Gig FX VOD 3-Stage Variable Distortion/Overdrive Pedal

No longer available at zZounds
Go from clean boost to thrash from one pedal. Transparent bypass. All analog signal circuitry.

The Gig FX VOD Variable Overdrive Pedal can produce any level of overdrive from clean boost to shred metal. All analog, low noise with tonal qualities to die for. The three band EQ has a wide cut and boost range to provide almost any desired tone. One central concept to the VOD is to preserve the full EQ and tone of the original signal, which is not easy with a distortion pedal. By adjusting the EQ, you will find you can retain your fundamental guitar tone, whether it is low end, mid tones, or high end harmonics. Of course, if you want to augment your tone, you can cut and boost highs, lows or mids to create your own sound.

Three-position Pedal
Select the any of three levels of gain and distortion giving anywhere from clean boost to shred. No need for multiple buttons. Each of these three levels can be individually pre-set for gain and distortion.

Three Band EQ
Post-effect EQ anywhere from fat and warm to mid-rich to bright and can be adjusted to preserve original tonal qualities of your guitar.

Three bright LEDs
Indicate pedal position and level of distortion selected, easy to see on stage.

All analog signal circuitry with digital control, crystal clear sound, no coloration.

Easy to use. Just press the pedal and will click into the required position.

Transparent bypass achieved by a FET switch. Open frequency response same as a true mechanical bypass, but more reliable. No signal drop or harmonics suck-out. Noiseless, pop-free switching.

Reliable, wear-free, noise-free optical operation. Bypassed when pedal is all the way back.

9V operating voltage, 20mA current consumption (we recommend using an AC adapter).

Will accept standard 2.1mm AC adapter supply plug, center negative.

Green / Yellow / Red LED's indicate level of distortion selected.

Compact Size: 9 x 4 inches (228mm x 103mm).

Lightweight, high-quality aircraft aluminum casting and rugged construction, only 2.3lbs (1.1kg). Patented ergonomics.

If you're like me and you need to find a variety of sounds this is great! Having said that if you just need one good overdrive look up the Pork Loin by Way Huge, or if you own a Marshall/Vox/Matchless(anything with EL34s) look up the Nobel ODR-1 it's only $50!!

Sound
This pedal has a good sound and I own a few od's that I've compared it to (Nobel OD-1, FD2, etc). The first two positions I'm able to find bluesy tones and rock tones. In all three stages I generally have the volume all the way up with the gain all the way down as this this pedal gets a good gritty sound with the gain on the lowest setting. I am using a Les Paul so the humbuckers drive the pedal harder up front than a strat would and I imagine a this pedal would be more versitile tonally with a strat. The gain in stage 2 and 3 get distorted extremely fast with my guitar/amp setup. The sound is good but the 3-position setting is the real selling point. I have a single channel amp so I need the ability to go from a rhythm sound to a lead sound.

Features
The concept behind this pedal is genius- It does alot while not taking up more space on my pedalboard than a wah! The eq works well. OD's can kill some bass and the eq on this pedal makes it easy to dial that back in if you want it. It is tough to find an eq setting that works well with all 3 positions as the 3rd and most distorted position can add piercing highs, but when you eq the highs down a bit it takes read more some of the natural highs out of the 1st two positions. With that said I have found a happy medium. Also, like I've read in other reviews I wish that there was more volume on each of the 3 settings. I will add to that by saying I wish the gain knob could dial in more gradual amounts of gain.

Ease of Use
This one does have a small learning curve, but anyone interested in pedals will quickly dial in the sound they want.

Quality
Like a tank so far. Very sturdy and very light.

Value
The price is good, not great but good. I wish all good od's cost as much as my Nobel ODR-1.

Manufacturer Support
I have not had to deal with the company but feel confident that they would be helpful should something go wrong.

The Wow Factor
I wanted this for a long time and now I own it. I said the same thing about the Fender Fuzz Wah, but the Fender got returned and this pedal stayed. I really like to dial in a good tone on stage and this pedal helps me be versitile depending on the song, mood, and volume level.
