Behringer PX2000 Ultrapatch Pro

Features 48 patch points and 4 switchable modes of operation (parallel, normalled, semi-normalled, and open). Fits in one rack space.

In order to wire the many and various components of a studio, you need a multitude of different connections. Often, fixed links between single devices are impossible, because specific recording or mix-down situations require special-purpose connections. For this reason, professional studios use so-called patchbays carrying connectors for the various studio components. For example, you can route audio signals from one central point to all devices connected to the patchbay.

Behringer's Ultrapatch Pro PX2000 enables audio engineers and musicians to organize numerous connections more efficiently. Robust workmanship and sophisticated design give the Ultrapatch Pro long-term reliability and allow for its use in a variety of applications. Equipped with 48 phone jacks on the front and rear panels, occupying only 1U rack space, the Ultrapatch Pro also has a switch for each channel (24 in all) on the top panel which can be used to adjust one of the four operating modes ("parallel," "half-normalized," "normalized," and "open"), which give you utmost flexibility when configuring a well-structured wiring scheme in the studio. Other Behringer rack products such as compressors, equalizers, psycho-acoustic processors, and many more are described in Behringer's new Standard Audio catalog.

If you have a multitrack and a few DSPs, or even an amp and a few different pieces of rack gear, a patch bay may be for you. This one is a godsend for me, and as patch bays go, there's not a thing wrong with this inexpensive unit.
Sound
Adds no apparent noise to my signal path and has even solved a ground loop problem I was having with an old Korg M1.
Features
Dip switches on top of the unit allow you to select Normalled, 1/2-normalled, Open or Parallel for each A/B duo of ports. If you think you won't use that feature, you're wrong, it's very, very handy.
Quality
Solid, sturdy, with tight jacks. I think you could run over it with a car and not hurt it.
Value
Worth every penny and probably more.
Manufacturer Support
Behringer is slow as death to answer emails, but the one time I've ever had to return a new "B-stock" Behringer item, they replaced it with a brand new "A-stock" one for no additional charge.
The Wow Factor
It's just a patch bay, not very sexy, but it is now my favorite, most useful piece of gear because of how it "enabled" the rest of my gear.
