Korg SP170 88-Key Digital Piano

No longer available at zZounds
The Korg SP-170 is Korg's entry point for pure digital piano bliss, with a bit of everything to satisfy a beginning or advanced player.

Leave the acoustic pianos at the store for the purists. Korg's SP-170 takes all the traditional appointments of an acoustic piano and modernizes them. The SP-170 is a piano through and through. Rather than stuff this instrument to the gills with voices that you'll never use or hear outside of a song demo, Korg has wisely focused all of its technology on just 10 easily selectable sounds. By sticking to the basics, Korg has succeeded in creating one of the most authentic-sounding digital pianos you can find.

Graded, Weighted Keys for a Natural Feel

The SP-170 features the same feel and response you get out of an acoustic piano, achieved by the Natural Weighted Hammer Action (NH) keyboard. This graded keyboard recreates the increased resistance you get from playing lower notes on a piano, and lighter resistance from playing higher notes. This action also translates to the velocity response: as you play with more force, you'll hear stronger stereo piano samples played back by the SP-170's stereo sound system. Quiet passages or loud, all the expressiveness in your playing will translate through the Korg SP-170.

Perfect for Students and Families

With dual headphone outputs, a student and teacher can work side-by-side without disturbing others, even in a classroom full of SP-170s. By sticking to the basics, such as the two sampled concert grand piano sounds, organs, and strings, you can focus just on your playing without paging through menus just to find a sound. Easily read more add built-in reverb or chorus to simulate the feel of playing live. And when it's time to perform live, The Korg SP-170's pristine piano sound is coupled with an equally massive sound system. A stereo amp feeds two on-board speakers with a reflex cabinet for room-filling sound. And the SP-170's lightweight body is easy to transport.

This board is a professional quality board at a toy keyboard (i.e. Casio) price. I plan to gig and record with this board for a long time.
Sound
All the sounds are great. Soiunds are very natural, you can't tell they are digitally reproduced.
Features
A pedal and power supply were included. All the features such as reverb, chorus, and piano tuner are great features that are usually found on more expensive keyboards. Features are easy to use and since they are controled by using the note keys, the features aren't crowded together or buried by endless menus or cryptic buttons.
Ease of Use
Very easy to use. i was very impressed that the keyboard sounded great right out of the box. It required no tweaking!
Quality
It is very solidly built and the external ports and jacks are high quality!
Value
I have been playing keys for 23 years. All I need is a good piano sound. I dont use synthesizers and this board is definitely not a synthesizer. It has two excellent pianios, a great Hammond style organ, great pipe organ, two great electric pianois. clav, strings and vibraphone. To get all these features I expected I would need to drop $1000. This board is a steal at half the price.
Manufacturer Support
The manual is so well written I have not needed customer suppoirt. The best support is a well done manual and troubleshooting guide
The Wow Factor
It has tone and touch you will fall in love with in a very sleak uncluttered design. I woukd take this board over a Triton any day.
