If you want be taken seriously as a professional DJ you're going to need the skills, obviously, but you're also going to need the gear to match. No matter where your music-destiny takes you, the Pioneer CDJ-1000MK3 is up to the task. Since its introduction in 2001, Pioneer's flagship CDJ has been used so often by so many of the world's top DJs that the name "CDJ-1000" has almost become shorthand for "CD deck." When you show up to your next gig with a pair of CDJ-1000MK3's in tow, everyone will know you mean business.

Beyond pure name recognition, the CDJ-1000MK3 has the features, effects and fidelity that'll get your skills noticed. Any CD player can play music, but to call this deck a "CD Player" would be an insult. The CDJ-1000MK3 is more an instrument than a mere implement, and no matter whether you're used to CD decks or vinyl turntables, the intuitive layout and responsive feel will be instantly familiar.

Vinyl Feel Without The Vinyl Noise
Any serious turntablist knows how important feel is to their art. A big part of the appeal of spinning vinyl is the intimate connection between your hands and the music stored on those grooved and groovy discs. Unfortunately, the vinyl medium has its fair share of drawbacks. Delicate hardware like needles and tonearms, and noisy phono connectors that are susceptible to ground hum can be major headache-inducers. Then there's the records themselves, which are a pain to store and transport safely, and wear out quickly anyway, even under read more normal use. CDJ-1000MK3's eliminate all those problems while recreating the tactile experience of scratching on LP platters. At the literal and figurative center of the CDJ's design is its 7.5" jog-wheel. With the deck in "Vinyl Mode" you can interact with this jog wheel the same way you would a spinning record: your cut, cue, scratch, nudge, fast-forward and reverse moves are all read with laser-accuracy. You can even set stops and starts to ramp up or down, and playback can be stopped on a dime by pressing down on the top of the wheel. Just about any move you can do on a vinyl turntable can be performed on a CDJ-1000MK3, and in pristine, CD-quality sound. The jog wheel is also resistance-adjustable, so you can fine-tune it to your own touch.

Digital Sampling And Looping Built Right In
High-fidelity and reliable media aren't the only benefits digital audio and the CDJ-1000MK3 have to offer. Integrated digital sampling effects make the CDJ-1000MK3 much more than just a CD-turntable, and all sampler functions are easily accessible via the deck's intuitive layout. Three "Hot Cue" points, each with their own dedicated button, can be used to capture and trigger samples on the fly for one-shot accents or stutter effects. Real-time looping is a breeze, too; loop in- and out-points can be adjusted during playback, and everything can be digitally locked to tempo, an impossibility with analog vinyl decks. Loops and samples can be stored on removable MMC or SD media (an SD card is included) so you can revisit your favorites whenever you want. With the CDJ-1000MK3, all these advanced turntablist techniques will be at your fingertips, no additional sampling gear required.

CDJ Got Your Back
Pioneer CDJ-1000MK3's boast a lot of features that'll help you impress club audiences and promoters, but they also boast features that'll keep you from ever leaving a bad impression, too. You know what we're talking about: you go to cut from deck one to deck two, only to see that your CD has somehow half-managed a daring escape from its player, and the club is enveloped in a deafening silence as all eyes turn towards you, wondering why you killed their buzz. With the CDJ-1000MK3's CD-eject-lock button, that scenario will be nothing more than a bad dream. Additionally, auto-buffering anti-skip memory and an oil-dampened, vibration-absorbing shock mounting help ensure that playback never stops unless you want it to. You'll only perform better knowing these safety features negate the possibility of potentially embarrassing situations that might keep you from booking the gig next time.

Every DJ strives to maintain a perfect balance between artistry and professionalism. The Pioneer CDJ-1000MK3 is the one CD Deck that most perfectly embodies that philosophy, and is the one piece of gear that, no matter how big you get, will always keep pace.

Pioneer CDJ1000 MK3 DJ CD Player

The new industry standard CDJ-1000MK3 provides full MP3 compatibility, a HOT LOOP feature, JOG wheel ‘feeling adjust’ and improved presentation of track and WAVE data along with support for SD cards to store cues and loops. A brighter improved resolution on both raised jog wheel display and main display further enhance performance for DJs.

