SWR 750X Pro Series Bass Amplifier Head (750 Watts)

No longer available at zZounds
Two built-in effects circuits, XLR outputs, and an extremely responsive and crystal-clear sound make this the perfect amp for playing live or direct.

Crushing volume, 2 killer effects, and pure SWR tone. The SWR 750x is the first upgrade to the highest-powered mono professional bass amplifier, the Bass 750. In addition to new chassis graphics--featuring the SWR logo badge in classic chrome--the 750x has inherited 2 popular effects circuits from the SWR Mo' Bass: SubWave (which produces a clean, pure and accurate octave effect) and Overdrive (which affects the pre-amp's 12AX7 tube to create overdrive that can be as subtle as a classic "flip top" or as nasty as a half stack).

I've had alot of pro setups. I'm coming off a Yamaha pre-amp / BGW power amp rig. The SWR sounds better, is easier on my speakers and is about 15 lbs. lighter than my previous rig. I've been using SWR products for many years and have been very happy wih them. My old SWR 4 x 10 and current SWR 1 x 18 (boh goliath series) were used with 2 - 2000 watt RMS Hill amps and they handled it beautifully. I don't play gigs that big any more. I expect to keep this head for many years. If this unit was stolen I'd be crushed as it will sone be irreplaceble. I find it hard to believe that Fender won't mess it up somehow.

Sound
Extremely clear, very responsive, lots of depth. Very nice for recording direct. I use it with a Hartke pro 2100 (I think that's the model #, it's the extra large cabinet) 4 x 10 and an SWR (goliath series) 1 x 18. Alot of times I just use one of these cabinets. I also use it as a direct box / pre-amp for recording. Very nice compressor. I cover alot of styles from 1940's to Zappa, fusion, R&B, Soft/hard rock, Grunge, Reggae, Rap, etc.

Features
Just about all the control you'd ever need. It comes with a footswitch for those rare times when you need the effects.

Quality
The SWR made units are excellent. They are now owned by Fender so there may be some design changes afoot. this is a major point to consider.

Value
Money means nothing when you buy read more equipment of this caliber. It is the sound and reliability that counts.

Manufacturer Support
Happy to say I haven't needed service. This amp gets heavy use a few times per month.

The Wow Factor
Who cares!! I'm using it not looking at it.

Musical Style:
I prefer high energy rock , funk, fusion.
