"Great little rock-blues amp and cabinet combination!"
I tend to do my research and listen/play carefully and a lot before I decide. As such, having bought this, and having since been playing it, I suspect that I will have this amp for a long time. Its minor down falls give me an excuse to buy a few key pedals. Bottom line, am really pleased with the combination so far.
Sound
Was looking for a relatively low wattage amp to play at home and in smaller venues. Delivers this in spades, particularly at home using the low power input (50% reduction in pre-amp in-put) which allows the tubes to be pushed to a reasonable level in a home setting. Delivers very creamy clean sound across the volume range in the dedicated clean chanel and the dirty channel gives lots of control. Probably doesn't give full on death metal like distortion. I find it great for the jazzy, bluesy and classic rock tones I like to play using either an Ibanez Artcore hollowbody or PRS Custom 22 guitars. One of the best build qualities I have come across. First rate amp. Miss a dedicated tremelo, though the reverb is excellent.
Features
Foot switch is a two switch (unlabelled) affair that appears to be of good quality. Switch 1 toggles the reverb on and off and switch 2 is clean vs dirty (dirty needs to be switch on at the head for this to work) and all works well.
Ease of Use
I found it pretty easy to get the main sounds I was after from the amp. This was aided by the manual… read more which includes suggested settings to get various tones. These worked well as a starting point from which to play and get 'my tone'. Otherwise the controls are entirely self explanatory.
Quality
While I haven't owned the amp for very long (about a month) the build quality was one of the attractions. All individually numbered and I can't find any manufacturer errors or blemishes. All seems to be very robust. The tubes, importantly, are well protected and have a little gismo to ensure they stay in place during transport. The included covers are well made and give the unit reasonable protection for transport. Reading the manual and the way it is set out gave me a lot of confidence that this amp is designed to last.
Value
Lots of people tend to give this a 10 after owning the product for ten minutes (self validation of the product mostly). I think that the product is very well made and certain makes me smile as I play through it given some of the relatively crappy sounds coming out of products at the same price point (IMHO). I rate is slightly lower given lack of tremelo feature and that the foot pedal isn't labelled with what it does (seems pretty easy to me). Otherwise, unless I start playing in bigger venues, I doubt I will need another amp and feel like it will last a very long time. Nothing is perfect though.
Manufacturer Support
Have not had to deal with the company so can't comment.
The Wow Factor
Played lots of amps including a lot more expensive ones and boutique amps. While there was a boutique combo I would have loved, in the price range I could afford it was a slam dunk in regards to sound and quality. Best looking amp (IMHO) by far!
