Classic Les Paul Looks and Humbucker Sound
The Epiphone Les Paul Special II is a great way to get the Les Paul sound for less. The Special II has got all the vital elements of the Les Paul guitar, including a pair of humbuckers (in this case, the open-coil 700T/650R set,) a mahogany neck, and the classically beautiful Les Paul body type. The Les Paul Special II has also got a Tune-O-Matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece, like other Les Pauls, so you get the stability of tone and tuning that you would expect from a more expensive model. This guitar's playability makes it a great choice for either a backup guitar or a beginner's first axe. Carrying on in the tradition set Gibson over 50 years ago, the Epiphone Les Paul Special II is a fine guitar. The Les Paul for Less
The Gibson Les Paul is, quite simply, one of the most famous guitars ever associated with rock music. The list of players is staggering: Jimmy Page, Frank Zappa, Slash, Paul McCartney, Pete Townshend, Zakk Wylde, and countless others. Even if all you… read more know about your musical future is that you wanna rock, the Les Paul is a fantastic way to do it. Of course, Gibson's guitars are beyond the price range of a great many musicians, and so their subsidiary Epiphone builds stripped-down versions of many Gibson classics. That's not to say that these are cheap knockoffs, though: Epiphone, having been part of the Gibson family since the '50s, has access to the original schematics of guitars like the Les Paul, and are well-acquainted with what makes them so excellent.Get an overview of the Les Paul Special II in this video from Epiphone:

"Great guitar for the money"

I was hesitant to purchase a Les Paul that sold for under $200, but boy am I glad that I did. With the exception of needing a string upgrade (I put Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinkys on mine) and giving the tuners some time to break in, this is a fantastic guitar for the money. I have played primarily a Strat and an acoustic guitar for the last 25+ years, but decided to pick up an inexpensive Les Paul to spur my interests in playing guitar again (a Les Paul copy was the first guitar I ever owned as a kid). Since picking up this Epiphone Les Paul Special II, I have played every day since I received it.
The wine red finish on it looks great with the black hardware, and the pickups are quite capable for an entry level guitar. Although I don't play out anymore, I would think that this guitar would work just fine for a gig as well as for practice and noodling around. If you want an actual Gibson Les Paul, keep saving your money, but if you want something with the Les Paul feel and sustain, and a very nice looking axe to boot, grab this Epiphone Les Paul and have fun with your new toy!
