"Voyage-Air Folding Acoustic Guitars ARE THE BEST TRAVEL GUITARS."

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
This guitar is a keeper. if I win the lottery or inherit some bucks from a long lost relative, I would spring for the $2000.00 Voyage-Air Premier model cutaway which is constructed of Rosewood and plays and sounds like a dream guitar.

Sound
This guitar replaces 2 guitars that I own. Yes, It's that good. I installed a Baggs sound hole pick-up and the sound/tone is amazing. I never thought that you could have a travel guitar and a performance guitar in the same guitar. Very ingenious and clever design. I see absolutely no trade-offs in playing, practicing, and performing. You can now take your acoustic guitar with you everywhere and the fact that it fits in an Airline overhead is just icing on the cake. I also use a Capo with no problems and changing and tuning strings is a cinch. Very well thought out design and excellent value for the money. My Martins are gathering dust while my Voyage-Air gets played every day....AND I get to take it anywhere to practice and perform without thinking twice as the backpack and guitar only weighs about 7 pounds. Really beats lugging around the 14 pound Martin D28 in its deluxe hard shell case.

Features
No accessories are bundled other than the terrific black padded nylon backpack case. I like the fact that its ultra light but strong and durable enough to provide more than adequate protection for the Voyage-Air guitar when traveling. The Included Zipper Notebook computer compartment read more is a real handy feature as it allows me to transport my MacBook Pro with my Voyage-Air guitar.

Ease of Use
THis is the best designed folding travel guitar period. I gave it a 10 bwecause it only takes seconds to get the guitar in playing position...Really it's that easy. And you don't have to loosen the strings when putting it in playing position or breaking it down for travel. The hinge is ultra strong and the design of the components is very robust. All of these special parts keep the strings attached to the guitar in playing and storage position. The locking nut only requires a hand tight turn to lock the neck in place. A very simple and elegantly designed guitar that even has a truss rod so you adjust the neck if you need to make minor adjustments to the action.

Quality
I gave this guitar a 9 rating as I feel that the fit and finish is above average for any type of non-folding guitar. The quality of the wood used and the craftsmanship of how the parts fit and look appearance wise are in my opinion above average for non-folding guitars that are priced in this category. I have found no problems whatsoever with the hinge or other components of the guitar even though I have been folding it and unfolding it 2-3 times a day for the last 5 months that I've owned this guitar.

Value
Since this guitar replaces 2 guitars in my current collection, my performance and travel/practice guitar, I give this guitar a 10 rating on Value for the Money. I really see this as 2 guitars in one ingenious design. My only question is why did it take so long for someone to come up with this design? I would have bought it 10 years ago if it was available!!!

Manufacturer Support
I have only dealt with the reseller and they have been aces in answering my sales and usage related questions. I have not (knock on wood) had any technical problems with the guitar and it has worked as advertised from day one. I believe the sound is getting fuller and richer the more I play it and it definitely has opened up as a real acoustic guitar should over a period of time. I look forward to it sounding even better over time as it has become the acoustic guitar that I play the most now.

The Wow Factor
The best way to describe the WOW factor and appeal of this guitar is to just fold the guitar in half in front of people and they freak-out. Guaranteed to be a conversation starter in a public place. They also freak-out when they see that the guitar stays in tune after putting it in playing position after taking it out of the backpack case.