MP3 Support
The MP3 audio format has taken the world by storm and now the CDJ-1000MK3 can play all your MP3s; CBR or VBR at any bitrate from CD-R or CD-RW.

Improved Jog Dial
The CDJ-1000MK3's 7-inch jogdial has been improved to offer DJs another world's first -- the ability to quickly and easily alter the resistance of the jog wheel, which benefits from a new metallic 'non-slip' finish. The Jog Dial Display is now brighter and has been brought closer to the surface of the Jog for better viewing angles. The center display also features 45-degree markers for added visual cueing assistance.

Hot Cue (sampler)
Memorizes up to 3 cue points per CD. These points can then be recalled by hitting either of the A, B or C buttons. This function can also be used like a mini sampler for vocals, stabs, or breaks, adding that touch of creativity to any DJ set. The MK3 now allows loops to be stored to Hot Cues.

Reverse
Instant reverse is controlled by using a toggle switch. With no loss of tempo or pitch, it can be used immediately within any track without having to stop or start.

Real Time Seamless Loop
A quick and simple way to set a loop while a track is playing. Once the loop is set, it can then be looped continuously or until the ReLoop / Exit button is pressed. When released, the track continues playing without any pause. The loop can be re-trigged at any time by hitting the ReLoop button.

Loop In / Out Adjust
Another world first from Pioneer -- is the ability to adjust both the In and Out points of a loop stored in memory. So now fine tuning a loop is both quick and easy. Loop-In adjust is only available on the CDJ-1000MK3.

Reloop
Hitting the newly backlit Reloop button instantly takes you back to the beginning of the loop stored in the CDJ-1000MK3's memory. Clever use of Reloop can create some sample like effects. The same loop is always stored in memory until replaced with a new loop.

Memory
The CDJ-1000MK3 has a memory feature that lets you store Wave Data as well as Cue and Loop points. The data can be stored on a removable memory card (MMC or SD) or the players internal memory. The removable memory card can also be used in any CDJ-1000, so once you've stored your favorite cue and loop points they're stored for life. The CDJ-1000MK3 also has a feature that allows you to duplicate memory cards. The display of the MK3 has been improved to give more accurate display of memory points within the track.

Wave Display
Another improvement for the MK3 is an improved Wave Display offering a better resolution and continuous display. Wave data is stored to the memory card for instant recall when a track is called up.

Track Display
CD-Text and ID3 data is displayed within the main display area for rapid track identification. An indicator also shows the total number of tracks available for playback.

CD Control
CD Control Buttons
High Quality Aluminium buttons - Track Search, Search, Cue and Play / Pause.

Jog Mode
The CDJ-1000MK3 can be set in either Vinyl or CDJ mode. In CDJ mode, the jog dial functions just like a Pioneer CDJ player, but without the touch sensitivity.

Scratch Play / Cue
When the CDJ-1000MK3 is in vinyl mode, the top of the jog dial functions just like a Vinyl Turntable. Pressing down stops the music and allows you to scratch or cue your track by rotating the jog dial in either direction.

Vinyl Speed Adjust Touch/Brake and Release/Start
Separate control knobs allow for quick adjustment of start and stop timing.

Tempo
Master Tempo
Pioneer's Master Tempo locks the pitch of the track even when you change the speed. You can speed up or slow down the beat without any noticeable difference in how the vocal and instruments sound.

Tempo Control
A 100mm linear high precision slider gives DJs total control and ensures that the tempo adjustment is easy and accurate.

Tempo Control Range
Ranges of +/- 6%, +/-10%, +/-16% and +/-100% (+70%/-100% for MP3) can be assigned to the Tempo Control slider.

Tempo Control Reset
Resets the tempo to 0% or original tempo of the track regardless of the slider position.

Eject Button & CD Lock
The CDJ-1000 has a guard to prevent you from accidentally pressing it the eject button. The CD is locked until the track is stopped. This can be deactivated as well if you are looking to do quick mixes. The player also features a new Quick Return function; in the event you accidentally eject a playing CD, re-inserting the CD will resume playback from the point the music stopped.

Multi-Read Format
The CDJ-1000MK3 can read CD, CD-R and CD-RW disks for CD-Audio and MP3 data formats.

