Vintage Sound. Two Gain Settings.
Overview
The T-Rex Dr.Swamp is a double distortion pedal. It has that rich vintage sound, T-Rex is known for. Besides the warm crunchy sound, this pedal gives a lot of steady bottom. You can flip back and forth between the two gain settings A and B - by clicking switch A or B. The lid (A or B) is indicating the active gain. The pedal is turned off, by clicking the switch (A or B) that is lid.
Features:
The Gain A knob controls the amount of distortion, when using switch A.
The Gain B knob controls the amount of distortion, when using switch B.
The Level knob sets the overall volume. In mid-position (twelve o'clock) the volume level is 1:1. When turned full over (clockwise) the input signal is boosted 15dB.
The Tone knob affects the top end (edge) of your signal without compromising sonic quality, allowing you to dial in the perfect tonal flavour for you taste.
Controls:
Gain A, Gain B, Level and Tone
Connections:
Input-Jack 6,3 mm.
Output-Jack 6,3 mm.
DC-Jack 2 mm. pin.

"Dr. Swamp: Sounds great for the price."
I appreciate the overall noiseless operation of this pedal - it's very clean and free of transient noise. My only complaint is that when you set the gain to a low setting you lose a bit of the low end / thickness in the sound that is there when you set the gain past the noon position. This is most noticable when you switch from a light crunch setting to a saturated overdriven sound - the light crunch always sounds a bit thinner as if it's not as harmonically colored as a more overdriven setting.
Sound
I like the quality of the distortion when you turn up the gain past noon. The distortion is thick and heavy and is colored with harmonic overtones. When you switch the distortion on you do not hear a "popping" sound that you do with some other pedals.
Features
I was very interested in the dual distortion capability of this guitar. Having two distortion channels gives me the ability to have a light crunchy distortion sound and a powerful overdriven sound that I can switch between whenever I feel like it. Both distortion channels have seperate gain knobs for individual attenuation, yet both channels share an overall tone and volume knob. I would prefer the two channels to have individual tone control and share a master volume. You can decide if this is a beneficial or harmful limitation yourself.
Ease of Use
Operation of this device is very straight forward. Still, one common… read more complaint I have amongst guitarists is that they often don't have a commensurate level of gain between their clean tones and overdriven tones.
Quality
The pedal is light but it's made of durable metal. My rat pedal is a heavy weight in comparison to the Dr. Swamp. The knobs are very smooth when you turn them, which is a nuance most other pedals do not provide. There is no "switch noise" when you activate the pedal, it's nice and quiet. The noise floor is low overall for this item.
Value
This item is hand made overseas in either Holland or Sweden I believe. I'm happy with the quality of the item, but I believe it's expensive because it's an overseas item. I would be disappointed if the quality of the unit was akin to a $60 - $80 Boss or Digitech distortion pedal, but it far exceeds them.
Manufacturer Support
I rate the support and even 5, because I have no need for any support at this time. I do know that this item is made overseas so technical / customer support will probably be tricky, if not impossible.
The Wow Factor
I really like the aqua blue color of the item. The LED's on both channels are brighter than most other pedals, so when the pedal is activated the LED does draw eyes toward it. It's also a very nice compact size with powerful thick tone, yet exceptionally light in weight. It's surprising to hear such massive sounds coming out of a little stomp box like this.
