Dave Navarro was one of the more innovative guitarists to emerge from the alternative rock scene in the late '80s and early '90s. From his work with Jane's Addiction and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, to appearances with Nine Inch Nails and Alanis Morrissette, Navarro is well-known for his meticulously crafted tone. The Epiphone Dave Navarro Signature acoustic-electric combines excellent construction with an advanced electronic system for a guitar as distinctive as its namesake.

Quality All-Solid-Wood Construction

The Epiphone Dave Navarro Signature employs a solid mahogany body with solid spruce top for a bold sound with excellent balance and projection. The neck is connected with a resonant dove-tail neck joint and topped with a comfortable ebony fretboard. Adding to the playability is a deep cutaway, which allows full extension to the furthest reaches of the guitar's range.

Shadow NanoFlex Pickup and eSonic Preamp

To capture the full texture of the Dave Navarro Signature acoustic is an eSonic preamp system which makes this guitar an excellent choice for live performance. The Shadow NanoFlex under-saddle pickup uses seven layers of sensor material to capture the full tone of the instrument from the chime of the strings to the body of the wood. The system includes a built-in tuner, on-board master volume, bass and treble controls, a feedback-combating phase switch, as well as a dynamic slider for added control over the EQ shape. The system is virtually noiseless and read more optimized to eliminate feedback through any sound system.

Distinct Look for a Distinct Guitarist

For all its build quality and tonal excellence, the Dave Navarro signature would fail to be a guitar worthy of Dave Navarro without a bold visual style to complement its sound. Luckily, Epiphone has delivered on this front as well. The high-gloss ebony finish is highlighted by detailed white binding and a striking abalone rosette. The inlays along the neck are made with an entrancing double star design which is almost as exotic as the haunting scene printed on the pickguard. Alluding to Dave's days as the guitarist for Jane's Addiction, the single word "Jane" hauntingly resides on the truss-rod cover at the top of this beautiful instrument.

Epiphone Dave Navarro Signature Acoustic

Epiphone is famous for making great-sounding and affordable solid-wood acoustic guitars, and Dave's Navarro's signature model is no exception.

A Versatile Guitar for a Versatile Guitarist

With his six-string skills best described as a merger between heavy metal, psychedelia, and modern rock, Dave Navarro became one of alternative rock's first true guitar heroes. From his ground-breaking work with "Jane's Addiction" and "Red Hot Chili Peppers" to his guest appearances on landmark recordings such as Nine Inch Nails' "Further Down the Spiral" and Alanis Morissette's "Jagged Little Pill," Dave Navarro was one of the first rock guitarists not to confine his playing to just one style. Now, Dave teams up with Epiphone to create a versatile acoustic/electric guitar with exceptional stage sound, playability and solid-wood tone combined with a bold visual statement that is as unique as the man himself.

It Starts with Solid Wood

It starts with a solid Sitka Spruce top, hand-scalloped bracing, Mahogany kerfing and a solid Mahogany back. Hand-fitted to the elegant Venetian cut-away body using a traditional dove-tail neck joint and hide glue is a Mahogany neck with a 25.5" scale length solid Ebony fingerboard. The result is a dreadnought guitar with naturally deep, rich bass, clear mid-tones and punchy highs capable of cutting through -- even uplugged.

Made to Perform

But if you're looking for a guitar that comes alive with real acoustic tone when plugged in, the Dave Navarro is just the one for you. Epiphone's eSonic(TM) preamp system with the revolutionary NanoFlex(TM) under-saddle pickup gives you the control and sound quality you need when performing live. Designed in cooperation with and made by Shadow(TM) of Germany, the eSonic is a small, lightweight preamp powered by two long-lasting Lithium batteries. It features a fast and extremely accurate built-in chromatic tuner that allows you to "mute" the output of the guitar while tuning or while "unplugging" to avoid any loud "pop." Other controls include Master Volume, Treble and Bass EQ, a Dynamics slider that acts as an EQ frequency shifter and a "phase" switch to help eliminate feedback.

