Hi-MD Recording Format
First and foremost: high sound quality. Up to 94 minutes of high quality PCM Linear recordings (equal to CD) are possible. Alternatively, selection for high quality ATRAC3plus compressed audio recordings allows up to 34 hours of recording on one Hi-MD disc.

Hi-MD Media
Affordable Hi-MD media. 1GB high-capacity storage for several dollars, re-writeable, plus it's durable due to it's protected enclosure! Compared to other more expensive digital storage technologies used for portable audio recording; your important audio recordings have the option of remaining on Hi-MD media, because you won't have to immediately transfer them to a computer just to reclaim a piece of cost-prohibitive storage media. In addition; Hi-MD media is rewritable, so it can also be reused over and over.

Compatible with Both Hi-MD and Standard MiniDisc Media
Hi-MD recorders are backward compatible with the standard MiniDisc media. The Hi-MD recorder allows playing back a standard MiniDisc, or you can reformat a blank standard MiniDisc to record in the Hi-MD format. Note: standard MiniDisc recordings cannot be transferred to a computer by USB.

USB Data File Storage
Hi-MD uses the FAT file system, making it possible to use "Hi-MD" formatted MDs and 1GB "Hi-MD" discs as versatile media for recording data files. Hi-MD complies with USB format's Mass Storage Class, ensuring that simply by connecting a "Hi-MD" recorder to a PC it is immediately recognized as an external storage device.

6 Line Large EL (Organic Electroluminescence) Display
Attractive LCD display on the recorder makes it easy to see and operate. Bright LCD display allows easy viewing in all conditions.

Self Record Uploading to PC
Upon transferring Hi-MD recordings to Sonic Stage software on your PC, you have an option to store these files as .wav files. This allows easy access to the .wav files with popular audio editing and signal processing applications.

Self Record Uploading to MAC
Upon transferring Hi-MD recordings (PCM Linear Only) to the Hi-MD WAV Importer software, these files can be stored on a MAC as .WAV files. This allows easy access to the .wav files with popular audio editing and signal processing applications. Note: Only Hi-MD PCM self-recordings made on MZ-M100 and MZ-M10 models can be imported using the Hi-MD WAV Importer software.

Recorder Battery Life (Using Hi-MD Media)
For Linear PCM recording mode, Up to 8 hours of recording, or up to 20 hours of playback. For ATRAC3plus Hi-SP mode, Up to 11.5 hours of recording, or up to 28.5 hours of playback. For ATRAC3plus Hi-LP Mode, Up to 12.5 hours of recording or up to 33 hours of playback.

Digital Amplifier
More efficient then traditional analog amplifiers by using less energy to produce the same signal. This also allows for a much smaller amplifier than traditional amplifiers.
