quality is just not consistent over the ocean
Manufacturer Support
I have to say the #1 company in product support has to be RODE. AKG is good, but their inflated pricing in support (ie parts and accessories) is a little bit much. Anyone who thinks one of those plastic shock mounts is worth a hundred bucks ought to have his head examined. Thank God the Asians make decent cheap shockmounts, eh? I have had some AKG service and the turn around is not bad. However, they will cut you absolutely no slack when it comes to paying the bill. They think their work is gold and this is the one thing that really chips away at a solid reputation.
The Wow Factor
The C300B is not much on sex appeal and this is one thing that seems to hurt the product. I don't get why aspiring engineers think a mic is cool based on how pretty it looks - especially considering that a microphone is about audio and not about sleek and sexy. I hope to God Neuman never has to go there.

"This mic doesn't totally suck, but I would look around for other products before buying"

Overall: 3.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Overall, I would give this mic somewhere between a six and a seven. The features are good, but I will definately be purchasing a different mic to use, especially for vocals. This mic is too harsh and brittle sounding. I am not an expert on mics, so I will give them the benifit of the doubt that I may have had the positioning/settings incorrectly. I would not buy this mic if it got lost or stolen.
Sound
This mic sounds OK, but it does not sound very warm at all. I have used it to record vocals and horns mainly, and I have been fairly satisfied with the results, but I will be buying something else that sounds a little warmer.
Features
It has good features, but it would be nice if it came with a shockmount.
Quality
This mic seems very sturdy. Rough and rugged. I would trust it to use for live shows on the road.
Manufacturer Support
Never called for support. Didn't need it
The Wow Factor
I am nuetral about the look. I usually buy products for the features/reviews from other users. This mic looks ok, but very different from other mics I have seen.

"After examining several other focal microphones this was seems like a very romantic quality war on tasteful and professional mic"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I hope that a workout me for a long period of time! I don't know if that's any getting stolen, no fight to get stolen I would hope I would want to get the same product again.
Sound
A move that seems to have all the characteristics that I need a sound from vocalization studio microphone, and studio professional attitude. I think for the novice or even the summer professional vocalists that is a very substantial microphone, and I believe that it will give you many hours of pleasure and hopefully good sounds and according to recommend proud of!
Features
I like to shock mount a component, and a built in sunscreen which seems to be a real plus for microphone of this caliber no!
Ease of Use
I think I still have to use it to really find out how good sports were free but I think it will show positive output!.
Quality
From what I understand the quality is quite nice and just a little below the C 4000 and I'm looking forward to using it I hope the works fine for me in my studio!
Value
Yes I do believe it is.
Manufacturer Support
Not yet when I heard the support is pretty good will say?
The Wow Factor
I think it's a very hot looking microphone that the shock mount, and its futuristic design!

"Good Workhorse Mic"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
Try it with everything. If you are on a budget and need a "wonder mic", this works well. With EQ, lead vocals can sound good. I have no regrets about owning this product.
Sound
For a $300 microphone, it sounds good. Great for spoken word and back up vocals, but definately a bit too dark for lead vocals unless you are recording tracks for hip-hop. It records aocoustic guitars and percussion well. Also works great on hi-hats. Out of curiosity, I used it on a snare once, and it produced a pretty good "pop" sound.
Features
Bass roll-off switch is a usefull feature.
Quality
I used it at live shows, and it took a beating (not from me, I saw two amateur sound guys drop the thing because they didn't know how to use the shock absorber...boy did I rip them a new one).
Value
If you want a condenser that does everything, this is the mic. It records everything fairly well, but in my experience (I am NOT a professional, so take this with a grain of salt) the only drawback is that it doesn't have one specific thing that it records exceptionaly well.

"Great Sound-Great Price!!!"

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I use this mic for commercial voiceover and married with my symetrix528e, it gives me a high end studio sound for a low end price. In fact, it paid for itself in one session.Very nice product.
Sound
This mic is an audio mirror...if you don't like what you hear, you'll have to place the blame on something, or someone, else.
Quality
Well built, sturdy and it came with a nice road case
Value
You can't get more mic for the money in terms a quality of reproduction.

"Better than any other $300 mic."

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I'm a rocker so this mic isnt as usefull to me. gonna stick to the good ole sm57.
Sound
Neither warm nor bright. Blows the famous Shure 81 away when it comes to acoustic guitar. Did A/B comparisons of acoustic guitar recordings using mackie 824 monitors, the C3000B, and several other condensers in the $100 to $700 price range. This mic was the most natural sounding. Too natural for other instruments. picks up too much sizzle and rumble when recording distorted guitar. A tad to bright for vocals. Needs to be de-essed.
Features
A pad and a roll off. Don't need anything else for a project studio.
Quality
Feels really good when you hold it. You can feel the density.
Value
Sound for price can't be beat. This mic is mroe flexible than other mics which cost more but are only suited for a few applications. This mic works great on anything acoustic
Manufacturer Support
Had to return a different mic to akg. they were prompt.
The Wow Factor
Looks sleek.
