zZounds Gear Experts Say...
For the ultimate in accuracy and visibility, go for the Peterson StroboStomp HD. It can even power other 9V pedals and offers an optional output buffer.
Overview
Featuring the largest tuning display Peterson Tuners has ever incorporated into one of their pedal tuners, the StroboStomp HD boasts a high-definition, LCD screen that incorporates a variable color LED backlight. The user-selectable colors can be used to personalize the tuner or to increase display viewing quality in different levels of ambient lighting depending on the usage environment. The vibrant screen colors can also be assigned to stock or user presets to significantly reduce menu navigation time and increase on-stage tuning confidence at the gig.
- Increased visibility, no matter the lighting or environment
- User presets to significantly reduce menu navigation time
- 100% silent, true-bypass operation mode
- No annoying pops when engaging the pedal
- Optional buffered output operation mode
- Over 100 exclusive Sweetened Tunings
- Power other 9v pedals on your board with the power throughput jack
For tone purists, the StroboStomp HD provides a 100% silent, true-bypass operation mode to keep precious tone safe, as well as eliminate the often annoying pop experienced when engaging such a feature in other products. It uses a unique series of timed relays incorporated within its circuitry to shunt the signal, draining the cause of the popping sound prior to breaking the connection, and effectively shutting the tuner down for direct play through without affecting tone quality.… read more
The StroboStomp HD also includes a long-time, user-requested buffered output operation mode that can be user engaged. The buffered mode can be used in or out of monitor mode. It is designed to boost instrument drive to overcome potential tone loss in signal chains that incorporate multiple low-impedance guitar pedals or those that utilize long cable runs. The buffered output modes preserve sonic quality all through the instrument range and keep prized core tone intact.
The StroboStomp HD features over 100 exclusive Sweetened Tunings as well as numbered guided tuning presets for a large variety of instruments and playing styles. Sweetened Tunings are exclusive to Peterson tuning products and are designed to help correct inherent tuning issues exhibited by many instruments.
The new "Guided Tunings" mode allows the StroboStomp HD to display numeric string values instead of traditional note names making for sure-fire intuitive and rapid re-tuning to any number of open and alternative tunings. The Guided Tuning mode was instituted for beginners who want to experiment with popular alternate tunings in addition to experienced players who employ multiple tunings in rapid succession. Numerically expressed scales are also included.

Things To Know
Peterson StroboStomp HD Pedal Tuner
Updated February 7, 2025 13:55
by Mason Souza
Hey everyone, it's Mason from zZounds here to tell you a few things to know about the StroboStomp HD from Peterson. This is based on Peterson's original mechanical strobes from back in the '70s. They've digitized that, as you can see now with this big, bright LCD display. There's a digital strobe that moves along with your playing, and it'll display the nearest note -- as you get closer to that note, you'll see the strobe movement start to slow down, and when they stop, you'll know you're precisely in pitch. They'll move up or down, depending on whether you're sharp or flat. This is great for multi-instrumentalists, or those who play in a lot of different tunings during their set, because you have the option to use "sweetened" tunings, which Peterson developed to better represent the different intonations of different instruments and the different nuances of playing in an open tuning versus standard tuning, or drop tuning, etc. You have the option to select any one of those sweetened tunings. There's a lot more to dig into in this pedal -- it has a whole menu option, you can customize the color of the LCD, you can do mute or not mute, you have the option to power other pedals via the 9-volt output right here -- and it's just a great option for professionals and guitar techs as well. This is the Peterson StroboStomp HD -- check it out at zZounds.

I bought the HD Stomp because so many said this is the pedal that does it all. So far I have not done it all, but I have used it and checked my intonation with it on one guitar I thought was pretty perfect and it was slightly off. Almost not worth worrying about, but still I will reset it. I was able to put the battery it came with right in and use it. Ill do the update after I get some sleep and set the settings I want up for it better later on. This pedal is built very nice! One drawback I might be worried about would be the screen getting hit so it will not remain on my pedal board in the studio. I can easily just plug into it on my shelf and tune when needed since all my guitars are mostly Floyds. I'm pretty good at by ear over 39 years by tuning to songs I know and their notes. The screen is nice and bright and easy to see. and I cannot wait to see the rest of what this pedal can do. But I can already say, it's worth it over many other tuners and far better than those cheap clip on tuners. I don't think I ever had one of those things that were accurate. It doesn't come with a power adapter. That would have been nice. But it will be fine on one of my power banks if I choose to use it on my board. It does come with a 9v already. Then it also comes with your choice of a rubber padding to stick on the bottom or a Velcro, that's what I used. Nice sturdy box built nearly as well as the tuner. If taken care of, I think this pedal will last many years. I would definitely pull the trigger…
