The Epiphone Inspired by Gibson J-200 is a stunning homage to the King of the Flat-Tops - the world-famous Gibson SJ-200. Since its introduction in 1937 it has been the choice of "singing cowboys" like Tex Ritter and Gene Autry, as well as folk, rock and country royalty, including Emmylou Harris, Elvis, Jimmy Page, Bob Dylan, George Harrison, The Edge, and many more.

Featuring a Super Jumbo non-cutaway solid figured maple body, solid Sitka spruce top, and two-piece maple neck with a mahogany center strip, the Epiphone J-200 is built with all solid woods for outstanding tone. The visual elements have always been a big part of the J-200's appeal, and the Epiphone J-200 includes a Moustache bridge with curved block inlays, Crown headstock inlay and Graduated Crown mother of pearl fingerboard inlays, and a J-200 style pickguard with two-color graphics. Epiphone J-200 Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Guitar
Updated April 3, 2025 08:25 by Nick Wedyke
Hey, it's Nick from zZounds with some things to know about the Epiphone J-200 Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Guitar.

This guitar is, of course, inspired by the classic Gibson "King of the Flattops" SJ-200 and features many of the same iconic appointments. You’ve got the classic mustache bridge, mother-of-pearl inlays, and a laurel fingerboard with those beautiful graduated crown inlays—also in mother-of-pearl. The grain on this Sitka spruce top is gorgeous, and it delivers tons of bright projection. Even with its powerful low-end and bassy character, this guitar retains clarity, thanks in part to its sheer size.

The figured maple back and sides feature stunning grain work and are bound beautifully, making this guitar as visually striking as it is sonically impressive. It also comes equipped with a Fishman Sonitone preamp and an under-saddle pickup, so you can plug it straight into a front-of-house system and get that huge jumbo acoustic tone. Whether you're recording, playing live, or even just miking it up in the studio, this guitar absolutely sings. The projection is unbelievable, making it a fantastic choice for both stage and studio use.

This is the Epiphone J-200—check it out at zZounds. Thanks!

I really dig this guitar. Been playing for many years, mostly dreadnaughts on and offstage. Martins, Yamahas, Epiphones, Taks, etc. Never played a jumbo but I've wanted one for a while - especially the Gibson SJ-200. That particular guitar sells for $6,199 - way out of my budget. This one comes in at just below $1k - Bingo. I half expected to find some faults with this when I received it yesterday and began to play. It was love at first sound. Mids, Highs and lows all what I expected from having listened ton hours of SJ-200 and J-200 demos. I especially like holding it close while playing and feeling the deep vibes of the maple back. This is the unique playing experience these jumbos offer - among others. Playing feels different than what my Yamaha dread offers and takes a bit getting used to but offers what I need when flatpicking. Neck is easy to bar and action and intonation were accurate. No need for me to have this set up. I only gave the ease of use 4 stars because of the 9v battery pack that velcros to this inside of the guitar for the electronics. when it comes lose, it dangles behind the sound hole. There's a slight hassle of having to reach in and pull it past the strings to change the 9v battery. Something I hadn't considered when buying but overall, compared to the rest of the quality of the instrument is not a deal breaker. If you expect a close-second "Jumbo" sound and feel of a Gibson because this is constructed similarly with solid spruce and maple - you probably read more won't be disappointed. I also had an Epiphone EJ-200, the jumbo cousin to this with laminate woods and it doesn't even come close to the sound on this one. I was also very happy with the satin finish on this. Didn't think I would be, but I am. Overall it is an excellent investment. Also - Shipping was good with zZounds. I've been buying with these guys for years.
