Epiphone's Description
Epiphone Thunderbird IV Bass Guitar
The Thunderbird Bass, first issued from the legendary Kalamazoo factory in 1963, was for a time the only bass available from Gibson or Epiphone. But really, what else could you need? The Thunderbirds unique reversed zig-zag body design and equally distinct headstock was the brainchild of legendary automotive designer and visionary Ray Dietrich who was enlisted by the Kalamazoo factory to bolster the electric guitar line and help solidify the factorys eminent rank among solidbody electric guitar manufacturers. The Thunderbird bass was quickly embraced by rock and rollers in the States, the UK, and Europe and today, is still the ultimate rock and roll low-end machine. Building upon the long-term success of the classic Thunderbird, Epiphone introduces the Thunderbird IV.Like all of Epiphone's instruments, the Thunderbird-IV comes with their Limited Lifetime Warranty and Gibson 24/7/365 customer service.

What can I say, I bought two of these, a coffee colored sunburst made in China and an arctic white made in Indonesia. I also own a Gibson t-bird so to compare these instruments has been easy. I gig in an AC-DC tribute band 3 to 4 times a month so I've been able to battle test everybody and here is my report: The Chinese made bolt neck is a monster, the tone is deep and rich and yes it does not to say cut through the mix but have a bold presence within said mix. It plays nicely with other instrument and drum tones yet it is very present within. It reminds me of a fender, which I also play. It is as if Fender made a T-bird model. It is a heavy instrument that works for ANY style of music. The arctic or alpine white model is a neck through and resembles the Gibson to a tee. The looks, the feel, the tone everything is amazingly close to the original. The bolt on neck bass in my opinion has a darker heavier sound and feels like a custom made T-bird plus. I've always played Fenders or Gibsons and have never had much interest in the economy models but this blows that out of the water, for the money you spend on this you get a lot more than you bargained for. In my opinion, top notch. I play thru a Line 6 ld 300 pro bass combo for gigs and all the basses sing. I also play thru a Mesa 400B head and an Ampeg 8x10 cab but I got tired of moving that fridge around even though yet again the basses sound great out of that set up. The point of all this is to say is that you get a lot for your…
