The Smiths

The Smiths are one of the most popular post punk or new wave English modern rock bands of all time. Formed in 1982 in Manchester, England, the band has countless fans that still consider them to be a favorite. They are often compared to The Cure in popularity, and are undoubtedly one of Britain's most well known bands. Steven Patrick Morrissey, often only known as Morrissey, formed the band with friend and guitar player Johnny Marr. Their debut self-titled album was released in 1984. The Smith's second album, Meat is Murder, was a huge success. It was considered to be quite a political album but also got a great reception. The next album released, The Queen is Dead, came out in 1985. The band was extremely influential on musicians for decades to come, and has a huge fan base. Morrissey is considered a vocal and songwriting legend by many, and has released several solo albums after the Smiths broke up in 1987, much to their fans' dismay.
