Overview
Bringing the power of a 7-string guitar to the popular ESP EC series, the EC-407 offers a full complement of heavy metal tones to satisfy rhythm chuggers and solo shredders alike. The use of mahogany for the body gives an bold sustain to the guitar, while the active EMG Standard Humbuckers deliver that sharp tone to cut through any mix. The thin U contoured neck and single cutaway design allow full access to all seven strings at every point of the fretboard -- essential for the more aggressive shredders out there. Sound
The EMGs sound great w/the mahogany. Very easy to get teh br00t4Lz outta this thing. It would probably sound good clean too, if I cared about that sorta thing ; )
Features
The satin finish not only looks cool, but makes the neck faster.I also love the fact that, even though it's an "LP" style guitar, it's got a 25.5" scale length; much better for that low B-string.
Ease of Use
Plug it in and ROCK! The neck feels pretty much identical to my Viper-417 (which is to say KILLER!).
Quality
The quality is actually quite high for the price; the only reason for a slightly lower mark here is that the tuners SUCK! They are not Grovers, as the text says, they're ESP tuners with the crappiest gearing ever. The body binding was executed very nicely. Action was great out of the box -- No dead spots, no rough fret edges, nice clean fingerboard. Just had to switch to my brand/guage of strings and I was good to go!