Front Loading
Loading CD's without having to open doors or trays makes swapping discs and selecting tracks that much faster. It also helps to keep dirt and any nasty substances out of the CD's working parts.

Cue Functions
Auto Cue
This is the fastest way to find the beginning of a track. The sound level can also be changed to suit your style of music (-36db to +78db). There is also an option to turn it off if you prefer to cue up your CD tracks manually.

Real Time Cue
A cue point can be set on the fly and stored into the internal memory by just simply hitting the In / Real-time cue button.

Cue Marker Display
The current cue point is indicated within the jogdial's center display to show where the cuepoint is relative to the current play position.

Legato Link Conversion For High Quality Sound
Equipped with Pioneer's wide range technology- Legato Link Conversion. The CDJ-1000MK3 is capable of reproducing sound frequencies above 20kHz, which are lost during normal CD-format playback. Not only does this give great sound reproduction but sounds closer to the original recording and more analog like vinyl.

Shock-Proof Memory and Anti-Vibration Construction
Sound jumps or skipping is prevented by using shock-proof memory for continuous playback even in the event of a bump or knock.

Anti-Vibration
Oil-dampened floating suspension prevents sound skipping, even when the player is subjected to impact during use or vibrations generated from high volume music and low frequency bass.

Digital Output
The CDJ-1000MK3 is equipped with full-feature digital output. This means you can keep your scratching and master tempo playback entirely in the digital domain. Users who simply want to use the digital output for archival purposes may do so via the digital mode switch on the rear of the unit. All connectors on the rear of the unit are now gold-plated for higher connection quality and longevity.

Until Technics works out a better DJ table, Pioneer has made the best unit. Drop the price a bit, work in a spinning platter, and we'll have an amazing table.

Sound
The sound? what can I say. It's clean compared to a vinyl turntable (no ground needed, no record wear, no dirty needles) but unfortunately, as with all CD players, it is limited to 44.1kHz and 16 bit. As far as the scratching emulation, it's pretty good. Best on the market, but a DJ will definitely hear the difference between scratching with this unit and with a piece of vinyl. What might be nice is a phono output for those with high quality phono preamps. then again, this is digital and not for analog purists.

Features
I love the 3 cue points... Why not go one step further and have 4 banks of cue points, each bank with A B and C? wouldnt be too hard, especially if you have your memory card on hand. Of course, the only player out there that can beat out the Pioneer for cue points is the Technics SL-DZ1200 (it has 4). Havent messed with the loop functions much, so I couldn't tell you. I would love a spinning platter, but this one has a good feel to it. nicer surface than the previous model, and the adjustable jog is great for getting the right resistance. Backspin on a vinyl record with a concave label facing up and you'll know what its like to have too little resistance.

Ease of Use
What more to say? Features are all right read more there, and the big circular thing in the middle is the platter. Plus, in vinyl mode, you can slow down or speed up a record by pushing the side of the platter in either direction, it knows when you're adjusting the speed and when you're scratching. again, YOU have to spin the platter, instead of touch-slowing the stobe face or twisting the spindle like one would do on a real turntable. Adjustable pitch, from +-6, 10(for you numark fans), 16 (a la SL1210M5G), and "Wide" 100. I personally would have liked a +-8 instead of the 6, but whatever. No reason to ever use the Wide pitch, but its there if you want to play with it. All in all, its a learning curve of about 10 minutes

Quality
It feels like a toy sometimes. No metal face, the displays are all plastic, and the "FWD" side of the fwd/rev switch is raised plastic -- only the "REV" has an LED behind it. Metal start/pause and cue buttons are a nice touch. The parts are well-fit though. no rattling or unneccesary edges.

Value
Its the best CD deck i have ever used. The majority of the DJ community would agree. So you pay for the quality. I'd be a happy camper if Pioneer dropped the price a bit though.

Manufacturer Support
I'm giving this section a high rating because..... What's better than the best customer support in the world? Not needing it. Everything is lined up for you. Dont toss the manual yet, theres alot more you can do with this than initially seen, but all in all you wont have a problem.

The Wow Factor
new brighter lights... Sexy. It's designed well, and though it lacks a few features that I personally would like, its the number one choice.
