CAD E350 Equitek Series Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone
No longer available at zZounds
Includes ZM1G shockmount.
Overview
The E350 combines vintage capsule design with advanced electronics. The capsule is an OS110 Optema dual diaphragm condenser capsule that is produced in a state-of-the-art clean room facility in Conneaut, Ohio. The OS110 inside measurement is 1.1 in., a true large-diameter, externally-biased capsule. It utilizes 3 micron thick, high tension diaphragms made from the latest high strength polymer film, and a 24K gold-sputtered diaphragm coating. Each capsule is hand adjusted for proper damping and consistent frequency response.
The E350's advanced electronics begin with the high speed OpAmps for optimum performance and very high gain. Add active servo headamp circuitry in place of interstage capacitors used in other microphones in order to extend low end response, and provide less colorization of the audio signal due to the reduction of phase anomalies and of bandwidth limiting, often associated with capacitors. The E350 provides a remarkably high level of performance with extraordinary detail, transparency and flexibility. The Equitek Series has created a new standard for quality and value. Also available in matched pairs for overhead or room miking. The Equitek E350 has a remarkable open and clean sound that will enhance any project.

About CAD
CAD Professional Microphones, a division of CTI Audio, designs and manufacturers professional microphones in its state-of-the-art USA facility, located in Conneaut, Ohio. An influence in the development of microphone technology over the last decade, the company made its mark bringing distinction to reasonably priced mics, revolutionizing the studio mic market. As the word got around, other manufactures began to follow suit and new competitors entered the marketplace. This is most obvious in the studio condenser arena, where dozens of models have been introduced over the last 2 years. While promising the sound of the revered "vintage" mics, most of these new "classics" are made in the Far East, many in the same factory.
CAD designers have remained focused on the factors that make a great mic sound great: High sensitivity, transparency, precise transient, phase response, wide frequency response, and extremely low self noise. The microphone's capsule must capture the impact, tone, ambience, and nuances of an instrument or voice. CAD's renowned Optema capsules are 24K gold sputtered and hand dampened in CTI's clean room facility. Like only a handful of true microphone manufactures, CAD maintains it own manufacturing facility in the USA. This gives CAD designers control over every aspect of the mic's design, performance, and quality.
CTI Audio's roots go back to the 1930's, when they developed many innovative mic designs, including the T2, possibly the world's first dual tube condenser mic. CAD's celebrated Equitek studio condensers became associated with the explosive project studio market, and a requisite for the sound of the urban music styles of the 90's. When conservative engineers and producers began to discover and demand CAD, the brand became established as a standard. Today, CAD is looked to for their first class design, and for microphones unparalleled in their ability to memorialize the recordings they're used on. read less

"CAD E350... Amazing"
Once a manufacturer stops making a product, it seems everyone wants it and it becomes one of the greatest pieces of gear. So is the case for a CAD E350. Other vintage mics I own, don't often live up to the hype, but the E350 does, in spades. Possibly the best microphone I have ever heard. It has a silky presence, smooth even response and a touch of magic that tickles your ear in a way that is indescribable. It has all the qualities of the great mics of old, wrapped into one package. Maybe that's why the mic is so large.
I have used it for voice over, singers, guitar, oboe, you name it, it makes everything shine. CAD should take notice and reintroduce this mic, which was made totally in the USA. It's a rare gem.
Musical Background:
45 years of playing Drums, 37 years of commercial production and Voice Over.
Musical Style:
Classic Rock, Jazz.
