Overview
If you want the look of a vintage Gibson solidbody but can't afford the 5 or 6-figure price tag associated with those legendary instruments, the Custom Authentic program is for you. An overbuffed finish and aged hardware create a guitar with a well-worn look that perfectly compliments the historically accurate neck profile and tone found on Custom Shop Reissues.
The Gibson Les Paul Custom was originally intended to be called the Les Paul Deluxe when it was introduced in 1954. This elegantly enhanced, more expensive version of the Les Paul Model was one of Gibson's responses to the idea that there was room to grow in its new solidbody line on both sides of the original Les Paul's price point.
In 1957, "Patent Applied For" humbuckers became standard issue on both the Les Paul Models and the Les Paul Custom. To go along with its already upscale appointments, the Les Paul Custom was made available with two or three of these quiet, powerful new pickups.
This Custom Authentic version is built with an all-Mahogany body and a '59 round neck profile and aged hardware.
No matter where a Gibson Les Paul is seen - in the hands of a star performer, silhouetted in a guitar dealer's ad, or cast in brass and incorporated into the architecture of a restaurant - it is universally recognized as the symbol of rock and roll music.
