Like the famous Gibson 60 D Classic Dobro, the more affordable Hound Dog 60 S features a round neck with 12 frets clear of the body for slide-style playing as well as two sound holes to enhance clarity and projection. The body is made of laminated, figured Maple veneer with the original style spider bridge and 10 1/2 in. resonator.

Gibson's new Hound Dog Dobro commemorates the beginning of the modern Dobro era while it fills a growing demand for a more affordable American-made resonator guitar. Gibson's Original Acoustic Instruments division offers the Hound Dog in Squareneck and Roundneck versions.

"The Hound Dog name holds an important place in Dobro history as the brand that introduced the Original Musical Instrument company, the forerunner of our OAI division," said Henry Juszkiewicz, chairman and CEO of Gibson Guitar Corp. "This new Hound Dog is equally important because it brings a genuine Made-in-USA Dobro within the reach of many more musicians."

The economical Hound Dog is the perfect starter Dobro, with its laminated maple body and original 10ü in. spider-bridge resonator. Its open sound and well-constructed design enhances and projects the natural tonal balance. Nickel-plated hardware and a rich, hand-rubbed brown finish give it a stylish vintage look. The Squareneck Hound Dog, part of the 60 series, has 12 frets clear of the body and a high nut, making it ideal for slide-style playing, while the Roundneck version read more has a radiused fingerboard. Both come equipped with Fishman resonator pickups for wider dynamic range.

The Original Musical Instruments company was formed in 1967 by members of the Dopyera family, who had invented the Dobro in 1928. OMI made guitars under the Hound Dog brand until 1970, when the family reacquired the Dobro name. Gibson acquired OMI in 1993 and moved production to Nashville in 1998, combining Dobro, mandolin and banjo production into a new Original Acoustic Instruments division.

The Gibson Hound Dog Dobro is made at The Gibson Bluegrass Showcase in the Opry Mills retail complex, located near the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville. The 30,000-square-foot facility houses a live performance venue, a retail store with instruments and Gibson wear, a restaurant and the headquarters of Gibson's Original Acoustic Instruments division, where visitors can watch skilled craftsmen at work hand-making Gibson mandolins, banjos and Dobro resonator guitars.
