Dave Smith Poly Evolver Keyboard Analog/Digital Synth

No longer available at zZounds
4 voices, 512 Programs, 384 Combos, 78 knobs, 58 switches

The Dave Smith Instruments Poly Evolver Keyboard has 4 voices, each a complete Evolver identical to the mono Evolver and Poly Evolver rack. If you want more voices, simply chain Poly Racks using the dedicated poly chain MIDI output. Specs are bascially the same as the Poly Evolver rack, i.e. 512 Programs, 384 Combos, etc. Of course, there's the 78 knobs, 58 switches, blinking LFO and sequence blue LEDS, and backlit wheels that make this instrument scream "tweak me!" This ain't no virtual synth...

Each voice has its own sequencer. This allows some great wave-sequencing applications by gating sequences polyphonically from the keyboard. Each voice also has its own effects, such as feedback, distortion, and delay, which enables completely independent processing of each voice for a super thick sound.

The stereo audio inputs go to all four voices, each of which can select to process or ignore the external signals, so you can do quad parallel processing of any audio source. Or, since there are stereo outputs on each of the four voices, you can route the output of one voice to the input of another voice for some interesting effects.

Overall, the Poly, while retaining all of Evolver's wild capabilities, has emerged with its own personality. Many sounds that just didn't make much sense on the monophonic Evolver really shine when played polyphonically - this will be a real pad-monster machine. The wavesequencing is another. On the other hand, some Evolver sounds are actually too huge read more to play polyphonically, so I guess it works in both directions.

Once you play a Poly Evolver, you'll immediately hear what's missing with all those soft and virtual synths - this is real! Finally some personality and individuality in a polyphonic synth. As with the Evolver, the idea was not to create an analog retro synth, but to start with the benefits of true analog design, and then go well beyond with the tightly integrated digital features. You get all the old stuff (yes, these are Curtis filters) plus an all-new sound - check it out!

This has got be the polyphonic synth of the year...there's a lot of great analog monosynths out there right now (Moog, Studio Electronics, Future Retro etc) which are worth purchasing (as well as great software synths)...but I can't think of another analog polyphonic synth I'd rather have right now than this one...I'm sure someone out there with an Alesis Andromeda may want to argue that point...I'll stand behind my synth in that argument

Sound
There comes a time in everyone's life where they finally experience the sonic difference between analog and digital...this synth blows away every software plug in I've ever owned!

Features
..just peek the specs 4 oscillators (2 analog and 2 digital...the digital oscillators add the right amount of nasty bite to complement the pristine analog sound) 16x4 sequencer (yeah...that's one for EACH VOICE) 4 LFO's The sequencer works much like the way the Matrix interacts with synths in Reason...the sequencer doesn't have to play notes...it can trigger values for every parameter on the synth (much like where you patch the Curve CV of the Matrix into different parameters on the back of your Reason Rack) btw...just b/c I compare to Reason...don't think for a second that you're going to get a sound in Reason anywhere near as fat as on this synth

Quality
This synth is a BLAST to work with at night...Dave Smith did a wonderful job with all the lights...it's read more a joy to look at while its' sound completely blows your mind

Value
You get what you pay for. The Poly Evolver costs as much as it does because it rocks

Manufacturer Support
I fully expect there to be no problems with this baby...A company like Dave Smith isn't going to build something sub-standard...

The Wow Factor
If you're not completely in love with tweaking the bejeezus out of your synth and just expect presets to serve all your needs this synth is NOT FOR YOU...the presets are nothing but a starting point for you to dig deep and strike pure analog gold
