Marshall AVT150X Guitar Combo Amplifier (150 Watts, 1x12 in.)

Four channels including an acoustic simulator. Digital effects.

Marshall's AVTX line of amplifiers is the culmination of a decade's worth of evolution and innovation since the birth of the original Valvestate. All models now feature a new contemporary look and all AVT50X, AVT100X, and AVT150X models include automatic variable speed fans, ensuring their place as the market leader.

Both the AVT150X and AVT150HX boast more channels and features than any Valvestate amplifier before. Their four channels are: Acoustic Simulator, Clean, Overdrive 1, and Overdrive 2.

Acoustic Simulator: As its name suggests, the Acoustic Simulator channel transforms the sound of a standard electric guitar into that of an acoustic guitar with amazing authenticity.

Referring to a Guitarist magazine review: "The Acoustic Simulator is a brilliant idea -- a first for a non-digital amp -- and the tonal effect is extremely convincing with single coil pickups, allowing a guitarist to switch instantly from electric to acoustic sounds without changing guitars or amps."

For even further flexibility, the AVT150X and AVT150HX house a pair of adjustable DFX sections -- one for the Acoustic/Clean channels and the other for Overdrive1/Overdrive 2. Both DFX sections are on/off foot-switchable via the supplied 6-way LED foot controller.

Clean: From the cleanest clean to a natural, valve-induced, bluesy crunch and anywhere in-between. A Bright switch enhances high-end definition at low Gain settings.

Overdrive 1: Takes you from the dynamic raunch of a 1959 'Plexi' to the larger-than-life read more crunch of a cranked JCM800. A Scoop switch reconfigures the EQ to give you that classic thrash sound of the '80s.

Overdrive 2: From the primal angst of a hot-rodded JCM800 to extreme gain. Hit the Scoop switch to produce the brutal, bone-crushing slam of modern ('nu') metal.

The 16 DFX are adjusted by the following controls: DFX Mix, DFX Adjust, and DFX Select. A Parallel FX Loop, complete with Mix control, is also included for added flexibility. The supplied 4-way LED foot controller allows you to switch the DFX on/off. Other features include a Headphone jack and a Speaker Emulated Line Out.

I'm done, I've found my amp.

Sound
I've owned a whole gaggle of Marshall Amps, including JCM2000, a few MG's, an older AVT and I've got to say, this little monster has them all! The sound is fat and can run from the cleanest "Beach Boys" clean to some kind of nasty, gut ripping, tube melting metal. The Acoustic channel is a nice touch with a warm "woody" kind of sound that is really surprising for this type of amp. The DFX section is also surprising in its performance and real convenient that it has individual controls for clean and OD channels. I really don't need aux. effects pedals anymore .. woohoo! A nice elimination of wires to trip over. I would probably recommend the AVT112X extension cab to fatten up to bass but I don't know if that's really needed for most applications.

Features
The included footswitch is typical Marshall. All metal, with stainless steel, positive click stomp buttons. The buttons are far enough apart that even with my big foot I can actually hit the one I mean to.

Ease of Use
Again, typical Marshall. Nice neat user friendly front panel arrangement, clearly marked. The brighter brass finish makes it even easier to see the control numbers in dim bar lights.

Quality
It's built like a tank. I haven't owned it long enough to know if it's going to blow up but knowing Marshall, I doubt it.

Value read more
Great price for what it is. I've paid more for other Marshall's that don't sound as good or offer as much.

Manufacturer Support
You can't beat Marshall for support.

The Wow Factor
It just doesn't get sexier than Marshall ... unless of course it's a Les Paul plugged in to a Marshall.
