MSP5
High quality, powered monitors have traditionally demanded premium prices. The new MSP5 bi-amplified monitor speakers from Yamaha deliver extraordinary sound quality, at an equally attractive price! The MSP5 provides the perfect choice for a wide range of applications, from home recording to post production.

Ultra-Compact, Quick and Easy Hookup
Ultra-compact enclosures allow easy placement. Small face print makes them very accurate for "point source" listening. Hookup is quick and easy with both XLR and 1/4 in. phone jacks available. 67 combined watts of audio power in a bi-amplified monitor this size, let alone near this price, was previously unheard of -- until now. Upgrading to studio level monitoring has never been easier.

Custom Designed 5 in. Woofer and 1 in. Titanium Tweeter
Titanium offers excellent response, separation and durability. The MSP5's dome tweeter, surrounded by a waveguide horn offers a broad coverage area of 120 degrees.

Built-In Bi-Amplification
With 2 separate amplifiers powering the woofer and tweeter, incredibly lower distortion is realized. A total of 67 watts, 40 to the woofer and 27 to the tweeter, generates a much larger sound field than would normally be expected from a system of this size.

Great for Mastering
Flat frequency response out to 40kHz makes the MSP5 great for mastering, where high sample and bit rates are the norm.

Waveguide Technology
The smooth circular horn surrounding the tweeter delivers uniform dispersion without read more distortion or coloration.

Magnetic Shielding, Compact Enclosures
Complete magnetic shielding and compact size permits easy placement near all types of audio, video and computer equipment.

Versatile Equalization Control
The MSP5's 4 position EQ switch for low frequency and 3-position switch for high frequency match the system's response to the acoustic environment.

"The Legend lives!"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I think my ears will mold to this sound, and probably I will someday get a subwoofer to match them. But they will remain as my mixing spoeakers for a lifetime.
Sound
Sound is FLAT until around 50 HZ. I mean FLAT. I measured the frequency response at the listening position and I got an almost flat graph (with slightly more treble). The sound is HUGE for such small speakers. It's pretty much a new, improved version of the legendary NS10! Trust me, don't listen to any other reviews. These speakers literally open the whole mix, so that you can see its guts.
Quality
On the new A Perfect Circle album, in the first song (the package), at high volumes, the bass makes the speakers rattle a lot. Those kind of frequencies ask for a subwoofer.
Value
They worth more than double the price. Want to have the same mixing conditions than Andy Wallace and other world-class mixing engineers and producers? Buy them.
The Wow Factor
When I was searching for monitors, I checked out this possibility because they seemed a bit ugly and too small to have good bass. But after searching and reading a lot of reviews to other brands and models I realised: "They use NS10 to mix in pro studios! I just need that type of precision and capacity to show the ugly things in a mix. I need Yamahas". The MSP5 have it all.
