ART Tube MP OPL Microphone Preamp with Output Protection Limiter

No longer available at zZounds
Hand-selected 12AX7a tube. Provides 70db of gain.

The new ART Tube MP OPL features ART's "OPL" Output Protection Limiter, which precisely and accurately controls and maintains the output peak signal. The OPL circuitry is crucial in protecting the next link in a signal chain - such as a hard-disk recording system or a sound card.

The Tube MP OPL features all the functionality of its predecessor, the world's number one Tube Mic Pre, the Tube MP. Whether you're working with a computer, hard disk, or digital multi-track recorder, the Tube MP OPL's design delivers professional recording studio results at a fraction of the cost of comparable equipment.

The design of the Tube MP OPL allows it to add warmth and fatness to a signal while maintaining exceptionally low-noise and high quality. While its primary application is to be used with a microphone, the Tube MP OPL is an exceptional direct box - impedance matching, amplifying, and improving the sound of any instrument plugged into it.

The Tube MP OPL offers superior performance and sound quality to the "onboard" preamps found in today's low-cost mixers and multi-trackers. Professional quality sound combined with professional features like a 12AX7a Tube, phantom power, and Phase Reverse, are what make the Tube MP OPL a great microphone preamp.

The Tube MP OPL can be used in a wide variety of applications including recording, project, and home studios, where its OPL circuit really shines. It also functions as a direct box, with impedance matching and preamplification for line-level read more sources. The ART Tube MP OPL's performance and feature set exceeds that of units costing many times its price... and it's unique combination of features and flexibility will make it a must-have in any audio toolkit.

Sound
the sound of this product is pretty good. it definitely adds a nice warm tone to your recording. however, it is does come with some noise for some reason. i tried a different power supply, hoping that was the problem, but no. it's a noisy little unit. otherwise, it serves its purpose well - warms up the tone.
Features
nice and simple.
Quality
i'm not sure the phantom power actually works on mine. i bought it too long ago to return it. i only used non-phantom mics for a long time. as soon as i tried to use a friend's AKG which needed phantom power, the ART didn't deliver! oh well. back to using my shure 57 and 58.
Value
i would value it more if it was more quiet.
