zZounds Gear Experts Say...
2 dual stereo channels, mic channel, Penny & Giles VCA Crossfader
Overview
From inputs to outputs, Allen & Heath created Xone:02 to be the world's greatest battle / scratch mixer. The crossfader is a deluxe Penny & Giles VCA design, reversible, they all have contour controls and they can all be easily replaced by removing the steel faceplate. They've kept the fader area clear for action and they've kept controls like pan and EQ out of the way on low profile sliders. Even the transform switches can be rotated to work the way you like them. Don't go into battle with anything less.
Features
2 Dual Stereo Channels - Channels have RIAA [RCA] inputs, switchable to line, plus stereo line level inputs [RCA], each with gain control. Powerful 3 band 'music' EQ on sliders. High quality 45mm faders. Input reverse switch for battle mixing. Pre fade monitoring on 12 segment 3 colour peak reading bar meters
Mic Channel - 2 XLR inputs with separate gain controls, on switch and 3 band EQ with HPF. Routes direct to mix outputs. FX insert on button
Stereo Mix Outputs - Balanced mix outputs on XLR with multi-point VCA level master control. The mix output level can be displayed on the 12 segment 3 colour peak reading bar meters
Booth Output - RCA outputs with level control for booth / link out to additional "daisy-chain" mixers
FX Loop - Channels have an effect loop on switch with silent FET switching. Effect insert points are separate [TRS] inputs and outputs
3 Band EQ - Powerful 3 band 12dB/oct EQ with

"Excellent sound, High Quality!"
This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
Highly recommended: From a DJ with 10 years of club experience.
Pros:
Excellent sound
Good Quality
Good value
Cons:
Would have liked to see a sampler or Effects built in for this price.
Would have liked to see Split cue in headphone section.
Esthetically a bit boring.
Sound
The sound out this mixer is incredibly clear and without distortion. The bass is rich and smooth unlike other lower end mixers. The mids and highs are very crisp. The equalizers are excellent and precise. The sound alone is worth the money paid for this mixer.
Features
The number of features are perfect - not excessive and not too bare boned either. I love the crossfader curve adjustments. The equalizers are smooth and are great for tweaking with the bass/mids/treble. I would have preferred to have a split headphone cue, but the standard stereo cueing is more than adequate. The Penny Giles crossfader is smooth as silk and does not bleed at all. It has plenty of LINE and PHONO inputs and XLR and RCA master outputs.
Ease of Use
The mixer is very simple in design, perhaps a little too simple. Yet I prefer a simple mixer than one with tons of cheap looking buttons and flashing lights. This mixer is very clean looking and intuitive to use. The crossfader curves take a little adjustment and experimenting to figure out what suits what mixing style best.
Quality
This… read more thing is built like a tank. As soon as you pick it up, it's like a small black box - indestructible. All the buttons have a nice rubbery feel to it and do not have the cheap plasticy feel to them. The faceplate and construction design is very professional and up to par with other high end mixers. The design/paint looks a bit boring, but I rather have a mixer that performs well rather than one that looks good.
Value
I will say that this mixer is worth every penny so in that regard it's a great value. This is a high end mixer, and it's up their with Rane, Urei and others. Although for this price you can get many other mixers with more bells and whistles, but for this price and sound quality and the quality is hard to beat.
Manufacturer Support
I have not needed to contact Allen & Heath so far. I have had this mixer and done a few parties with it, and so far it's performed without any problems. The warranty is for 1 year, but I recommend extended warranty. Extended warranty from the retail store is very reasonably priced and for a mixer of this price, it's additional peace of mind.
The Wow Factor
Esthetically a bit blah. This won't win a supermodel competition, but sure will knock the socks off many mixers in this price range. I would buy one again if it got stolen/lost.
