Line Array Buying Guide

Clear, Room-Filling Sound through Cutting-Edge Design

Do you need to get full-range audio dispersed across a medium-to-large-sized venue? A line array speaker system may be the perfect solution. Line array speakers are designed to spread sound evenly through the room, instead of blasting the front row while leaving the back of the room straining to hear. As a growing category, line array speakers represent some of the most cutting-edge designs available from modern speaker manufacturers.

How does a stadium PA system send loud, clear sound all the way to the cheap seats? It's all about long-throw speakers. Each speaker box in a line array system is designed and precisely aimed to project a focused beam of sound to just a few rows. And when sound isn't spread out as far vertically, it can travel farther. Narrow vertical dispersion, wide horizontal dispersion, and long throw -- it all adds up to consistent sound coverage, even in huge venues.

With their ear-pleasing sound dispersion and modular, stackable design, line array speakers are great for clubs, venues, houses of worship, and other rooms requiring professional-quality sound and diverse, flexible setup options. In this Line Array Buying Guide, we'll take you on a tour through our most popular line array speakers.

QSC LA108 Powered Line Array Loudspeaker

As part of QSC's L Class series, the QSC LA108 and LA112 loudspeakers are noteworthy for their smart digital processing under the hood that helps take the guesswork out of deploying a line array -- along with the great sound, reliability, and ease of use you'd expect from any QSC speaker.

The exceptionally lightweight LA108 model is an especially great choice for portable rigs. Even before you hear these speakers, you'll be impressed by how easy they are to set up, thanks to QSC's RapidDeploy rigging system. A single person can handle the box-to-box connections and angle adjustments, with no external hardware or tools (besides an array frame).

Once your arrays are hung, each speaker can sense its position and relative angle within the array and optimize its performance, thanks to QSC's AWARE (Automatic Wireless Array Recognition) technology and System Navigator software.

The QSC LA108 at a glance:
- Frequency range (-10 dB): 57 Hz - 20 kHz
- Nominal coverage: 100 degrees H x 15 degrees V
- Maximum rated peak SPL: 134 db @ 1 m
- Amplifier peak wattage: 1300 watts (LF 1000 W + HF 300 W
- Transducers: 8" LF driver, 1.75" HF compression driver
- Weight: 30.1 lb (13.7 kg)

QSC LA112 Powered Line Array Loudspeaker

Next up in QSC's L Class series is the LA112, a bigger brother to the LA108 with much more power and a wider frequency range that makes these speakers an ideal choice for bigger systems.

In both the LA108 and LA112, QSC's patented LEAF (Length-Equalized Acoustic Flare) waveguide ensures uniform coverage over a wide area, giving you the ability to set your crossover at a lower frequency than traditional waveguides -- improving vocal reproduction and detail in the upper mids and highs.

The QSC LA112 at a glance:
- Frequency range (-10 dB): 53 Hz - 20 kHz
- Nominal coverage: 90 degrees H x 15 degrees V
- Maximum rated peak SPL: 136 db @ 1 m
- Amplifier peak wattage: 2400 watts (LF 1600 W + HF 800 W)
- Transducers: 12" LF driver, 1.75" HF compression driver
- Weight: 47.2 lb (21.4 kg)