Shadow NanoFlex Under-Saddle Pickup

Under saddle is Shadow's Nanoflex pickup. Not a piezo, the NanoFlex design utilizes 7 highly-sensitive and ultra-responsive layers of sensor material to not only sense the vibrations of the strings but the vibrations of the guitar body as well. This produces results equivalent to a condenser-microphone mixed with an under-saddle pickup. The Nanoflex is the first pickup to incorporate active amplification directly at the pickup. As a result, the signal does not pass through even a single millimeter of the wire and therefore, the signal quality is uncompromised. Combined with its 100% shielding, the Nanoflex is absolutely and completely noise free.

Stunning Looks and Professional Features

Finished in a high-gloss Ebony color, the body is multi-bound on the top and on the back with contrasting white binding as is the fingerboard and headstock. The sound hole features an inlaid rosette combining both binding and Abalone. As a personalized touch, the multi-layer truss rod cover features "Jane" in white while the very thin clear pickguard features a haunting line drawing. The artwork is printed on the underside of the pickguard to preserve it for years and years to come. Other professional features on the Navarro acoustic/electric include 16:1 ratio Grover(TM) machine heads for stable and accurate tuning, nickel hardware, a solid Rosewood bridge with bone saddle and a slightly wider nut width of 1.725" for easy, precise fingering.

Limited Lifetime Warranty

As with all Epiphone instruments, the Dave Navarro comes with a Limited Lifetime warranty and Shadow's 5-year warranty (electronics) and is backed by world famous 24/7/365 day Gibson Customer Service.

I will continue to buy guitars a few times a year because that's what I do and I have no doubts that I will continue to be satisfied with this purchase for a long time to come.

Sound
I received this guitar today from zZounds. I pulled it out of the packing, tuned it up and was completely amazed at the sound. This guitar is obviously not a Martin, a Taylor or even a Gibson - hell, it was made in China......but I would consider it a quality guitar in and of itself. But when you compare the rich, deep tones that come out of this guitar with the price I paid, I can tell you that it is simply a fantastic sounding guitar. I bought a "cosmetically damaged" one for $430 (Epiphone list price of $999 and regularly priced at zZounds at $599)and I put it on my work bench with my work lights over it and could not find one thing wrong with it. Nothing. So I'm not sure what the inspectors found that they would sell it at a reduced price but I am very happy I took that chance! I have a lot of guitars, some very nice ones and some great "value" guitars and several beaters and I can honestly say that this one sounds as good as some of mine that cost several thousand dollars. I am very pleased with the sound!

Features
The e-sonic electronics are quite amazing. There is none of that "tinny" sound that sometimes comes out of a piezo type pick up. The electric sound is very well-rounded across the entire read more spectrum when played through my Beringer Acoustic Amp. The jack is very solid and even the chromatic tuner is spot on according to my Snark and my Boss tuner. I am very happy with the sound of this guitar!!

Ease of Use
This guitar has a wider nut that most. I primarily bought this guitar because of the wider nut. Common wisdom says that finger-pickers like it wider so they can pick better but I can tell you that us folks with big ole hands like it because we can play our chords much better with enough room for our big fingers! The adjustable bridge is intuative and easy to use.

Quality
This guitar is beautiful. The ebony finish is glossy and I can't find a flaw in it. The pentagram fretboard inlays are beautiful and what I would consider to be intricate. I studied them very closely and couldn't find any flaws at all. It's a beautiful guitar!

Value
I got a great deal on a guitar that I feel is worth much more than I paid for it so I'll say that I got a great value!

Manufacturer Support
I hope I never have to find out how the support is!

The Wow Factor
This is a very good looking guitar. It has all the accessories I would ever ask for on a guitar. Honestly, it was the ebony gloss finish and the fretboard inlays that hooked me into checking it out in the first place.
