After over 40 years of DJing I am too old and sickly to carry 100 pound subs and lift 50 pound tops. I wanted to do some occasional gigs but I had to face my physical limitations. I thought about purchasing the EV Evolve 50 but the price and SPL numbers seemed off. I opted for 2 EV ELX12sp subs from zZounds and was looking at 8 or 10 inch tops to complete my new lightweight , but loud system. Decided on the EV ELX 10s until I came across the Alto TS408. The price/SPL and weight was too good to be true, so I bought just 1 from zZounds to test out. Paired with the EV 12 inch sub this set-up kicked some serious butt. It was loud, clear and slamming. I soon ordered a second , and I now have a small quite loud system that can easily accommodate a 150 person wedding no problem. One thing I dislike about the Alto is how high you must turn the gain on the speaker in order to get decent volume. (Practically all the way). I use a mixer so it works out fine as far as headroom but I found this pretty weird at first. They also scratch easily, so a bag or cover is advised. The built in crossover for 12,15, or 18 inch subs is a Godsend. Top that off with Bluetooth and the Alto App and it adds up to a lot of value for $249.00 bucks. If you are an aspiring DJ the Alto TS 408 series 8, 10, 12, or 15. should be on your list of possible speakers. They lack a DSP screen but for the price what do you expect? They are not EV, QSC, or RCF quality, but there is a lot here to like. They are loud , light, read more clear, look sweet , and will definitely do the job for you.
